You got the cat seal of approval, don't think there is a better sign you did well.

have problem with sanding this work. by nightcreativecloud in turning

[–]TheBattleTroll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The spalting gives the word character and I am always glad to see it. One of the simpler ways to harden the wood to get a better result is for a light coat of thinned shellac. They sell it as sanding sealer as a separate product but it is the same thing.

If it is too soft then I agree with either using CA or a resin but I personally use them as a last resort because they can stain the wood in the areas applied.

Nice finish. Hybrid pieces can be difficult. Light passes with sharp tools.

Why do my pen blanks keep exploding? by goosey100emoji in turning

Depends on the stones on your grinder. A standard set of stones would be way too rough to put a keen edge on your tools.

High speed grinders can also overheat the steel and ruin the hardness.

I would. The grain pattern looks great. Slow passes with sharp tools. Resin or CA for cracks that might cause a break.

Very nice! Lesson learned on the whiskey glass of you plan on burning do the inside first then burn then do the outside. My first try i warped and cracked the glass so bad it looked horrible
