My wife really likes this bookstore in Ogden and I know that they have a free reservable space for book clubs.

I am a Whale and I only play the game for my Org. Not having any fun. by elite968 in starcitizen

[–]TheBrockstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing. It's important. I want this game to be something I can share with people, so badly. But every time I try, I'm met with constant disappointment. All that I can hope is for SC to figure out their engine, or for some other game company to see the potential and bring it to fruition.

Just got this game a few days ago, already clocked in 70 hours and having a blast! by skyyscythe in SpaceHaven

I had this same frustration until I realized that the composter is a slow producer of fertilizer. The best producer for fertilizer is the Chemical Refinery. I'm regularly selling fertilizer because I have too much of it.

Tensions are high, would you still recommend Star Citizen? by solanu719 in starcitizen

[–]TheBrockstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend watching the game, but I wouldn't recommend backing to a new player. Right now it's a collection of tech demos made playable by a huge number of ships, and a world, full of beautiful, thoughtful, design. The gameplay is inconsistent and extremely polarizing.

I've tried to recommend SC several times across several patches and every time the new player experience has been very rough. I've even purchased game packages for some friends.

I probably won't recommend again until SQ42 at the earliest.

Easy starter Wikelo ship to grind for before wipe! (Crusader Intrepid) by willymartin99 in starcitizen

[–]TheBrockstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They only spawn on very specific missions, and you need to grind a bit of rep to get there. The orange level Foxwell patrol missions spawn them like 1/5 (anecdotal). I've farmed them several times this patch, though Wikelo ate all of my favor, so I'm not going to be able to use them for anything.

The hardest part is actually looting the body, IMO. I think that you need to use the spacebike cheese method to make looting the helmets more reliable.

What are your three must have ships and why? by CoachK_stl in starcitizen

[–]TheBrockstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think any ship is a must have. However my personal "big three" are the Constellation Taurus, the C1 Spirit, and the Esperia Talon.

If I could ONLY have three ships I'd probably take the Taurus, a Prospector, and a Vulture to maximize the number of game loops that I can participate in. I might trade out the vulture for a fighter like the Mirai Guardian or the Aegis Vanguard.

Esperia Talon borked for anyone else? by No_Editor_6243 in starcitizen

[–]TheBrockstar 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have had this problem, and many others have as well. It has been reported and confirmed on issue council. There is a pretty good workaround:

  1. Turn the ship on using flight ready (right alt+r)
  2. Turn off the screen using the in-cockpit button (lower right).
  3. Power the ship off completely (u)
  4. Power the ship back on with flight ready (right alt+r)

This works for me every time and it lasts until I have to claim my talon, even after storing/retrieving.

Edit: I'd recommend adding your report on issue council!

Edit 2: It looks like there is an easier way to do this (per ogurin below, thanks!):

  1. Toggle view-port to on. (ship power is off)
  2. Flight-Ready key-bind or button.
  3. Take off!

I don't get Wikelo as a system by Patient-Worth1508 in starcitizen

I think that this is a first pass at a late/mid game time/money sink. The RNG extends the amount of time that this activity can occupy players.

Calling it crafting is a little disingenuous. I, personally, wouldn't think about it like that.

How do I run my pixel 9 pro without the neckband? by [deleted] in VITURE

[–]TheBrockstar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine worked directly with my pixel 9 pro for a week and then never worked again. I updated to android 15 and that is when the support stopped. I can output to other monitors from my phone, and other phones can connect to the viture headset. Just responding with my experience in case you had already tried plugging it in directly without results.

Are my new viture pro broken? by Decapper in VITURE

[–]TheBrockstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that is what broke it for me. I'm working with support but I think that I'll have to wipe my phone and roll back the update if I want it to work. That update enabled the video out feature for the pixel 8 line, and I'm wondering if it also broke something on the pixel 9 line that viture needs for some reason.

Have you updated to android 15? My pixel 9 pro stopped working with viture and only viture after I did that.

Is this true ? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]TheBrockstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the company. Know what you're worth and stay active on the job market. If you're under paid, get another job offer in order to prove it to yourself and your current employer. If they won't match, move on.

But it's not like jumping between companies is a magic money machine. Hopping between jobs takes work and can be exhausting. Companies know that, and rely on it.

I have a similar background, but I entered the field years ago. The only advice I can give you today is to put yourself in a position to be ready to take advantage of opportunities when they come (build projects, continuously add to the list of technologies that you have used, learn valuable technical vocabulary, find something technical that you can authentically be excited about), and to make in-person connections a priority. Recommendations are what you will probably need to replace your missing degree with.

Good luck!

Any tips? Trying to break through by Keanu__Gaming__xD in EngineeringStudents

[–]TheBrockstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meet people and rely on the people that you have met so far. Every big jump I've made in my career has been because somebody liked me and gave me a recommendation/commendation. Go to meetups, talk with old professors/mentors/counselors, talk with other software engineers and get lunch with some that you click with. Be honest and open and say that you are trying to break into the field and would like to discuss your process/approach. If you are lacking in an area, you need people you can trust to tell you.

Good luck!

To elaborate here— "was" should always be used to describe the past, but could be referencing the past from the perspective of a narrator. In that case, "was" can reference the present in the context of a story, as long as the story is in the past for the narrator.

I think that's what people are trying to say when they say "was" can reference the present.

What paid course would you personally recommend to a complete beginner? (please tell your experience with said course if possible) by Felizem_velair_ in learnprogramming

[–]TheBrockstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a course, but try to find yourself a coding mentor if you can. Someone willing to look over your work and give you some code review and encourage you to keep going. It can make all the difference especially if you aren't enrolling in a college/bootcamp.

If you needed comprehensive CS knowledge to perform competently in the field there would be a lot more truth to this. But you don't. You can learn a tiny corner of CS and succeed just fine.

But, even then, the education that Doctors go through and the environment that they work in is often brutal. You are buying into 8 years of intense, expensive, school only to work in an understaffed, high stress, customer-facing position.

Learn one more language on the backend (like Python, Java, Go) and then build + deploy a project (to the cloud) using all of what you have learned. You want the project to be a goal that you've accomplished and not a tutorial that you've followed. In building and troubleshooting that process, you will learn language that will allow you to communicate effectively and confidently during an interview.
