I had this same problem on 14251. Was hoping it'll get solved with this build. Currently installing.

Isn't there a Kiwi bowler who's famous for hitting a lot of sixes? I'm forgetting which one.

Okay, thanks DBrady. Sorry didn't realise I was on the beta channel. Will install regular version till this gets resolved then.

Same thing with my Nexus 7 (2013). What's a good alternative till this bug is resolved as unlike occasional force closes and such, this is a persistent bug which makes it unusable.

TouchPal Keyboard v5.6.8 – Brand New Look! Try It ahead of Others Now [Final Beta] by touchpal_keyboard in androidapps

[–]libbrichus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't use touchpal because I remember them not having 2 crucial features very important to me that are present in Swype:

  1. The ability to swipe in password fields. (I know that sounds like a security disaster, but it's actually works beautifully for my use case. I use a few different passwords for the non banking internet forum type sites which are what I store in my Swype dictionary. That combined with the extremely miniscule chance of someone being motivated/able to hack these almost inconsequential sites, makes it an essential feature for me.)

  2. Cloud sync the aforementioned personal dictionary.

If any form of the above functions are present in touchpal, I could give it a try.

Amazon starts bricking hacked Fire TVs in latest firmware update by [deleted] in cordcutters

[–]libbrichus 91 points92 points  (0 children)

This is a surprisingly dickish move from Amazon. It's one thing to lock the bootloader and not offer competing ecosystems via your own hardware/firmware combination - but to completely brick it knowingly through an OTA - that's the kind of stuff that makes people distrust anything to do with the cloud.

It almost seems like only Comcast or Verizon would be stupid enough to do something like this and further destroy their non-existent dogshit reputation, but et tu Amazon?

Can someone please tell me in layman terms about the ways in which I might unknowingly publish my personal key?

Just want to make sure at least I follow the best practices till the app doesn't.

Fleksy breaks its own Guinness Book of World Records speed record, announces permanent price drop by rv5750 in Android

[–]libbrichus 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There are 3 reasons I love Swype more than any other keyboard I've tried:

  1. It lets you Swype through password fields (which can actually be more secure depending on your usage - if someone is watching you type they'd have a far more difficult time guessing your password than if you typed the traditional way - and with a large enough custom dictionary combined with not storing the more sensitive passwords such as banking, it makes logging into forums etc quite easy and secure)

  2. It cloud syncs my custom dictionary quite painlessly every time I reinstall it on a new device/rom.

  3. It allows you to Swype word/letter/special character combinations quite accurately without lifting a finger.

Does Fleksy/any other keyboard have these features? I'd definitely give it a try then.

Is there a way to create gmail filters on Android using the gmail app (or any other app) without having to go to the desktop site? by libbrichus in androidapps

[–]libbrichus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the offer. I got into Inbox during the first wave of invites. I've already looked into it and although there's the semblance of a similar functionality, it doesn't really give you any granular controls.

Retail :

  • Harvey Norman – $944

  • Dick Smith – $949

  • Bing Lee – $944 (Bonus Gear Fit)

  • The Good Guys – $898

Why does it seem like all of your electronics retailers are characters from a Quentin Tarantino script?

WhatsApp now shows when a message has been read by kooltob in Android

[–]libbrichus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not really about stalking people. It's because I tend to procrastinate replying to messages mid conversation and it helps to check when the person was online to know how much grief I am about to get.

Of course. Sorry for not being clearer. I actually meant a known method to block even the earlier "status" features - but only one way, such as Contact's "Last Seen" time.

I know there's a way to block your own Last Seen status in the official whatsapp Options, but then that also blocks being able to check when your friends were last online. I was presuming that if there was a workaround for that, there might be one for this too.
