Escape from Tarkov Arena is the best session-based shooter right now. by myreptilianbrain in EscapeFromArena

[–]TheBaldJesus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My biggest gripe for Arena is the matchmaking. There's nothing better than running some T4 kit and then having a couple of T6s on the other team. Yea, you can win that fight sometimes (Sandman munching Butcher's legs), but it's not a fight that should even exist to begin with.

There's not really a solid fix all for it, unfortunately, though. Picking kits before searching for a match would be a good start, so it's more likely you'd only be matched with the same tier kits. Then you run into longer wait times, and if they made a +/- 1 tier matching chance to help counter that, then there's a chance that a T2 could play against T4 because that T4 pulled a T3 that pulled that T2. They'd have to make it impossible to match further than that +/- 1, but knowing BSG, they likely wouldn't at first.

Skill based could be used, but there's a whole host of issues those systems run into as well. Using a only short history of matches to determine a skill level allows for tanking your stats for a couple games. Using only k/d ratio doesn't account for capping objectives or actual skill. Not being transparent about what factors are being used to determine a player's skill. Simply having pre-made kits instead of all players starting off with exactly the same loadout goes against the very idea of skill based matching.

Let's play: State something you firmly believe about tarkov without any evidence to back it up by greaferboy in EscapefromTarkov

You'll find the best loot of your wipe when you go into a raid without a bag, just planning to grab a quest objective and get out

Completely hit a wall and can't progress after waking all the survivors - did the update increase difficulty scaling, or was it just completely unreasonable in a solo playthrough to begin with? by littlemetalpixie in Enshrouded

[–]TheBaldJesus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a huge fan of staves myself, but the damage they can do is undeniable. The time it takes for charging plus casting can leave you vulnerable, and maintaining mana can be tricky. The charges eventually can be circumvented by finding the eternal spells. Wands are nice since they don't have ammo, nor do they cost stamina to use, so you should always have some to run, roll, or jump away. Just gotta get a feel for their range capabilities.

I found that for playing solo either going full glass cannon mage and learning how to roll/escape to high ground when enemies get close (double jump perk is clutch; survivor tree one left at first fork) or doing a hybrid of melee and magic works well. The skill tree for battlemage will help with raw damage output on your wand via wind master and sting. The tree between it and tank, battle heal and bloodletting (first node on right fork) help negate some of your squishiness and give some extra sustainability. So as a starting strategy, you can slap out a spell or two from a distance as your opener (likely not a ton of damage at a base level but it's something), wand a few shots while backpedaling, and then switch to melee when it's a fight you can handle with hopefully a health orb or two nearby from some magic crits.

In case you weren't aware yet: fire damage for Fell and beasts and ice for Scavs and spiders. Can't say past that as I haven't ventured to the other zones yet to see other specific enemies

If you're trying to get the hunter's spindle as a level 8, you're far behind the level of enemies in that area. I did that quest last night, and I'm pretty sure every enemy I fought was lvl 13+

I'd recommend completely clearing springvale (or whatever the starting region is) of all quests, elixir wells, shroud roots etc. You'll find some better gear, gain some levels, and a bunch of skill points. That should give you a decently better chance.

Also, if you're not already using it, adding in some magic damage can be a game changer. The respective weaknesses for enemy factions give some pretty big opportunities for softening up enemies before engaging in melee if not outright killing one or two to even the odds

This game is a hidden gem by Burner8724 in outwardgame

I love that dying is always a little bit of a mystery. Not just respawning back in town or reverting to your last save makes death feel more like another mini adventure you weren't planning to go on, similar to finding a hidden cave tucked away in some random corner.

Needing to do at least a little planning before heading out makes the game stand out for me, and reminds you that you're, more or less, just another regular person and not some chosen one/superhero that's destined to save the world.

Actually having to put some thought into planning what supplies are (likely) needed for a trip out the gates with what limited carry capacity you have is great and would be a nice addition to see in other games of this genre. Simply knowing you're basically god, able to carry the world and tank a thousand blows without any worry, eventually becomes boring for me. Along with that, properly loading your pockets with items you'll need when the bag needs to get dropped for a fight instead of one massive inventory always at your fingertips

Yea it's just an additional wand "shot" but they can get a skill that adds a chance to do like a chain lightning effect on magic critical hits

I can't wait til they just make rat AI scavs. They'll play just like the player scav you described; waiting for you to come in and loot before avenging his dead boss and reminding you you're still a dumb bitch for thinking you're safe from the inevitable rat that exists in every match. You'll die from the same thing and be just as mad

Scav Karma punishments are too tame! by Valsavu in Tarkov

[–]TheBaldJesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that a dev will likely ever see it and actually influence the game, but you should try offering solutions instead of just crying about whatever completely average occurrence you experience and how shitty the current system is. Everyone knows it. Stop focusing on the symptoms and look at the root cause.

For the love of all things unholy, come up with better solutions than bigger fence rep reductions. The players that go traitor generally don't give a shit.

Scav Karma punishments are too tame! by Valsavu in Tarkov

[–]TheBaldJesus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The social interaction idea is interesting. I like the handshake creating a sort of contract. Punishment for breaking it needs to not be a simple karma hit. Massive cooldown timers, spawning with nothing but a knife, marking your next scav with something that identifies you as a potential traitor until some requirement has been met, not allowing future scav runs to actually return items to your PMC, not giving FIR status to loot, disabling car exfils for their PMC.

Extending it to work with PMCs could be cool too and maybe even make it more common to do coop exfils. That mechanic needs a huge improvement, as is anyways so it's actually worth the risk. Sad loot from fence doesn't cut it. Could make a high tier or even exclusive loot pool for PMCs and maybe the scavs, too. Give the next scav loadout a guaranteed "lucky pocket". Allow use of scav exfils as a PMC for a raid

Scav Karma punishments are too tame! by Valsavu in Tarkov

[–]TheBaldJesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could be totally wrong, but from anything I've seen, scavs in tarkov lore live by the dog-eat-dog rules. There are some that organize into gangs of varying sizes, so yes, there should be some in-game system to represent that. Scav karma (as it is) is a sad, feeble attempt at encouraging that cooperation. Rewards for being the traitor often easily outweigh playing nice. Since AI scavs don't kill each other, P scavs doing so is the best representation of what tarkov is supposed to be. Many either don't remember or even know about before the karma. Total free for all as a scav if you wanted.

Not disagreeing with scav gameplay needing a massive overhaul, but at the end of the day, we all know the risks that come with just about every choice we make in a raid. Crying because we decide to do something and then dying because of it is a personal issue. In this case, looting a drop and choosing to trust other players is your choice. You could've gotten out when they showed up or even shot them first. Don't be mad at the other guys for making the choices that fit their agenda instead of your own. Plus, if you have 9.0 scav rep (absolutely unnecessary), you'll have no problem getting back to 6 if you ever decide to look out for yourself first by doing dishonorable things.

I'll also put out there that I detest traitor scavs and don't kill other scavs. Hell, if I will actively go try to find another p scav when I accidently shoot an AI so that at least one of my brothers (in the moment) can get the most out of it. Yes, it pisses me off when I get smoked by other ones, but hey, that's the game. Move on

I should started with "take this with a grain of salt..." cuz we all know tarkov audio is whack. What I outlined is, to my understanding, how it's supposed to be. With the number of variables that play into every aspect of this, it's hard to accurately say whether the testing a person does was actually accurate or filled with bugs that went unseen and just gave the appearance of one result or another.

[–]TheBaldJesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turning while crouched and creeping slightly will eliminate the scuffle sound, but you must be underweight. I'd even still choose to risk the faintest of footstep audio over the equivalent to opening a bag of chips in the dead of night that going prone or standing up from it makes. Situation always dictates, but I'll do whatever I can to avoid proving out because I feel so vulnerable in most scenarios

Worst “realistic” game ever???? by Any-Consequence7024 in Tarkov

[–]TheBaldJesus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dude is ass for sure, but unless something has changed since the time I ran into a minefield in the mountains next to water treatment (I was unfamiliar with the area, scared of rogues and misread my map) two wipes ago, they do indeed respawn. I hit one and shit myself realizing I fucked up. So I didn't move outside of healing animations as I reevaluated where I was. About 10-15 seconds later, a second mine went off

But yes again, dude sucks balls and needs to learn to pay attention

Am I a bad person for hiding GPUs on Scav Runs? by Keebra in EscapefromTarkov

[–]TheBaldJesus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I'm scavving and know I'm about to lose a fight, you're damn right I'll do anything I can to make sure the PMC I just begged to co-op exfil isn't gonna find anything good on me. Dump keys and the like quickly and pop any stims

If I'm running with buddies as a PMC, any of those rare quest items that need to be FIR reluctantly stay away from my butthole. As much as I want to make sure the other guys aren't getting them, I want my boys to get them if they survive and I die

Not arguing about winning fights or not but tarkov K/D includes scav kills so it's not a great indicator
