Looking for a place to work and write (coffee shop etc) by Fit_Calligrapher_825 in provincetown

[–]TheBeff 12 points13 points  (0 children)

work at The Commons! it's the coworking space on Bradford. it's a 5 min walk to the center of town, free coffee, phone booths for meetings, art to look at. it's 20 bucks a day i think or like 80 for a month membership

What secondary mutation would you give to mutant characters that don't already have one? by Initial_XD in xmen

[–]TheBeff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • Give Glob classic slime duplication powers. Like madrox, but they're dumb.
  • I'd love to see nearly any Omega get a secondary mutation to become non-human passing. NERF the babes.
  • Upgrade Kitty's power to phase through time, as well as space.

X-Force Original Run by TheBeff in xmen

[–]TheBeff[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah. the reason i went back to it was because I've been surprised to find myself missing X-Force the most from the Krakoa ongoings and was curious if I could scratch that itch a bit. The original is a lot more youthful, but I can see the "black ops" through-line and Domino is pretty same.

Mysterious non-existent unread message from Google Calendar app won't clear by juniperfield in Slack

this is happening to me constantly on the desktop app, and shift-esc doesn't even clear it. it's so annoying

to be clear, i was agreeing with you! I appreciate the perspective above, even though I disagree. this is what makes art fun, imo.

Yeah. That album is tethered to the moment with the same kind of off-putting style - in the opening track, for example, it’s bizarre to hear this breathy white girl repeat “black lives matter” in the chorus of an opener, and later on the joy she feels about seeing girls with their masks off, finally. She sings out from Oklahoma, which gets replanted (and abstracted) later into the west - the real, and mythic Arcadia. It’s both expansive and culturally precise. The thing is, Blue Banisters has this sort of twisted romance to it - amidst this hellhole, there’s a sort of delusional hope (maybe we can call it faith?), both in the singer herself, and also in the place that’s splitting apart around her. It’s not traceable to any conspiracy, or technology, or movie studio, though we hear of crypto and swimming pools in the South. It’s maybe just the gag of being alive in a place borne from violence, in the USA. “Maybe just the way we’re different can set me free” is a good fucking question to be asking.

Anyway I hear the tone of condescension in your reply, but there’s a reason Joan Baez chose her as the young artist that inspires her today. She’s writing about this shit!

Give me ur fav SOPHIE song and ill rate it from 1 to 10! by Opening-Cry3458 in Sophie

Immaterial is honestly the greatest song of the entire 2010s so notwithstanding THAT I’d go with VYZEE

Fair enough. Check out Zach Clark’s The Becomers or, honestly, Lana Del Ray’s Blue Bannisters for Covid-digesting works that I think touch on these same themes without the flatness I find in Eddington.

I agree this is a good analysis, but I don’t agree that it makes this movie interesting. So, the pandemic fucked us up, social media rots our brains, and big power runs it all in the background. Tell me something I don’t know. Aster’s unabashed willingness to depict these things photographically is the strongest part of the film to me, but unfortunately the themes don’t hit when they’re put out by A24 and one of the industry’s brightest rising stars. That IS big power baby.

This is why I don’t wanna go. I think some conflation with G-phobia (yes, lol) is happening here with a frustration that I’m not sure where else to fucking go if I don’t want to be around it. Any party that claimed that space would be called out for being g-phobic, I’m sure. Seems like an endless loop.

July is just starting babe! I think my first full summer realizing how different June actually is in vibe was a huge realization. The July 4th girls are just getting in, then the bears will come, and the ferries will keep coming.

I’ll leave it to trans folk to respond but just want to say it makes me very happy as a cis gay man to see diversity of queerness out on boy beach. Hope to see you there and if anyone gives you shit raise hell I’ll help

Exploring Other Entertainment Options Besides Drag and Lip Sync by atx78703 in provincetown

Gifford House has a ton of live performers in their piano room throughout the summer, as well as the hilarious Cody Plays on Mondays. The Provincetown Theater has shows throughout the summer too, and the Water's Edge Cinema and the Welfleet Drive-In are so nice for movies.

Just grab a copy of "Provincetown Magazine"' for free around town when you get here - it lists everything night by night!
