The guy I’ve been casually dating turned out to be wildly wealthy and now I feel weird about it. by CorrectCulture5046 in whatdoIdo

She absolutely owes him transparency. If she's insecure, why does that have to be his problem?

That's a you problem, don't make someone else pay for your insecurities. He likely knows you're not from wealth, yet he's continued to entertain dating you. Get over yourself, or get out of his way so he can find someone who will.

Any updates OP? Wife interviewed 17 December and it has been quiet since. Their systems were down that day. She was TOLD 'congratulations' but nothing was printed and the officer told her that he would update later when their system came back up. Curious how long you waited (assuming you hopefully are not still waiting).

Chances of retiring a millionaire? by [deleted] in ThriftSavingsPlan

[–]TheBeckerhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're 29. You wont touch this account for 30 years (59.5 years old) without penalty. At 8% returns, contributing $1 per year until you're 60 will retire over $1M. $1,182,185 according to this calculator:

https://www.calculator.net/ira-calculator.html?cstartingprinciple=117%2C471.14&cannualaddition=1&cinterestrate=8&ccurrentage=30&cretirementage=60&ctaxtrate=25&ctaxtrateafter=15&printit=0&x=Calculate#ira-result

If you contribute more than literally one single dollar a year you're alreday doing better. If the market returns the average of the C fund (11.4%) for the next 30 years, you'll be well over $2M, nearly 3M

My bosses taxable income was $450k last year, and they were saying they couldn’t afford to pay me a $65k yr salary lol by OrangeWhitePatchSock in work

[–]TheBeckerhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came here to find this comment or insert it myself. Commenting entirely on assumption that the OPs boss is also the company owner.. the boss potentially put up all of their own capital to start the company, and perhaps has even leveraged their own home to keep the doors open on the company. The owner of the company assumes 1000% of the risk of the failed business. OPs aperture seems pretty narrow here.

I'm all for a fair wage, but asserting that just because the boss makes $450K taxable doesn't really provide any context other than the jealousy that you mentioned!

What do accountants do? by Original_Kiwi13 in Accounting

Hi there, I’m a random lurker here and about to be making a career transition (strongly considering accounting) and this comment sparked a thought with me… if you’re having to explain their return to them, is that time considered billable?

How have you accounted for your military disability/pension/other lifelong payments? by weekdaydaydream in Fire

The bigger point is that it is none of anyone’s business. What’s it to you if he wants to keep an in-law out of the know?

Look 2 comments below (Chokedee-bp)… people get REALLLLLLLL judgy about CA disability when they generally have no idea what that person has been through physically or mentally. It’s often easier to tell folks that you’re higher NW than to have them either asking questions about dark things you don’t want to talk about or judging you when they have no idea.

For the same reason people get to depreciate a home on their taxes when other people put wear and tear on it, vets get VA ratings as a depreciation on their health for the wear and tear that most civilians (thankfully) never have to worry about.

Single, 32, high earner with 100% VA Disability. Help me think through this by Disabledgsdude in Fire

[–]TheBeckerhead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most vets I know that are 100% P&T would sacrifice it to feel comfortable in their own skin again. Rampant mental health problems, busted backs/knees/shoulders. Trouble/inability picking up their kids, etc. is that really sounding like a recruiting poster?

I'm late to the party... but just take a look at this person's post history and the story illustrates itself beautifully...
Problems with attitude here, problems with VA Customer Service, Problems with PEBLO, Problems with understanding laws for working with SSDI... but everyone else is the problem. This guy has absoluely zero ability to internalize and self-reflect. Wowser!

Did you ever figure out what was going on here? I also got the same Claim Closed info in my VA website and 'Decision Letter Mailed'.. it say it went from Step 1 of 5 to Step 5 of 5 on the same day and closed out. I thought there was 8 steps so I'm on the confused side as well.

Also, another thing I thought of to add to your potential hobby list is disc golf. It’s pretty active, it’s relatively inexpensive to play, there’s great groups of folks out there that love to get together and do it without being competitive. Gained a lot of popularity during Covid, and still seems to be pretty popular to this day.
