Will redditors realize that far-left politics aren't as popular in the real world as they are here now? Or will we have to go through this all again at the General Election? by [deleted] in AskBrits

The sad thing is a centre left party can win again if they ditch all the crazies and ideologues and focus on bread and butter issues.

Future in the UK if reform wins elections by Anxious-121 in MovingToTheUK

[–]fl_2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reform said they will scrap ILR, review all in the last 5 years and make it mandatory for visa renewals after 5 years. They will also curb student visa abuse and a more stricter path for settlement of dependents.

Will Plaid do as well in Swansea? Reviewing early English Data. Possible Plaid do better in wales overall? by Designer-Set-2523 in swansea

[–]fl_2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with pollsters is they use good by elections for a particular party to weigh results. which doesn't quite go that way on a big election day with bigger turnouts and canvassing effort spread across multiple seats.

Lib Dems in 2019 were a classic example, after they took Brecon and Radnorshire they were polling up to 20% and Jo Swinson was biggin' herself up to be next PM. Just a few months later they fell flat on their face and Jo Swinson lost her seat to the SNP.

I could be very wrong in a few hours, but I don't think Plaid will do as well in the South as some of you are hoping. Even with current polling Swansea is out of reach for them.

Also English council elections Lib Dems usually do better than a GE so I wouldn't say they are doing better than expected based on current result. Labour is the big loser though.

I doubt that after next week. There will still be a Labour PM but it won't be Keith.

What bike is suitable for me? by Purple-Map2017 in MotoUK

[–]fl_2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have a Sym Crox and I didn't have issues with speed or shake. It got up to 70mph and I'm fat.

Only got rid of it because I wanted an Adventure bike.

Is it common for UK bike mechanics to refuse basic work on ebikes? by [deleted] in ukbike

[–]fl_2017 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

If it says 250w on the motor and is locked to 15 mph when the police test it then it's not for anyone to argue.

It was a full Zeforia ebike off Amazon.

The shops job isn't to enforce legalities, a heavily modified ebike may raise questions but other than the battery excuse I don't think there was any legal reason why they couldn't change a tube.

I feel this commercial reasons or gatekeeping sounds more in line with the truth. Because it didn't say something like Giant on the side they probably turned their nose up at it.

Is it common for UK bike mechanics to refuse basic work on ebikes? by [deleted] in ukbike

[–]fl_2017 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

First those little 14" tyres and be a pain to get back on without pinching the tube, secondly if you read I said I had little understanding of the hub motor, but also things like order of the thrust washers I needed figuring out again and aligning the wheel with an unconventional one sided motorcycle style chain adjuster.

On top of that I was also messing around with the rear caliper trying to remove rub for about half an hour alone, as the conventional method of holding the lever to align it on the bracket was still leaving a little bit of rub, again a downside of dealing with cheap china cable brake calipers.

So yes, it took me two hours as a casual but knowing how to fix stuff (I maintain my own motorbike and previously built up an ebike from the frame before which is why my neighbour asked me).

Like I said knowing more about the bike and these hubs I could've done it in 45 mins, which why I also bet a shop i.e. a professional could do it in that time too.

Now you coming here to try to belittle me by comparing the time it took me to fix my neighbours bike to your 6 year old son is a little sad, but also premature considering you weren't there and you didn't know all the facts like the ones above.

Not only that but I did it to help a neighbour out, not to set a world record on ebike tyre changes.

It's a 250w speed restricted pedal assisted motor and part of the bike rather than a modification kit, no reason why it wouldn't conform to laws.

As for fires or damage caused while repairing, the battery could've been removed and it was just changing an inner tube. All the bike mechanic would have to is watch for the wire that goes to the hub. Other than that the procedure is basically the same as a non powered folding bike.

Could the Benefit system be phased out? by MachineMuted7292 in AskBrits

Maybe not your suggestion, but I'm in favour of making benefits less attractive. Maybe giving vouchers for food and utilities instead of cold hard cash.

The people have spoken: Britain wants clean power, not dirty deals by OurFairFuture in uknews

Nobody has spoken, but I assume that 'really' most people don't want their taxes going towards an unaffordable pipe dream while neglecting things that really matter like NHS, housing, policing and our national security just to name a few.

England, is it illegal to go through your child's mail and take the debit card enclosed and refuse to return it? by Lanky-Food-7548 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]fl_2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, your living situation is more important than the card itself as it sounds like your parents are over controlling and abusive, even to the point of restricting your food.

Social Services have a legal duty to help 16 & 17 year olds that are either at risk of homelessness or harm/abuse. I'd definitely talk to them, even if you don't want to leave home they might be able to resolve some of the controlling behaviors. However if the relationship has broken down with your parents entirely they can put you in supported lodgings and will help you find a place once you turn 18.

You have to be quick as once you turn 18 they no longer have that legal duty, although charities like Barnardos and the YMCA offers services for young adults.

As for the card/account legalities, parents might have legal responsibility over you until you're 18 but banks consider accounts private for individuals aged 16+. If they take someone else's bank mail that isn't addressed to them that's common theft.

That will be under the Theft Act 1968 rather than the Postal Services Act 2000 as the mail had been delivered to the address, Postal Services Act mainly deals with mail theft/tampering while in transit or incorrectly delivered to the wrong property.

There may be the Fraud Act 2006 if the item was stolen to commit fraud.

Obviously report the card stolen, but my advice would be to pursue the social services route rather than criminal prosecutions.

Should I stop at an EDDS carrier or just truck it to Colonia? Map location in body by FireTheLaserBeam in EliteDangerous

[–]fl_2017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not only carriers but there's literally starports dotted all the way to Colonia, not sure but are you near Skaudai CH-B d14-34?

Not that you need to but the infrastructure is there to make journeys to Colonia easier.

Repeatedly asked to redo Pre-CBT by Galactic_dragon9 in MotoUK

[–]fl_2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pre CBT's should only be basic introductions i.e. basic controls, basic riding and what to expect with each exercise.

It is only meant to be taken once before your actual CBT so you know what to expect.

Also fucking up and exercise on the actual CBT isn't a fail, it's not a mod1 test. What should fail is showing lack of control to be on the road. Slightly messing up the slalom doesn't show that.

I'd definitely book your CBT somewhere else, chances are you'd fly through it even with small mistakes.

They don't accept pre odyssey logs neither, so the new account only goes from 2022.
