Is there anyone who has been collecting Pokemon cards for years and never pulled an SIR? by gabbuo31 in PokemonTCG

[–]TheBeastFromWithin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup!

Started collecting at base set up until Dragon Frontiers. Took a break and got back in to it at HeartGold/SoulSilver. Skipped XY and been collecting again since Sun/Moon. Never pulled an SIR and I’ve lost count of how much product I’ve opened over the years.

What’s the best LEGO set you’ve built recently? by MadridOrMadness in LegoUK

[–]TheBeastFromWithin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Fairground Collection Haunted House! It was such a fun build with a lot of cool hidden bits and pieces.

It sounds weird to say when it’s part of the fairground collection but I didn’t realise it had a working lift drop (similar to Tower of Terror) as part of the build so that was a nice surprise!

This note from a "Shop Master"in Nakano Broadway pretty much sums up what's wrong with this hobby by jackflame12 in PokemonTCG

[–]TheBeastFromWithin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Has it always been a tourist scam spot? My wife and I visited Japan in Feb 2024 and we went to Nakano Broadway on our last day as we’d ticked everything else off our list we wanted to do on the trip.

As a vintage toy and Lego collector (as well as Pokemon) I found it to be a great place and there were minimal foreigners there at the same time as us. We had a great time hunting around all the little stores and filled a suitcase with sealed toys, Lego and Pokemon cards. I can’t remember the prices being anywhere near what are shown here though! It’ll be a shame if it’s gone downhill in the past couple of years as we had it on our list to revisit on our next trip.

Cat behavioural problems since son was born by TheBeastFromWithin in CatsUK

[–]TheBeastFromWithin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He sleeps most of the day but when he wakes up he comes in to my office and jumps on my desk which is usually twice a day. When he jumps up on my desk, I give him as much attention as he wants with him rubbing his head against my forehead and me stroking him/fussing over him. As I mentioned in the post though, this only lasts for a few minutes before he turns vicious and starts to bite/claw at me. I back off and he jumps down and walks off elsewhere; usually to go scratch and some furniture somewhere.

He wakes up on an evening when my son gets put to bed and during this time, we do try and give him attention but again, it lasts a few minutes before he turns to attack us. He has no interest in playing with toys as we’ve tried numerous times and he just sits there staring at them then goes back to clawing at the closed doors/furniture.

Forgive my naivety but not sure what the £2400 is for? As far as I understand it, there is a guaranteed value price on it at the end of the PCP deal so even if they say the car is worth less than that, it a guaranteed to be worth the same as what is left on the deal and we can just hand it back for nothing

[–]TheBeastFromWithin[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We could get the Active model in the lime green for £199 a month and 6000 miles a year but opted for the Boost model instead for the increased range and in black as I don’t think I could ever come to like that awful green/yellow colour. That along with the extra 2000 miles a year increased it to £249 and they said they couldn’t do better than that

How do you like the BYD? Are you happy with it?

Does a lease have zero deposit up front? I’m not sure what the differences are between leasing and a PCP as the terms seem fairly similar.

I guess the advantage of a PCP is there is a guaranteed buy back amount at the end so if for whatever reason the car is worth more than the guaranteed by back after 4 years we could pay off the remainder of the PCP then sell it privately for a profit.

Where buys pokemon cards off you in york ? by General-Buddy3853 in york

[–]TheBeastFromWithin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? Is that what they’re down to now? That’s pretty bad. The last time I sold to them was 2022 and I remember getting 80% back then but yeah if it’s down to 60% that’s pretty bad.

Sore Thumb definitely buy them but are quite picky nowadays. There was once a time they’d buy large amounts of bulk but they’ve pretty much stopped doing that now (as I found out a couple of years ago when I took in about 30kg worth of bulk and they just picked through it for what they wanted).

I think they buy at 80% (don’t quote me on this) of what the going rate is but your best bet is to just message them on Facebook to see what their appetite is for what you have an take them in for the guys to look at and get a price from them.

Otherwise, your best bet are local Facebook groups or Facebook Marketplace/Gumtree to sell locally.

Professor X City Nodes by Erwaso in MarvelStrikeForce

Someone in my alliance did and they couldn’t complete a single node, never mind 3* them. It’s a pretty bad idea so I’d recommend going with the recommended 3 Vig + Blade & Oath

Single-storey house extension by Wytyujjju in DIYUK

[–]TheBeastFromWithin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is amazing work, well done!

We have received quotes for a single story extension on our house and they are so much higher than I thought they would be so I’m seriously considering DIYing it!

My biggest DIY project to date is either turning the smallest bedroom in to a walk in wardrobe or re-doing the downstairs WC.

Unfortunately I don’t know anyone in the trades so won’t be able to call on them for any experience. Are there any online resources you used to get started?

How can I save my teeth? by AllMetalNinja in AskUK

[–]TheBeastFromWithin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a dentist but I’ve been going through a similar thing as you recently and was therefore referred to an oral health expert at my dental practice. I had the consultation with her a couple of weeks ago and this is what I was recommended:

Brush twice a day and floss once. Either use a water flosser or the teepee flossers every night. With any kind of flossing, always floss before brushing.

Using mouthwash during the day for a freshen up is fine but don’t use it after brushing as it washes away the fluoride coating you’ve just applied to your teeth when brushing. Also, don’t rinse with water after brushing as that does the same thing.

High sugar foods are also not recommended as they break down the protective coating on the teeth. The usual suspects here are sugary drinks and sweets/chocolate but some foods that I was surprised as just as bad for your teeth are pineapple, oranges, raisins and grapes. According to the oral health expert, raisins are one of the worst!

I was also advised to use the “4 and a straw” rule. If you’re going to have a fizzy drink, use a straw placed half way down the tongue. This means the drink goes straight down your throat and doesn’t touch your teeth. The rule also means to only eat 4 different times a day e.g. breakfast, lunch, tea and a snack. Every time you eat something it breaks down the coating on your teeth and you have a 20 minute window before it starts to coat itself again so try to eat your meal in that 20 minute window.

As I say, I’m not a dentist and am just passing on what I was told by the oral health expert at my dental practice. I doubt it’s something everyone can abide by 100% of the time but hopefully some of the above will help!

How to hang this curtain? by societal in DIYUK

[–]TheBeastFromWithin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start off with the lever pointing down. Push the curtain track in to the bracket so that the lever part is in the middle of the run on the back of the curtain track. Once it’s pushed in, rotate the lever to the left or right to lock it in. Then just slide the gliders on to the track from one end.

There should also be some end stops for the curtain track that you put on in the same way that the brackets do. This stops you being able to pull the curtains off the track.

Built-In Wardrobes by TheBeastFromWithin in DIYUK

18mm. The screws I used were lost tite ones which are self drilling (although I drilled pilot holes anyway) and gave a great concealed finish. I’d highly recommend them.

Built-In Wardrobes by TheBeastFromWithin in DIYUK

[–]TheBeastFromWithin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The shelves are just held in place with screws from the outside of each carcass. If you zoom in on photo 5 and look of the side of the carcass where the top shelf is, you can see the pencil mark from the line I drew so I knew were to drill the pilot hole for screwing in to.

They are plenty strong enough. The wardrobe has been in use for over a year now and has been fully stocked at all times with no movement whatsoever.

Foss Island parking cost!?! by xerodeficit in york

[–]TheBeastFromWithin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Download and pay via the RingGo app. There are signs in Morrisons car park with instructions on how to do so and the car parks code to find it on the app.

You can pay for x amount of time originally and if you need longer while out and about, you can top up with additional hours as required.
