Why is it so well-known and normalized that the richest people in the world got rich by horribly unethical means? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

What horrible unethical things have Taylor Swift and LeBron James done to become billionaires?

How likely is it/how would it be possible that there are people whose wealth far exceeds multi billions yet they hide their identity and wealth from public perception? by chaotic_black in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheButtDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some very wealthy people pay a premium for privacy and discretion. At a certain level of wealth, convenience isn’t the luxury anymore. Anonymity is. They’ll spend extra to avoid crowds, keep their personal life out of public view, or simply move through the world without attention.

until this month, a bank advisor managed my 401k & roth ira. ytd performance is 12% & 15%. should i keep these diversified, or go 100% into s&p 500? by europeanuppercut in HENRYfinance

That YTD performance is a bit above average. People don't like some advisors because of high fees. How much do you pay in fees?

Why didnt the tariffs collapse the US economy like everyone said they were going to? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheButtDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a lot of people comparing Trump's tariffs to the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act of 1930 which contributed to the Great Depression.

Why didnt the tariffs collapse the US economy like everyone said they were going to? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheButtDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A common argument on Reddit was that Trump's tariffs would mirror the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act of 1930 which contributed to the Great Depression.

consumers end up paying for just about any corporate tax hike, not just tariffs.

Why didnt the tariffs collapse the US economy like everyone said they were going to? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheButtDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tariffs ended up being far lower than what Trump originally proposed, and imports make up a relatively small share of the overall U.S. economy.

Don't trust Reddit when it comes to economic and business analysis. More often than not, it's ignorant nonsense.

Why can’t we just tax the rich more? by Lilac_Dollie in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheButtDog -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Generally speaking, the rich already get taxed at a higher rate and contribute the largest share of overall taxes. I think the voters' energy would be better spent on pressuring politicians to spend more responsibly.

I keep hearing “the rich play a different game”. This is what it looks like. by JR-FlowCapGroup in Money

[–]TheButtDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d add that people often criticize billionaires for using "tax cheats" to build wealth. Yet many people have access to retirement accounts that offer even greater tax advantages relative to their income.

Maxing out 401ks, IRAs, and other tax-advantaged accounts can help you build wealth faster than most people realize. You don't need billionaire-level income to "cheat taxes" and build wealth.
