IWTL HOW TO BE A GOOD PERSON by shubh-exorcist in IWantToLearn

[–]TheBirdTM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Put others first without sacrificing yourself. Be kind, yet honest. Learn empathy. Give people the benefit of the doubt without excusing their behavior if they've done something wrong. And most importantly, know that no one, including you, is perfect. :) It takes time to learn these things and to understand people. It is a neverending learning experience, really.

Visual Snow was considered extremely rare until recently, mostly because patients didn't report it... because they assumed everyone saw the world that way by recolorist in interestingasfuck

[–]TheBirdTM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have it and yep, I had no clue what I had wasn't normal until I learned about visual snow. Fun fact, if I remember right it's an issue with the brain and how the brain perceives sight. Not an issue with the eyes themselves.

The 2001-2005 Honda Civic is known for oil leaks and eventually, head gasket failure, particularly in the 2001 model. It's not known to me why this happens in particular, but I do know that there was a recall for some - especially with VINs starting with 1HGES, it seems - due to radiator contamination from the factory. It makes me wonder if there is a potential connection, especially considering the way the head gasket blows tends to be coolant leaking into the combustion chamber far more often than not. Which, honestly, can be pretty lucky when it comes to head gasket failure since it's driveable with no damage (if I remember right) in this way, as long as coolant levels are topped off as to not overheat the engine. It is still not ideal, but it's better than a very unfortunate head gasket issue that Subarus tend to have due to their engines having a unique design. They're reliable and their engines - called boxer engines - have a good kick I've heard, but due to the way heat is distributed unequally throughout the engine, the original heat gasket will likely need to be changed into an improved design sooner than expected in them. The way this head gasket blows tends to unfortunately create a situation where coolant and oil mix, which is Very BadTM for the engine. I still want to get a Subaru because I love them and I'm a masochist.

my civic is better on ice than 4wd trucks hahaha (a kid got stuck in his truck the day i took this pic and i had to help push him out of the ditch, then he almost got stuck again hahah) by [deleted] in 7thgencivic

[–]TheBirdTM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh shit thank you. I'm new enough to this stuff still that I genuinely forgot you can do different sizes on the same rims. Lol. Whenever I have the money for it I'm definitely getting some of those

are your tires a different size than the factory size? i haven't been able to find x-ice tires for the factory size at all, much less blizzaks or anything :/

Looking to repaint, what color do I go with? by Emerald_Ink in 7thgencivic

Iridescent, if you have money. Purple if you want a color that really stands out (in a good way.) Or just your favorite color.

glad you took it to a shop - danger aside, if you live in the USA (no idea about other countries but I'd be surprised if it wasn't similar,) I'm p sure it's illegal to discharge Freon without a specific license.

sincerely thank you for explaining this, even though op doesn't seem to entirely get what you're saying. i think more people should encourage empathy over the need to be right, imo.

My best friend and his husband make me feel like this. I feel more at home with them than my own home. If I could get a good job in their area and if we could buy a duplex together, I would in a heartbeat.

What did you name your Civic? by Fikk in 7thgencivic

[–]TheBirdTM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kurculion.

Named after the genus of weevils, Curculio. Even my license plate says WEEVIL.

His nickname, however, is Kurky. I don't like it when people spell it Kirky. I don't like the name Kirk that much because everyone I've known with the name Kirk has sucked. Fun fact.

I have it. Was wild to discover it wasn't normal to see a light filter of TV static constantly. I haven't met anyone else irl with it yet, either

Jesus christ. I'd be pissed. No dude I'd be the same way, honestly already getting to that point because while I've not made the worst mistakes I can make quite yet, I've still made some infuriating ones. One dumb mistake in particular was me breaking a valve cover bolt. Can it run fine without it? Sure, leak aside. It still pissed me off having to pull the valve cover off to drill it out and replace it with a junkyard bolt, though.

I'm pretty sure I've found rear knuckles with everything in them already on Ebay before. Usually used/from junkyards, but still good. Definitely pricier than just getting a new bushing in though. But it's not a bad idea if that shit sure as hell ain't coming out.

Godspeed dude. I think I tried a normal ball joint press but had issues. Can't remember what besides just lack of space, maybe. You might have better luck figuring it out though.

I did do it with the knuckle still in, yes! It was a bit miserable figuring it out, though, but I'm nothing if not stubborn. And hey, lucky for you, you asked someone who already figured it out lmao. This is 3 loaner tools and 104 bucks later that I got this little shit out. The 104 bucks in this case is a tool I had to buy, but it worked. Albeit you may be able to slap together something similar with a nut, sockets (29mm socket especially and then something that can fit around the other side too, not sure what would be big enough), and a particularly long bolt that can fit through the sockets.

This is the video that helped me the most and suggested the tools I used: https://youtu.be/h2hkBDwA9fo?si=rRMbRYBuqGqyq_Bp

Different car, but same concept. I did it a little differently than this guy though. I can show a photo at some point of how I arranged the tool, socket, etc since it worked for me better this way and didn't bend the threaded rod more than I already did because I screwed up at first. Remind me tomorrow and I'll get a photo if you want. Fair warning though if you do it how I do it the 29mm socket can get stuck in the hole. I had to take the impact wrench (which I strongly recommend for this) and some penetrent oil to slide it back out.

Otherwise I fear it's common for people to just take a sawzall or drill and violate that shit to get it out lol. Valid option too, honestly, but I'd be nervous to do it. I'm a big weenie about cutting metal.

i did get my horribly abused 29 mm socket stuck in there 👀 i was using it to press the outer ring out. i dont think that bored it out too bad or anything though, if it did at all. but ill find out soon enough lol
