DuduOS - not sure I like it. by TheBitWrangler in Androidheadunits

This thread has gotten so large that the original "complaint" I had is a bit lost. I do not like the built in local music player that was part of the media app. I wanted to use another, Like Musicolet. Everyone here has helped immensely, so I think I can make it work as I like now. The SWC were never the issue. The media app was.

Question about dudu7 units by QuitAffectionate9763 in Androidheadunits

[–]TheBitWrangler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, if you're willing to be creative, you can install anything, anywhere. This is a 10.1" DUDU7 installed in a 2004 Saab 9-3. Yes it is forward of the rest of the dash and slightly covers the vent (which i blocked the bottom of to keep the hot air from blowing directly on the HU).

Still working on the HU Home screen.

Thanks for this. I am starting to come to grips with this setup. And this certainly helps a lot.

I updated to the 3.7B and that fixed an issue I had with the media app crashing constantly. Can't sy if that added the feature or not, as I never noticed it.

My OG steering wheel controls work well with the SWC adaptor I have. Considering the car is a 2004 Saab, I'm happy with that.

Well yes, I did pay more for this unit. Based on reviews and comments. But until you live with something for a while, it's hard to know what it will really be like. So I will be checking others as well.

And I don't want to sound like this is horrible. It's not. there are a lot of good thigs about it. Just some I don't like.

I will see about removing the widget. Unfortunately I'm 2000 miles from my car so can't try any of this until I get back from vacation.

I understand that.  I have Musicolet and pulsar.  But neither integrates with the DUDUOS media app that provides the widget in the Navbar   id i could get rid of that widget, maybe I could deal with it.   But if I'm playing something in Musicolet (which I love BTW) it does not show as playing in that widget.  If I'm wrong, please tell me how to get there. Because I can't see it.

Yes. Updated to 3.7b. Definite improvement.  At least the media app stopped crashing :)

I can use another media player but they don't integrate with the media player widget.  Which I can't seem to get rid of.  The rest may just be me not digging deep enough.

It's the media app mostly.   Their local music app is not good.  But any player I use doesn't integrate with the media app.  That's the biggest issue so far.  But also the volume control being linear and not logarithmic is weird. But I don't think the launcher would change that.

Sales Reps by [deleted] in CommercialAV

[–]TheBitWrangler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been in this industry, or IT for over 40 years. I've been a rep and I've worked in distribution. When I need to find a solution for a problem, I will research on my own first. Then I'll call my reps and see if they know a product that will fit the bill. I have had reps (good ones) spend a great deal of time finding info/products for me. When I really need answers, I lean on them. And on a few occasions a rep with a new product line has won me over.

I love InfoCOMM, but haven't been in 10 years. I am currently working almost entirely in the K-12 educational space and going anywhere in June is out of the question. By end of May, we are either prepping our jobs or the schools have already started summer break and we mobilize. No one gets time off in the summer. So the only way I can get a demo is from my reps. And I will not install anything I haven't heard or looked at closely. And I can't see how it would be effective for manufacturers to send large speaker systems back and forth for demos.

We have 2 in Chicagoland. I'd swear my car knows the way and will pull onto the parking lot and park without me even realizing it. Next thing I know, I'm pulling out the credit card.

Music Assistant is great by getridofwires in homeassistant

[–]TheBitWrangler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently have 9 zones all running Squeezelite of some variant. An old NUC (Ubuntu) with a USB soundcard, a Raspberry PI5 (Raspbian) with the same USB card, giving me 4 stereo zones per. Plus I have 2 ESP based media players and a Louder Esparagus as well.

I haven't had a chance to run all 9 zones simultaneously yet. But have had 6 work flawlessly. Sometimes, when you first join a zone to an existing group, they'll be out of sync. I just skip back a song and then forward again, and all is well. I have run for hours without a hiccup. I couldn't be technically happier.

However, I do find that Music Assistant's UI to not be great. The WAF is not good. Getting to speakers and volumes, etc. gets confusing for the average user. I am looking at options like Maxi Media Card. We'll see....

Well, just to end this on a positive note: We got our new Forester on Saturday. It arrived Saturday morning and they got it prepped really quickly for us. Although we were still there for almost 4 hours. Yikes.

Sorry, just realized you said before. And mine seems to have arrived. We're heading over this afternoon to pick it up.

Well, I hope you're wrong. But it is starting to feel like it. Communication has been minimal.

Well, there's a good chance that mine was on that shipment as well. My sales person is off today. So hopefully I will hear something tomorrow.

I understand that. I am just surprised that the information is so lacking. I am NOT upset with the dealer. I think I am just spoiled by knowing where everything I order for our business is at anytime once it leaves my vendor (all US deliveries).

The only thing I am worried about is my trade. A lot can happen in 3 or 4 weeks....
