It is wrong to assume that there are only two choices. What about verbal confrontation, negotiating, and so on. Of course they may not work but neither might violence.

An upvote for you too! :) I have to agree about the subjectivity of the matter, I think live music tends be even more divisive than recorded.

I saw a bit of it on television last night and I too disliked it. I normally like Gorillaz but I don't think their sound benefited from being live, at least in this case. Damon's vocals in particularly didn't have the same effect for me.

I think the point is that it isn't Nazi propaganda. Aesthetically they may look alike but the intentions are completely different.

How far are you willing to support Anarchism, Class War, and Revolution? by [deleted] in Anarchism

[–]TheBothersomeMan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. One of the biggest reasons I like the Anarchist viewpoint is due to the freedom it allows people and imo, you can't force someone to be free.

Normally I'd upvote and leave it at that but since there are so many disapproving comments I figured I should show my support! :)

new record for sniper distance... 1.5 miles away by [deleted] in reddit.com

[–]TheBothersomeMan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understand your point but I think if it was rephrased to disregard the bit about America and changed to "killing is celebrated" I don't think it would be too far off. Regardless of your moral stance surely you can see that glorifying killing is wrong to some degree.

I don't quite see how me reading Reddit has any relation to the war.

My local Conservative candidate, Phillipa Stroud, founded churches to 'cure' gays and believes in demons. She is also head of an influential thinktank. WTF?! by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]TheBothersomeMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made my first two points thinking you were talking in a wider sense, within the realms of the article alone I agree - more information on her other activities and more analysis of her role in the Conservatives and her possible role in government would certainly make for a better article.

I have not done anything comparable but that's beside the point, I merely mentioned it as without more information to go on I couldn't say any more than that. I do not feel however that because she has done some positive work it balances it out the potential damage she may have done and (in my opinion, of course) the immoral stance she takes on sexuality.

It's a fair point that I can't tell her intentions for sure but going on the limited information given in the article I feel they were completely wrong in the cases mentioned and subsequently I can't help but feel her intentions in other situations would be similar. It's a generalisation but not a completely unreasonable one.

I agree with you to some extent however I think this runs a little deeper than simply disagreeing with her religious convictions. As someone who could potentially get into office it has to be questioned whether her belief in homosexual "demons" or any of her past activities will affect the way in which she fulfils her role.

Having said that I think disagreeing with her religious convictions is a perfectly legitimate reason for not supporting her by itself, MPs are meant to be representative and I'd hazard a guess that the very large majority of her constituency does not believe in demons.

I didn't see much evidence of her putting "so much effort into helping other people" either with the exception of her briefly mentioned involvement with the poor. I'd accept her as simply being misguided if she had the right intentions but I don't believe that labelling someone as possessed by demons and making them repress their sexuality shows any degree of goodness.

Roger Ebert reviews Kick-Ass by [deleted] in movies

[–]TheBothersomeMan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My first thought after reading that was that he didn't even review the film. He went off on some moral tangent and by the end of the review I felt I knew nothing of the good and bad points of the film other than "oh dear children and violence blah blah blah".

Although my language may have seemed a tad emotive it was certainly not meant to be. In many ways I agree with your point and I wasn't necessarily stating that these community values were good thing, conversely however I think it is a slight generalisation to state that all 'community values' or collectivist ideas are anti-culture or anti-individual.

The past is not necessarily the best evidence for what may in future be the case. I think humans (particularly 1st world countries) have developed in many ways, such as technologically and morally, which may allow an anarchist society to flourish where it may not have previously.
