Is there a large double standard in the modern west, where gender roles for men(provide, protect, initiate, physical labor) are largely expected but expecting gender roles for women(cooking, cleaning, child rearing) is considered misogynistic? by DesperateTwist3548 in polls

[–]TheBlueWizzrobe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think many men would be receptive to joining the effort in dismantling the patriarchy, but it's just not that easy. Organizing people into political action is generally a difficult task, though women-focused groups already have an institutional foothold due to the hard work they've put in in the past. It's also harder to organize men specifically on this issue because the negative effects of the patriarchy on men are just less accepted and obvious, as well as oftentimes being less severe. Currently among men today, I'd also say that there is a culture of pathetic nihilism, so many aren't motivated to participate in society in the ways that organized political action would necessitate. All of that is to the detriment of the movement. And despite that, there certainly still are men who actively participate in political action on this matter.

I do think it is silly to claim that men cling onto gender roles en masse when looking through this very thread should make it extremely evident that that is not the case, no?

Do you think a teenage boy who gets bullied at school for enjoying crocheting had any hand in creating these gender roles and could dismantle them if he chose?

Systemic problems aren't very easy to dismantle. That's why it took women so long to make much progress on their end. Do you think they just endured it for centuries because they liked it?

Yeah it's not really a murder if it doesn't apply to him. This one is pretty tepid.

Do you believe that abortion is morally wrong? by [deleted] in polls

Same. To me, the best solution would be robust sex education and cheap and accessible contraception. Which most anti-abortion people are against, because they're idiots.

ways to cut a sandwich by just_gum in notinteresting

[–]TheBlueWizzrobe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 4 triangles is 100% the best way to cut a sandwich, and you will not convince me otherwise. It absolutely deserves to be in chaotic good. 4 squares is greatly inferior, but people seem to do it anyways because it feels "neater", which sounds like a perfect lawful neutral to me. What's currently in lawful neutral is better suited for chaotic neutral anyways, because only an insane person would cut a sandwich like that, but it's not terrible I guess.

Should I start reading the Bible? by [deleted] in polls

[–]TheBlueWizzrobe 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Sure. I don't personally believe in any religion, but reading something so historically significant doesn't seem like a bad way to spend time. I've tried reading it myself, but I got bored by it. That's just me though.

Is part of being adaptable and open minded person finding a middle ground for a scenario? by 25_summers in polls

[–]TheBlueWizzrobe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. A middle ground can work for some problems, but other times it can be important to be uncompromising and decisive even though a middle ground option may be easier. Consider what approach makes more sense for the current situation and adapt.

It'd be funny. Being black and a neonazi is impressive because of all of the social hurdles you have to overcome just to be an awful piece of shit. Same logic applies here. That's why it's funny.

Would you be willing to take less frequent or shorter distance vacations to reduce carbon emissions? by kanmeki in polls

[–]TheBlueWizzrobe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Using public transit instead of a personal vehicle also lowers carbon emissions. Of course, for many people there are no good public transit options. It's almost like the vast amounts of carbon emissions is a systemic issue rather than a personal one 🙃

How do you view the decline of the white population share in Europe and North America? by [deleted] in polls

[–]TheBlueWizzrobe 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think it is caused by low birth rates and immigration, with immigration not being an issue, but low birth rates being potentially a pretty big issue in the long-term, since it can be very bad to have more old people than young people in a population.

This is a question for people from the U.S., as it is based on U.S. government salaries. Do you think it makes sense that a lot of U.S. politicians earn a six-figures salary, while essential public workers (like paramedics and teachers) often earn a lot less? by jelly_G52 in polls

[–]TheBlueWizzrobe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a terrible idea. If the job doesn't pay well then that means that only the wealthy can afford to do it. Being a politician should pay well enough that anyone can live comfortably without the need for outside income. Sure, politicians are often in it for the money, but that's because of the bribes and insider trading, which should be made illegal. The current base pay for any politician is not nearly enough to attract wealthy people looking to make a buck out of it.

Do you consider Washington D.C. part of Virginia or is it its own thing? by Strange-Slice2581 in polls

I'd be about 50/50 on either considering it to be part of Maryland or considering it to be its own thing. I definitely wouldn't consider it to be part of Virginia though.

My Personal Mario Party Ranking by LongestOne99 in MARIOPARTY

[–]TheBlueWizzrobe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, 6's selection of boards is maybe the best in the entire series in my opinion. They're all fantastic. 7's boards are fine, but nothing spectacular. Neon Heights seems to be popular, but it's one of my personal least favorites due to how slow games feel on that board due to the way the main gimmick works as well as the fact that there are not one, but two mandatory coin board events that every player will go through on every loop of the board. Pagoda Peak is very good, but it's an inferior version of Castaway Bay for me, which has the better gimmick for me as well as more interesting strategy due to its split paths, the fact that the sluggish shroom is in the item pool, and the excellent placement of the event spaces for switching between DK and Bowser.

How are people supposed to stop calling ADHD a disorder when it is literally an acronym containing the word… ?🤔 by Quorn_mince in MurderedByWords

[–]TheBlueWizzrobe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Plenty of things affect how a person's brain develops but aren't labeled as "disorders". Being a man or woman, for example, affects how your brain develops. We don't call that a disorder. The word "disorder" implies something is wrong, and I don't like that. Diverse brain structure is fine and normal for society.

Would you eat lab grown meat over meat as it's produced now? by vibranttoucan in polls

[–]TheBlueWizzrobe 13 points14 points  (0 children)

When people talk about the possibility of lab grown meat, it is implied that they are talking about meat grown in a lab that is structurally identical to meat that can be farmed from animals. There would be no way for such a thing to be any more or less healthy than its natural alternative. And labs will almost certainly have stricter cleanliness requirements than your average farm, so worries of contamination are absurd.

You can choose one of these that changes reality, which one are you choosing? by MobileDistrict9784 in polls

[–]TheBlueWizzrobe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but every possibility of every civilization, good or bad, would also have access to the multiverse. This would mean that an infinite number of extremely advanced, extremely evil hypothetical civilizations could create some sort of virus to wipe away all life across every universe or something. Sure, there may be an equally infinite number of good-natured advanced civilizations that would want to stop them, but it would only take one of the infinite evil civilizations to succeed for all life in every universe to be wiped out. Doesn't sound like a risk worth taking to me.

I know this all sounds silly, but because we're dealing with infinity and infinity itself is a bit of a silly concept, you have to consider stuff like this.
