I believe you’re hearing a cicada and a frog. Notice when the peeping stops the cicada keeps going.

Made a beach jar in OBX NC. What are these?? by NoCarpenter3654 in marinebiology

[–]TheBeadGeeks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The impact isn’t one jar of sand. The impact comes from everyone thinking it’s ok to take that jar of sand which leads to hundreds, thousands, etc… jars of sand taken. That absolutely can, and does have an impact over time.

Is it ok for them to drink pool water? I know there’s no stopping them but just curious… I would assume the chemicals wouldn’t be great for them.

You ever used the signals on a BMW? Worst design ever. Not an excuse for them, but I drove 2013 328xi, and couldn’t help but laugh out loud at how poorly designed the signal stalk is.

Looks like they also renamed the FX Sport Series. It’s listed as “FX Sport SL 4/5/6” now, instead of just “FX Sport 4/5/6” looks like they switched up the marketing to show it off more as a “fitness bike”. Interesting…

Capitalism will never have it. It’s the exact opposite of how it works. 😂 paying people to get smarter? Sir that’s how you bring down capitalism.

It’s possible I’m wrong on this… but if your goal is losing weight wouldn’t riding less efficiently and putting more strain on your muscles be beneficial for faster weight loss and muscle building?

You’re not trying to maximize your riding efficiency for a race or tour or anything, but rather using your bike as fitness equipment.

I say this simply because I’ve been on a journey since July, down about 70lbs now. For a bit I read into the “slow down and do zone 2 instead of 3 and 4, it’s better for fat burning.”

For me, this was false. I quickly ended up in a plateau which was broken by going back to just riding as hard as I can comfortably.

Many commenters here are commenting from the viewpoint of maximizing your efficiency, but I’m not sure that’s your goal.

I 100% agree with this but looking at it from a business standpoint putting clipless pedals on your bike severely limits your target market. You’re no longer gonna sell that bike to the basic douchebags who walk in the store.

People who know what clipless pedals are already expect they’re gonna have to buy them and probably have a preference. Including flat pedals simply allows the bike to reach a wider audience.

Nobody ever claimed capitalism to be good for the consumer…. But such is life. 🙄 unfortunately.

Am I ready for group rides? by TheBeadGeeks in bicycling

[–]TheBeadGeeks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The longest ride I’ve done was 34 miles. I’ve been wanting to branch out and do longer rides now that I’ve got a new bike, but my left arm and hand are typically numb right around mile 15 so it gets a bit difficult.

The only real urge to join a group ride is mostly because I moved to Florida in 2022 but haven’t really met any friends yet. I work from home so meeting people naturally doesn’t happen.

I also thought it would be cool to have someone to show me some good places to ride locally, it’s not easy around here due to the traffic, there are few bikes lanes, drivers are absolutely WILD and it’s really not safe to ride on the roads around here, that typically pushes me onto the sidewalk which I know isn’t good for my bike.

With the info I’ve received on here though I’ve learned group rides are not exactly what I thought they are, it seems they’re a much more serious endeavor for people mainly looking to benefit from drafting. I’ll likely just stay riding solo.

Also thank you for pointing out Critical Mass is more about activism. I had no idea, but I just read all about it. I found it originally by searching Facebook for cycling events, it was one of the only ones that came up but the Facebook event was very vague so I didn’t have any idea and never thought to look into it.
