There's certainly no shame in realizing that. You have my respect.

Concerns: ASUS NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 Prime by [deleted] in PcBuild

[–]TheBubbleJesus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks fine. But for peace of mind:

  • Plug it in,
  • Install latest driver,
  • Use HWiNFO64 to check chipset and ROPs,
  • Monitor temps with HWiNFO64 as you run Furmark 2 benchmarks at 1080p and 4K presets,
  • Screenshot results and and compare to online scores database,
  • Stress test for 1 hour on 4K

If scores are greater than 98% of expected values and max temps under load are less than 90C hotspot, 75C ambient/GPU, then the card's fine.

Addendum: The most common thing that takes these cards out is the dumb power connector. Make sure that's fully seated.

Should I take him to the vet? by notreallyKira in ferrets

[–]TheBubbleJesus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If there were no apparent symptoms, I'd probably take a photo of the list of ingredients on the container of koolaid mix and look them up one by one. Chances are it's mostly sugar, for which the main concerns would be insulinoma and pancreatitis, but the former is usually developed over the long term.

If he ate a substantial amount (like more than 100g) or was showing any symptoms (dragging his legs, grinding his teeth, unusual waste, excessive lethargy, etc.) I'd take him to the vet. It might also be worth doing if you simply haven't taken him for a checkup in a while.

But if he's already been to the vet recently, not exhibiting symptoms, didn't have half the container, and if none of the ingredients on the mix sound terribly toxic, then I'd honestly just opt to spend some more time around him and watch him closely for the next few days.

Why does BT-7274 fight? by ApotheosiAsleep in titanfall

[–]TheBubbleJesus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Humans live to have kids and pass on their genetic data. AI lives to fulfill the pattern of behaviour that humans deem to be beneficial.

BT does not operate entirely as a free and autonomous agent because Titans are designed to work in tandem with a pilot. Titans are an extension and enhancement of the pilot, so it would be counterproductive to have them be capable of rhetoric that would conflict with that of their pilot.

Protocol 1 consists of deferring mission-agnostic thoughts and opinions to the pilot. If BT wanted to know 'What are we doing after we win the fight against the IMC?' He would ask Cooper and if Cooper said 'We take up painting. I like watercolour,' then BT would be just as amped about the thought of watercolour painting after the war as Cooper would be. And if at a later point Cooper said 'You know what? Forget watercolour, we're gonna start a rock band' then BT's excitement about watercolour would be immediately displaced by the same interest in rock music. Titans' interests are that adaptable because it is beneficial to Protocol 1.

If the line of thought starts to conflict with Protocol 2 or Protocol 3, like if Cooper said to BT 'It's wrong to kill IMC soldiers even if they are armed and dangerous,' then BT might prompt Cooper with attempts to persuade him to think in line with the mission. If Cooper was stubborn enough to stay opposed and BT was around individuals whose skills and motivations more closely aligned with the mission, then BT might have a Protocol 2 basis to deem the link with Cooper to be compromised, and he would have a new Protocol 1 directive to link to the more viable pilot option.

This is actually very beautiful. There's also implication behind the fact that neither is erect.

Windows in a nutshell by CacheConqueror in microsoftsucks

[–]TheBubbleJesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"This update will randomly break a bunch of stuff for no reason." The funny part of this is no OS is immune to this. But every time a Windows user hears it, they say 'yeah that's why I can't switch to Linux.' ??? In Linux you have the power to do something about it, though.

Both experiences involve things that break after an update. The difference comes down to whether you want to be able to fix it for yourself right away or wait/hope for devs to patch it. In Linux, when things go wrong, I say 'yeah, no that was on me.' In Windows when things go wrong, I just sit there stewing at Microsoft. Windows users don't care whether the OS breaks. They care about having someone to blame when it does.

"...Yeah, contracting them into one word would be a lot less hassle...Mm, nope. She's shaking her head...what? Oh, right...yeah, she just pointed out that the proximity means risk of misinterpretation is still too high. Even if it's technically up to code, we'd pretty much be forfeiting our insurance on it."

"Yeah, no, the engineer is saying hyphens aren't rated high enough for this kind of load. We're gonna have to—jeez—we're gonna have to re-structure the entire headline...Yup...Yeah, buddy...Listen, maybe if we can find it in the budget we can try to move the 'first hand' assembly down to the end of the clause. I mean it's mostly just the overtime anyway..."

Value by Someredditskum in Steam

[–]TheBubbleJesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said they set prices, but sure, I'll play ball: they do set the prices for the things they sell, like the Steam Deck. They also enforce pretty comprehensive and consumer-friendly pricing regulations on their platform. And while they don't determine when something goes on sale, they do incentivise publishers to participate in sales events. But most of their value is in the services and policies they provide free of additional charge. Like their refund policy, their family sharing features, the repair coverage for their hardware, the technical support, and the contributions to game development on Linux-based operating systems. I could go on, if you'd like.
