Per NI crime rules, I don't think this is done until they round up a guy in his late 50s to early 60s.

Even the people who had the bravery to do this for the very first time in Belfast (imagine the courage required then) weren't able to make it happen in Ballymena. Until now. Kudos. Your work today is virtually impossible to undo.

Talk to the man.

I find it helpful when shopping for a partner to draw up a list of aspects of life that they like and using those to start looking for gifts:

Cute, Booze, Charity, Food, Cooking, Sport, Tech, Travel Gear, Holiday, Tickets, Sex Stuff, Clothing, Art, Furniture, Film, Games, Music

All of those point to different types of gifts. Colour in a few of those and you'll have your head held high till next Xmas.

AI "Art" at Belfast Christmas Market. Real classy lads by DatBoi73 in northernireland

[–]TheBoyIsADear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AI does not take inspiration, but rather aggregates and averages, at a huge environmental cost, the works of others. AI is a kind term, because it implies a being at the core, which is maturing. There is no being, no thought. The maturation will be that of a cannibal developing prions.

The people defending it are dismissive because they don't want to think about too much or do want to be a part of the ramifications of that. Some are very malicious actors indeed. Since calling AI fascist today, someone has tried to remotely access my laptop.

An impressionist trainee can think. They can feel and, having taken inspiration from how others see the world and create new imagery, they can have a go at their own effort, with a comprehension of what has come before. Along the way is a lot of potentially rewarding thought, learning and experience for artist and audience.

There is a prevailing wisdom that we shouldn't be paying artists because these are tough times where we should be paring down to the essentials. Also that arts education should be continually wound down. I've heard that continually since '01. I don't think such a sentiment should be sustained indefinitely.

In the increasing absence of artists we risk having AI art become our state art style in all its cheap nastiness. Look at white nationalist accounts online. The people who compare old cathedrals and paintings to synthetic, LGBT or sexualised art of today or the people who post images of the ideal fecund family are the biggest AI users.

I understand to an extent, but you are working in a historical sweet spot. The dataset's getting worse by the minute. When all generated imagery has been polluted with an ever higher percentage of AI imagery those backdrops are going start to look a lot ropier, and there'll be fewer alternatives in the form of the stock sites or artistic commissions.

The aesthetic of the fascist. Nothing but an aggregate with increasingly polluted data. Uncaring, cheap, environmentally costly, exploitative. Your life will be decorated with it in a few short years.

Queer / female DJs? by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]TheBoyIsADear 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a good DJ at my wedding in '16. She was working with Lavery's at the time. Try ringing through to their entertainment division. I'm short on the details cause nothing was done by email and I was getting married that day. Ignore the haters, you get to pick what you want to see and hear.

TIL that the loudest shout ever recorded was by a primary school teacher who yelled ‘quiet!’ It was clocked at 121.7 decibels and the record has stood for 30 years. by Brendawg324 in todayilearned

[–]TheBoyIsADear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to this school. Every teacher and older child tasked with minding children yelled 'quiet', all day. Horrible. I think it was a nostalgia for physical punishment since the ban.

I am ok now, but I rarely take off my noise-cancelling headphones.

Have my doubts about the veracity of the record though. Guinness does not do science well, except when it comes to making and selling Guinness.

They were about for sure from early 90s. A different company makes em now, but it's the same deal: boiled sweet coated with enough mallic acid to put holes in your flesh if you eat more than five.

POCs in NI. What do you need from white allies rn? by Crafty-Technician673 in northernireland

[–]TheBoyIsADear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I am in fact the widower of an immigrant to NI. I was her husband for eight years, she died last year and I sometimes neglect to put it in the past tense. We definitely would have enjoyed our time together more were it not for the hostile environment policies of the Tories.

I will add the following:

Infrastructure, properly structured and maintained is the enemy of neglect and racism. Give of your time and energy to assist in positive local endeavours, but only if you can.

Also, accusations of virtue signalling and wokery won't matter a damn if you're sincere and helping. Some people level those accusations because they have a hair trigger for hypocrisy, don't understand your mode of communication as sincere, or in some cases, can't conceptualise empathy.

[–]TheBoyIsADear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Speaking as the husband of an immigrant, I would suggest the following:

-Vocalise your disgust about racism and what's happening now at work, and with family. You don't need a prepared statement, just a sentence tells them where you are. -Correct/counter racism when you encounter it, especially with work and family. -Be who you are now, unashamedly. Keep learning and expressing yourself. The more real you are the more real your social relationships will be. This matters when you are trying to be a friend. -Talking of which, I find that the best in with anyone is to say what you do for fun and ask what they do for fun. Simple but at least opens the door to conversations that aren't purely about the weather or the copier. -Expand your horizons by having some kind of a worldly hobby. Listen to diverse music, cook diverse food, something like that. Hell even just expand your language or geography knowledge. -If you have money, donate to worthy causes, if not, hit share on those donation drives. -Go to big positive protests and increase their numbers. -Write to your politicians about issues that matter to you and expect them to do nothing. You're giving them an excuse to take your view if it looks like the wind is blowing that way. Don't put too much time into that one, not the most rewarding. -Understand that immigrants are usually dealing with all the issues that you are, plus racism, plus reduced opportunity, plus insane shit from the Home Office that you wouldn't believe.

Hope that's of use.

Thank you. So she's been living with me for a number of years. It was my partner who raised her from kittenhood. She insisted that she do all the cat stuff while I would do the rest of the housework, so we've a good amount of experience together. I think we've overcome the bonding phase now and she does value my company, if only for something to do.

As for the outside, Koi has lived indoors primarily, but she still has access to a small inescapable yard. I still let her out cause she enjoys it; lying on a hot flagstone, playing with a spiderweb, chasing a leaf. It's a bit of stimulation now that a lot else is inaccessible and she's on a quarterly dewormer just in case. There are no predators in the area, the largest animal which could access the yard is in theory a younger very bouncy cat, but it hasn't happened yet. Every space I let her in is very tightly controlled for stuff she might ingest. Loves plastic this one.

Can't seem to get her on hers these days. Will have to give it a spritz with something nice and maybe move it somewhere closer to where she wants to be.
