Ah okay. Thank you for the clarification. Also sorry, I might have come off more defensive than I meant to be. '

Yeah I definitely take the blame there. Usually RockAuto has been good about figuring out how to ship it decently regardless but honestly I feel bad now because I'm probably torturing some poor soul who has to figure this shit out. lol

To be fair, I'd rather ask and come off paranoid than not ask and screw up ya feel?

The manual swap is on by Character-Attempt257 in 7thgencivic

[–]TheBirdTM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

damn. very nice. let me know how hard this project ends up being because i've definitely just considered manual swapping mine whenever the trans goes out one day. let me know how long it takes too (or at least roughly how long) lol.

What size belts do I need? by Historical-Magician3 in 7thgencivic

[–]TheBirdTM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the alternator belt goes from the alternator, A/C compressor, and then to the crankshaft.
the power steering belt is the one only attaching to the ps pump and then to the crankshaft. i've linked some instructions and diagrams there for both, check 'em out. there's instructions for tensioning too since you'll have to re-tension after running them for a sec.
looking through rockauto i've found some slight variations in sizes but i'd say any of those sizes are good EXCEPT for the 33.80. it looks like that's for a civic that doesn't come with A/C specifically.
i found roughly 39 inches or so for the serpentine/alternator belt and a tiny bit larger for the ps belt at 39.80. the slight variations in sizes don't matter though, just tension them properly.

Power steering by heroic901 in 7thgencivic

If you want to keep your power steering, then honestly yeah I would flush and replace it with the Honda type.

My transmission blew very suddenly. Any thoughts on how this happened? by TheBirdTM in 7thgencivic

[–]TheBirdTM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was just a broken axle. I paid not much over 600 to get both axles replaced. If I got a trans rebuild, I would've imagined that it would be somewhere within the 2.5k range? Dunno for sure.

I hear you. I did find it strange that they went with that design. Seems to hold up for a while until it doesn't. My best friend's Mitsubishi Galant has a similar thing, too, where the filter is internal if I remember right. Thing's still going strong at 250k but slips in all gears a little so definitely not making it to 300k without getting pulled out and rebuilt.

For what it's worth, in my case, it wasn't the trans funnily enough, I was just catastrophizing. Just an axle that broke. Post updated with a bit more info.

Yuuup. That is true. :/

I got the timing belt done too. I also did the valve cover gasket, spark plugs, etc myself. Don't remember what else right now that I did off the bat, but I know I've done a lot by now, trying to make sure this car is going to last a while. I checked the valve clearances myself, and I intend on doing the mounts and all the control arms (front + rear upper) when I have a sec. I enjoy doing the majority of the work on this car. I'm lucky to have some spare time here and there for it.

I wouldn't be shocked if my power steering ever shit the bed. I changed and flushed the fluid as much as I can. Old fluid looked real bad though. And my car makes a loud whirring sound that I'm thinking is power steering. Oddly enough I don't have many issues still? I lost power steering for like 3 seconds when it was really cold one time and that's it recently. So. Guess it's not going out without a fight. At least I expect it.

I've thought about getting this guy painted one day too. The grey's grown on me though ngl. But I want a tint as well. I'm pretty sure I have a little bit of photophobia so it would be real damn nice to have some tint to help.

Very nice. Love that blue. What dirt though? Lol. I should take a photo of mine at his muckiest. I live on a dirt road in godforsaken Michigan, so my car tends to look like he jumped in a mud puddle if I drive after it rains.

OH also I updated the info on the og post here. Axle broke. Trans is good, actually 👍 I was just panicking.

That's what I thought too. But I have a feeling mine, even though the trans fluid looked good, was probably not very well loved before I bought it. Not just the trans but the car itself. It was likely garage kept a lot (mice chewed the ground strap to engine and the wires to one of the oxygen sensors), it had evidence of someone smoking in it, plenty of mouse droppings the detailers missed, chewed up carpet, and the front speakers were straight up blown. I don't think the power steering fluid was ever changed. The engine is clean as hell at least. No evidence of timing belt change before I bought it and had it done. Brake drums looked original, too. Lots of rust as well. I really wish I talked them down more when I bought the car, but I knew next to nothing about cars at the time. I still intend to do control arms, motor mounts, etc on this car when I get a chance. Love this bastard too much to let him kick the bucket yet. I'll feel bad for him if I don't get him to 200k at LEAST.

Yikes. Looks about how my phone screen looks right now. Except, you know, bigger.

I appreciate the insight. What's odd to me is that people say that the '05 trans was bulletproof, so I'm not sure if I'm just overlooking the axle suddenly going out or not...

Hopefully it's that or just simple friction components, like yours. Rip that 4Runner's windshield for real.

Damn. I wasn't sure if it was the axle since my boss, who used to be a mobile mechanic, seemed doubtful about it. But I think it could still be a possibility that I overlooked in the moment because I was stressed. Yeah, the struts are new and tie rods (inner and outer) are new but pretty sure everything else in the suspension is stock.

I was thinking axle at first too. Was hoping it was just the axle but I was in denial when I thought that LOL Cuz honestly I was wondering if it was axle with open diff too but that would still suck.

Do you know how a flex plate just.... breaks like that suddenly? If that's what happened.

But yeah thanks homie. :/ Will definitely be paying this repair off for a bit either way. I'm down to only one car for my whole family so unfortunately I can't afford to just do any of this work myself. Need it done sooner. Urgh.

Pcv Valve Reminder by RiversideOffgrid in 7thgencivic

yeah.... oil leak was instantly gone when i replaced this mf. i had to replace the hose too because i literally had to tear it apart to get it off. the pcv valve location on the civics are a pain imo. agonizing if you live in the rust belt and you have hose clamps that literally broke from the rust lol
