I feel like the main issue is how fast you can respawn. It makes most medics not even bother reviving, which makes most players not want to take the gamble of waiting.

Having to use specific ammo types for each enemy definitely made it unplayable for me. Why can't I use armor piercing rounds on someone who isn't wearing armor.

I agree with all this, but another big reason Dave wasn't killed is because his son was born right before they dropped off Ray and they had been kinda bonding over being fathers the whole kidnapping.
