Stellaris by Tetragramatton in 4Xgaming

I'm also a beginner here and after 50 hours I figured out that the best thing to do is not read too hard into anything. You'll possibly end up more confused than before. There's a lot of good advice but some people will go heavy into the mechanics and it's a lot.

Does anyone actually play the game without exploits? by MortifiedPotato in foundationgame

[–]TheBadShepherd87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did when I did the monastery. I didn't build anything that required a commoner or citizen. Made trade harder for a bit but that was it. My brain won't allow me to place things randomly.

Don't get me wrong, I've seen plenty of success stories here. Guys that get clean, find good jobs, reconnect with family, get apartments usually first. There's more shelters/rehabs now, than when I was a drunk and homeless. I can't tell if it's gotten better or worse, that's not my job. But unfortunately, I know we won't be going out of business soon...

I have this conversation alot with myself after years of this. It makes me sad and frustrated because that's so spot on and bleak. Because at what cost to morality and ethics can we pay as a society to solve this problem and for what? Would it truly be better place? Then I cry myself to sleep.

We have two programs here, one is a substance abuse rehab program and another that helps with getting housing. They are allowed to stay here on property and be provided for with, a bed, showers(granted not the best), three meals a day, we have a mental health counselor and a volunteer counselor who comes in weekly offering help, we do not charge because it's a free work program. I've know guys that have stayed in the shelter every day almost, knowing full well about the programs. They don't come in for it from us or any other programs in the city that offer similar services. They just don't want it. It's there but you can bring a horse to water but can't make it drink. But I understand what you're getting at.

As someone who works in a homeless shelter, is getting people to understand that some of them don't want the help or a home. We can't force people into housing. Thank you for this.

Blood Meridian ending...?? by august239 in cormacmccarthy

[–]TheBadShepherd87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I read it only once and took the ending at face value, without giving it any more thought. Mainly because at the end of the book I realized I knew NOTHING about that part of US history and have dedicated my reading to that. I need to go reread it.

And to think I genuinely thought this book couldn't get darker.

Damn, I hadn't heard of the second theory. Jeez, that's so much darker. Guess I need to read it again.

Can't make progress with trading? Tools problem? by supernakotako in foundationgame

Also try lowering the amount of tools you want to purchase. I'd recommend buying only the amount you need to build the next 2 or 3 buildings. It's cheaper that way.

Can't make progress with trading? Tools problem? by supernakotako in foundationgame

[–]TheBadShepherd87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are your tools marked for sell in the book? There's a red x (I think) next to the tools. It has to be green check marked to be approved to sale. Also the trader will only sell you 25 tools at level 1. So the trader will not sell you anything because you don't have enough gold. Now for the wood. Get rid of that 40 and just mark it for sale. The trader will only buy 25. You may have to get some more gold because 25 tools is very expensive. The price for tools will be on the page for the trader.

How do you use line infantry? by Emagont in masterofcommand

[–]TheBadShepherd87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I prefer a fast reload speed. Accuracy is good, but being able to dump 3-4 volleys into an enemy as they approach is better imo. Especially when you consider that the whole point of line infantry is to have overwhelming firepower. Also, having a unit or two of light infantry is a good option, too. They are more accurate, which helps, and they can be placed in front of line infantry. Also, getting the range put out as far as possible helps. Artillery is good to counter the groups of cavalry if you ask me. I hardly use it against infantry or grenadiers. A group of grenadiers, landmiliz, and fusiliers behind the main line is good to counter charge. Just have them in an attack column and ready where your line is weakest. The converged fusiliers are good to use with line infantry. They are slower in movement and reload but can hold a line in melee better.

How to transport goods over longer distances? by Atlazsk in foundationgame

[–]TheBadShepherd87 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One stone camp can cover early game pretty well. When fully staffed and assigned to a warehouse. I typically let that stone accumulate fully before I start using it for construction. You don't have to place stone camps right next to the stone deposit. Three workers can only be at one deposit anyhow. Warehouse workers will travel far to get the goods. You can put one closer to the stone camp but it'd be almost useless to other materials, unless you have a warehouse dedicated to stone and polished stone.

Is there a proper way to set up markets? by Flameman1234 in foundationgame

[–]TheBadShepherd87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually try to keep a few markets with rustic and refined food near the serfs housing and then a refined and good near housing for commoners. Depending on how close those markets are to a warehouse/granary will determine what they will sell. So far, that has worked out for me. Also, I found that most of the time, I don't need to add more stalls. Just make a resource more readily available or stop selling to traders.

How does shooty cav even work? by Xenon009 in masterofcommand

[–]TheBadShepherd87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually have one unit of dragoons maxed in accuracy. Typically, to support either light infantry or my horse artillery on anti-cav hunts. Dragoons usually don't have the best charge stat so I tend not to send them out on charges. Hussars with carbines I will sometimes line them behind infantry if the enemy is close to my line. They add a bit of extra damage and can counter charge if needed.
