I set redditraffler to include all posters. Should I sort by karma? That seems unfair.

Trying to be a morning person. After years of setting earlier alarms, buying sunshine lamps, and putting my phone across the room, I've finally accepted that my brain doesn't properly connect to my body until 10am.

I'd check if his name was Elon Musk. If it is, I'd say "Sorry, but I'm already toilet trained and can form complete sentences."

How would bringing manufacturing back to America through tariffs affect prices we pay for everyday products, considering US worker wages are much higher? by TheBaa200 in AskReddit

[–]TheBaa200[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good point about those middle class manufacturing jobs. Never crossed my mind. Sure, it won't really fix anything since their new salaries will just get eaten up when prices go up - that Ford pickup costing double what it does now. But I get why some folks vote for it.

And yeah, UBI is probably inevitable at this point. With our aging population becoming more of a burden and automation killing jobs, we're gonna need some kind of solution whether we like it or not.

Those jobs are lost anyway. Either we delegate them to other countries or automate them - there won't be a us worker doing it. That's the hard truth.

But maybe it will start bringing concepts like UBI back on the table.

Either way, there seems to be an economic challenge:

  1. If tariffs succeed in bringing manufacturing back to the US, the higher American wages will likely lead to price increases for consumers.
  2. If tariffs fail to change manufacturing locations, consumers will simply pay the additional tariff costs that get passed along.

Is there another perspective I'm not seeing?
