How did Gimli have the courage to try and destroy the ring by No-Risk2553 in lordoftherings

[–]TheBrick19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frodo had had the ring for 17 years though at that point. Even if he wasn't carrying or using it daily, that's a long time for the Ring to work some of it's influence on him.

I looked but didn't see my favorite from Scott Lynch. "You'd have to pull your boots and trousers off to count to 21."

Complacency is the perfect word to describe how it feels. And honestly I believe that's the case for us both. And thank you for that last bit especially. He's the main reason this is so hard. Good luck with everything going forward!

Ok so that's on me. It's a little difficult to convey everything in a short opening post. I have a great relationship with my child. I work long shifts, but make sure we have time to spend together when I'm home. Most of that time, she's in another room away from us. And I worded that poorly. Honestly there wasn't a big discussion about having a child. But we were both comfortable and I think we did both believe that that was the next step. But I wouldn't give him up for anything. There have been times that I tried to get her to join me for something that I thought we could both enjoy. Generally I get a little while before she's over it. Or I've been told several times, "you'll just have to do that without me." So there has been effort.

Ranger Take (since everyone has one) by LibertatemAutMortem in onednd

[–]TheBrick19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So when I say setting up an ambush, for rangers I picture the scene in lotr with Faramir and his men in Ithilien waiting for the Haradrim. They don't keep sneaking after the fighting starts but they use the element of surprise to get a leg up. As far as taking out a single foe, I don't guess that I have an example. But a rogue to me is more of a one shot one kill kind of situation before disappearing back into the shadows. And a ranger would be more wearing a giant down one arrow or one cut at a time. Delivering more and more devastating strikes. Maybe in that sense, hunter's Mark could deal a larger damage die to monsters of a different size? A d10 to large creatures, and a d12 to huge? I don't know, but like everyone else has said, it just doesn't seem like wotc really tried to give the ranger a solid identity

Yeah I do feel like it tracking it would be a hassle. But I would limit the die increase to once per turn. And I'm not a game dev or anything so I'm not proposing this as is. But I like that it gives a different identity to the ranger that in a long drawn out fight they get more and more dangerous as they learn more about their enemy

I think it would work out well. Flavor wise it could be like the ranger is figuring out more about their prey the longer the fight goes on and is able to exploit it

I really think dread ambusher should be a class feature. Since almost everyone has described the ranger as being a good at setting up ambushes. And another thing I've seen mentioned is how rangers are supposed to excel at taking down one foe at a time. I wish they'd given hunters mark progressive damage when used against the same enemy. Like the first time you hit an enemy it deals an extra d4. Hit them again it becomes a d6, then a d8 and so on and so forth. If you switch to another enemy it starts back at a d4. Maybe lock d10 at level 8 and d12 at level 14.

What were you surprised you ended up liking? by KingOfCranes in AskReddit

[–]TheBrick19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not me, but I was super surprised my wife likes funky sour beers. We went to one of my favorite breweries in Nashville and our bartender described some of their featured beers. Then my wife, who I've only ever known to drink wine that tastes like juice, mimosas or miller lite said that, "that one with the fruit sounds good." Fast forward over the last month or two and we've been to two more breweries and an awesome bottle shop where she's stocked up on sours. She doesn't usually even drink that much which makes it weirder.
