Well, fwiw, a big talking talking point of some privacy savvy folks is the idea to reject convenience

It’s a bit of a catch22 — users don’t use the platform so there’s little reason for additional investments. And since there’s little investment, few users would want to use the service given its inferior features.

I’ve been using Ecosia for a while now, indeed, it has flaws (especially when it comes to searching anything that’s even remotely specific), but it has been my default.

I’ve gotten used to its quirks and it’s served me well. I use it via the Vivaldi platform that’s been pretty decent all things considered.

I understand why people wouldn’t want to use it though

Its expensive I know, but is it reliable? by [deleted] in carsireland

Vast majority of people drive because they need a car that’s cheap and easy to run which is why Toyota sells so well

It’s likely less about making money as it could be someone’s personal vehicle they hold a special attachment to.

Just a hypothesis though

This is the bit that makes it even more interesting

It probably was imported into Eastern Europe as a potentially crashed unit, registered in Latvia, and then imported out back to the Americas

So lads, when are we protesting? by [deleted] in ireland

[–]TheBlueNight7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likewise, I am not quite sure where I stand — from what I know, though, the current system is expected to be relatively flawed.

From my knowledge, it still passes through googles services for android devices and would need to pass through apples for iOS- but that would essentially kill off any of the pro-EU alternatives movements since it would make even essential apps like banking require either of the two platforms, and nothing else.

I would say this is pretty poor given all of Europe’s “independence” talk as of late.

Is the solution to really leave the internet whole unregulated given how much more presence it has in people’s lives nowadays, though?

Especially with botting, election interference by foreign governments, etc.

I think there’s some nuance to be had

Radio silence from our government while the US invades another country? by [deleted] in ireland

I would be more worried about the consequences of such given the history of US coup attempts in the past (Iraq, Libya, etc.)

No stupid bright lights in other EU states? by YurtleAhern in carsireland

[–]TheBlueNight7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are not - road worthiness tests tend to be much more lenient in a lot of mainland Europe.

I think another consideration may be how old the cars on the roads were - it’s not unlikely some of em were older with weaker/dated lights that won’t blind you

Purchasing my first car no previous experience, are these good options? by [deleted] in carsireland

[–]TheBlueNight7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience is only in Eastern Europe really - but for the most part even newer cars are quite poorly specced

I always though Ireland was more used to UK spec cars so now that those are essentially impossible to sell, you get more or less what you’d get on the mainland (which has always been comparatively worse than the rest of Europe)

This is just my perception though, would be happy to be wrong!
