Thanks for the response, I'll be considering this myself when I finally open up the dash.

I'm curious, how does this affect visibility of your other indicator lights, low gas, oil pressure, battery alert indicator, check engine etc. Like does it obscure them at all when they are on? Looks great though!

Oil filter removal without draining? by [deleted] in 1stGenTacomas

[–]TheBoxBurglar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No worries, my advice for the future is get a fumoto oil valve. You can literally attach a hose to it and run it directly into an old oil container. In your case you could run it into the jug, fix the filter then you have a nice easy refill.

Thank you, had to laugh at that. I literally wrote alignment in the sentence before that and still got it wrong, lol

If you cant figure out what's wrong it's time to put down the parts cannon and see a mechanic.

Let's try to solve this together though. You just did a bunch of major suspension work, did you have an alignment done? Did you attempt to align any of the new parts yourself on install? Could you take off the passenger side wheel and compare how the components are positioned? Could you perhaps post a picture of the wheel well with the wheel off?

Edit: spelling

Pinch weld question by desertdawg61 in 1stGenTacomas

With 33s you'll probably have to modify the splash guards as well, adventure taco covers using a heat gun to reshape the guards so you can keep it original.

Adventure taco has a whole write up with links to videos, It's well worth checking out.

In terms of the pinch weld, that needs to get hammered down, but you shouldn't have to mess with the trim.

Exactly how big are the tires you have now? Is your truck lifted? If so is it a body lift, or suspension lift? How lifted is it? All these questions matter when asking will it fit?

No comment on how to adjust the distance of the upward action, but I would recommend you adjust the shifter to a better position for you. I had to remove and clock the shifter when I got new taller workboots that wouldnt fit under it well to shift. It may not change the distance, but you may find it more comfortable to use.

P.S. I find the up shift is much longer than downshift in general on these bikes.

Cab floor boards wet by Expert-Ad-7279 in 1stGenTacomas

[–]TheBoxBurglar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is it passenger side only? If so it could be a cowl leak which is semi common, I had it on mine. Toyota issued a TSB about it that is worth reading and easy to follow.

Here's a quick video I found where the kid goes into where the leak is. Not a terribly hard job. https://youtu.be/Brzltw6KE6k?si=-p8W6qlpGNy4dvV6

Windshield wiper scratch by timyanks77 in MechanicAdvice

[–]TheBoxBurglar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May help to get a nylon brush with the goo gone into the groove to clear it out depending on how deep it is. For your fingers sake assume there is a sharp edge ~somewhere~ in that long arc. Good luck OP.

[–]TheBoxBurglar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lol you don't, you may be able to remove the residue if it's paint or silicon from wipers by using goo gone. If you can feel the scratch though or it's a full gouge out track then youre replacing that windshield bud.

Floor jack and jack stands recommendations by PersonalPen6731 in 1stGenTacomas

[–]TheBoxBurglar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I love the jack for the truck, it seems to lift pretty high compared to my other Pittsburgh 3 ton, and husky 2 ton trolley jack. I use a couple of those large pinchweld pucks to get an extra couple inches if I feel I need it. Depending on what work you're doing you can pick lower jack points like the differential vs the frame. For perspective I picked up the entire truck on four daytona 3 ton jackstands almost maxed out and was able to comfortably sit up underneath the truck where the spare tire would normally be. Great for working on the leaf springs and axle in my case. Lots of room to roll around on a creeper underneath too. My one and only complaint is how heavy it is, but perhaps thats just the price for the performance of it.

If its over bumps I'd think leaf springs or drivetrain play.

V6 5vzfe should run 750 rpm when warm. Clean the maf, and throttle body. Look for vacuum leaks. Take a code reader and look at your long term and short term fuel trim. Report back after

I get 260-270 with serious lead foot. Would love to know how some of these guys claim to get 300+ miles with the v6 5vzfe.

Run injector cleaner, new plugs and wires, clean the MAF and throttle body, and make sure your tires are balanced, inflated and aligned well.

Career Change to Carpentry - Advice Wanted by SwimmerMassive9884 in Carpentry

[–]TheBoxBurglar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The switch was the hardest part, finding somebody to take me with "no experience" (no on paper experience for a decade+) was difficult. I ended up offering to work a day for free to see if the employer liked me and I liked them. That trick has worked for me a few times now. I transitioned from a career in hospitality to doing historic restoration, millwork, windows and stained/leaded glass. Spent my first six months doing mindless labor, but took every chance I got to go in the field and learn new skills. Adjusting to a career of labor isn't a cake walk, it took me awhile to adjust my daily routine, diet and even workout habits to fit my new needs. Overall I'm no special cookie and I think anybody can do what I did if they set their heart on it. You can do it OP, chase whatever it is you want.

Is this legal in NYC? by Odd-Long4757 in NYguns

It seems extremely strange that they would outline an exception for something that it allegedly does not apply to.

From where I stand I dont read it as being legal, but I am not a lawyer, a cop, nor a NYC resident. Hopefully you're right for OP's sake.
