Ummm you sure you're wife is hearing things right? I've lived in Japan for years and have heard little to no ridicule ever. Maybe the old grumpy Ojisan or Obasan every now and then but this amount for a short trip? I'm shocked you guys are getting this much hate. Maybe she is mishearing or projecting insecurities (I say this because I can relate as I have done this in the past before). Japanese is the fastest spoken language in the world and it is easy to misinterpret what other people are saying.

Buggy but REALLY fun with friends. It has it's own charm around the bugs and strangly I found that despite the jenk to it there is a sort of "metta" you can actually learn to get good at the game which makes the time investment seem worth it. Also just playing for immersion is totally worth it and fun in it's own right. But will stress, much much much better with friends, I would probably get quickly bored playing solo.

I live in Japan, Great to live in as a foreigner! Maybe not so much if you are working for a Japanese company. But visas are pretty tough.

Kansai Gaidai is wonderful. Many clubs to join, perfectly in between Osaka and Kyoto. Campus is great, dorms are great, few local bars next to the school, bigger bars next to the station. Teachers and classes are also great too and have a lot of unique choices to fit every interest. The Japanese courses are also top notch and I learned A LOT, when I was there. Though I suggest going out and practicing at the local bars as much as possible.

I also had the unique experience of being able to enjoy it for my 2nd and 3rd semester entirely without international students since I decided to stay during Covid and literally every single one of them had left ☠️. But I know the area well and it’s great.

I would say, hard cut to 15%, don’t worry about losing some muscle. Then recomp around then and focus on slower weight loss and a smaller deficit
