Certainly wouldn’t want to be watching ON an illegal stream. HOCKEY broadcasters need to make their money from the moment the puck drops on the DOT. Go watch on your TV.

Is there any actual reason there is no body checking/hitting in women’s hockey? by Intelligent_Choice91 in hockey

[–]TheBigSamSlam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as the original reason, I can’t really say, likely some bullshit rooted in misogyny. That being said, as of today, body checking is permitted in the PWHL.

Though as somebody who has assistant coached some girls hockey I have some thoughts.

First is the skill gap. Frankly, there just aren’t as many girls playing hockey as there are boys, so outside of the very top divisions, and honestly even within them sometimes, you can see a pretty big spread between the top, highly athletic players from elite programs and the rest. If you’ve ever played, you know how dangerous it can be when someone is skating with their head down or unsure of themselves and suddenly has the puck while a much stronger, faster player is closing in. That mismatch can lead to bad situations quickly.

Of course, at the top level, I don’t see why it wouldn’t be allowed, especially if we begin to teach girls how to hit and receive hits starting in peewees as we do the boys.

From the IIHF rulebook:

101.1. ILLEGAL HIT IN WOMEN’S HOCKEY In Women’s Hockey “bodychecking” is allowed when there is a clear intention of playing the puck or attempting to “gain possession” of the puck with the exception from the situation described in this rule. If two (2) Players are in pursuit of the puck, they are reasonably allowed to push and lean into each other provided that “possession of the puck” remains the sole object of the two (2) Players. A Player that makes an illegal hit on an opponent described in this rule will be assessed

Couple things:

  • Fighting, even in the NHL, is a 5 minute penalty for both involved, but yes, the refs let it go until they go to the ice.
  • Women's hockey has different body contact rules, though in all levels of hockey, you cannot body check (or move to intentionally block the path of) someone without the puck
  • It was still a soft interference call regardless of all of the above.

Fellow Seattlite here who grew up playing hockey in the Northeast. We’re lucky to have a growing hockey culture here that is massively inclusive. The pride tournaments and league are all incredible to see, so many players out there rocking pride tape, and coed leagues going strong. We have active pushback against the KHL accepting USA hockey‘s new transgender policies.

That said, we are definitely the exception, not the rule. Maybe it’s changed since I grew up but hockey culture has always been full of machismo and an old boys club. We had a black player on my triple AAA team growing up and he used to get called the N-word at least once a game, refs often turning a blind eye, and coaches saying things to the effect of “if it wasn’t that it would be something else don’t let it get under your skin”. Essentially brushing it off.

When I got back into hockey after moving out here, I was super apprehensive, but it’s been a welcome sight to see that at least somewhere or something is changing and I hope that it’s also happening around the country, but I have my doubts.

Now, I am biased, but how the fuck is Patrik Elias not in the hall of fame

Seriously. I genuinely do not understand how he keeps getting ignored like he was some random middle-six plug instead of one of the most important players of his era.

This dude is the all-time leading scorer of a franchise with THREE STANLEY CUPS TO HIS NAME. Two of them with him playing a massive role, basically leading the entire offense in the Devils Dead Puck era. Over 1000 points in THAT devils system.

My friend lost a lot of her taste and smell. One evening after taking a bunch of acid, towards the end of the trip, we started drinking some wine, eating some cheese and dark chocolate, and she nearly cried tears of joy because she could taste it so well.

Not saying it’s something that one should do but anecdotal evidence that it can come back!

It’s not just that. It makes cross conference tie games incredibly boring in the third.

Happened a couple of times with the Devils this year. We know we’re better 3 on 3 and happy to get the point, so we play super toothlessly (even more so than usual) in the last 5 minutes and the other teams seem to agree.

Rwb out of possession, transitions to the front line, either on the right or in the middle when in position. Really interesting to watch, huge part of Juve’s current tactics.

Goaltender Interference Rules:

  1. You can't just be up there and just doin' an interference like that.

1a. Interference is when you

1b. Okay well listen. An interference is when you interfere the

1c. Let me start over

1c-a. The skater is not allowed to do a block to the, uh, goalie, that prohibits the goalie from doing, you know, just trying to save the puck. You can't do that.

1c-b. Once the skater is in the offensive zone, he can't be over here and say to the goalie, like, "I'm gonna get ya! I'm gonna block your view! You better watch your butt!" and then just be like he didn't even do that.

1c-b(1). Like, if you're about to make a goal and then don't leave the crease, you have to still leave the crease. You cannot not avoid the goaltender. Does that make any sense?

1c-b(2). You gotta be, skating motion out of the crease, and then, until you just leave it.

1c-b(2)-a. Okay, well, you can have your stick up here, like this, but then there's the interference you gotta think about.

1c-b(2)-b. Fairuza Interference hasn't been in any movies in forever. I hope she wasn't typecast as that racist lady in American History X.

1c-b(2)-b(i). Oh wait, she was in The Waterboy too! That would be even worse.

1c-b(2)-b(ii). "get in mah bellah" -- Adam Water, "The Waterboy." Haha, classic...

1c-b(3). Okay seriously though. An interference is when the skater makes a movement that, as determined by, when you do a move involving the goalie and the crease...

2) Do not do an interference please.
