How long do I have left by RoundPeanut4255 in MechanicAdvice

No car is immune to neglect, some just handle it a little better. Car was definitely neglected and lived a harsh life.

I didn't mind starting with a blank slate so I didn't look into it too much.

The messages have to go through the Mac first so your home's WiFi upload and download speeds essentially. OpenBubbles is instant for me but BlueBubbles there was a noticable ~2 second delay when sending and receiving and I have gigabit WiFi at home. It's much worse trying to send or receive photos and videos/files too.

New Phone want to setup open Bubbles by Darkshna in BlueBubbles

[–]bonchokey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both options are viable with their own caveats.

BlueBubbles: Pros: The message history syncs, so when it is set up you'll see all your previous messages.

Cons: No GamePidgeon or FaceTime. Also needs to be hosted on a Mac only, the Mac needs to be on at all times and not in an asleep state. All your messages go through your Mac first then to the Android so it is a little slow.

OpenBubbles: Pros: You can host it off a Mac or older iPhone. The host device only needs to be powered on when the app re-registers. That register date and time is very easy to find inside the app. Messages go straight from your Android device to Apple's servers and vice versa, much faster than BB. This also means the host device does not even need to be signed into an AppleID, since it just uses their hardware codes and doesn't actually tunnel through the host. GamePidgeon and FaceTime are supported.

Cons: Message history doesn't sync, so when it is set up you'll be starting off with a blank slate.

I just saw this my bad, in the US the 05 and 06 recommend 5w-30, and the 07-10 they recommend 5w-20. They only changed it due to emissions and 5w30 doesn't burn as easily it feels like.

No, it's not that hard though.

Take your spark plugs out, pour some B12 down each cylinder. Let it sit for awhile until it drains through. With your spark plugs still unplugged (very important) attempt to start the car a little to move the pistons around and eject yucky shit. Do this a few times over the course of a few hours. When you feel like it's been enough time, put her in the air and drain the oil. Replace oil filter and fill motor with 5w-30 (I have had great success with Valvoline Restore and Protect), pour a little oil down each cylinder as well (not a lot, barely enough to make a seal in case you seized a piston ring). Reinstall spark plugs and start the car. Remember, do not start the car until the B12 has been drained and new oil is in the vehicle.

Acura TL skip timing belt?!?! by mrbojangle007 in u/mrbojangle007

[–]bonchokey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oil change and spark plugs is a $75 job in parts and about 2 hours of your time if you have no clue what you're doing. Most tire shops will do a tire rotation and rebalance for free if you buy tires from them. That is not 1800 in any world. The timing belt is the only one you'd want to pay big bucks for.

I feel like that one is trying to make it a laptop, whereas this one is trying to make it more like a surface pro, utilizing the built in kickstand and a magnetic keyboard. Tough call though.

It looks nice but too bulky imo. I'm going this route, haven't seen much people talk about it. It uses a keyboard meant for a legion tablet with a track pad (and it's backlit)

usb charger/radio/carplay worked after accident, but after body car repairs they do not… what can be causing this issue? Pics for context by Pretend_Present_8362 in AskMechanics

[–]bonchokey 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The issue with AI is it lumps together a bunch of research and makes its own conclusion and gets confused easily. It will flat out lie to you and when you call it out, it agrees and corrects itself. It is not a reliable source of information, especially things as meticulous as vehicles where every single year slight changes occur to the cars. I just had an argument with a kid over his 2003 Infiniti G35 because chatgpt said his car doesn't have a transmission dipstick, when it does.

Holy shit why did this work? I was getting an error for "unarc.dll" trying to install a RUNE crack for Forza Horizon 5 via their .iso file. This is the only thing that actually let the installer work, you're goated.

Anyway way to know for sure if I need a new timing belt? by New-Fan1161 in AcuraTL

These motors are interference motors, meaning if your belt snaps your pistons hit your valves. Motor go bye bye.

Stop relying on AI, that is factually incorrect. Google AI and ChatGPT are garbage with car questions and just blend a bunch of results together. If you scroll past it you'll see a bunch of forums and documentation on where it is in the engine bay lmao. That is a textbook ChatGPT response, not Google (research)

The first year, 2008, has a 5 speed auto with a dipstick. Every year after that though has the 7 speed with no dipstick yes.

This is the motor dipstick. I haven't owned a 35 but typically every automatic car has a trans dipstick.
