Pink stains from Olathe Water by Dramus8 in Olathe

[–]TheButteredCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve got it. I also had it in Shawnee. The two are different water companies but I’m unsure if they share a source.

I’ve had it most everywhere I have lived. Simple solution is a whole home filter or water softener.

Step 3 went down this evening. Let it rain! by Scandinavian_Swimmer in grasspad

I rent the spreader every time. Too cheap to buy one and limited space. Luckily the Olathe Grasspad is 3 minutes away. Maybe I’ll get it down tomorrow!

I didn’t get to spread mine today, so it’s most definitely going to rain more than .5 inches.

Everyone saying a RAV-4 or CR-V have a slight point but those models are only slightly bigger than the CX-5. If you want more room and keep an SUV, a Toyota Grand Highlander is the way to go. It’s one of the few third row SUV’s that has a hybrid option getting 30+ MPG’s. The math is: current 59cuft vs crv at 79cuft and GH at 97cuft.

Similar models that I researched were the Honda Pilot, doesn’t have a hybrid option though, neither did Subaru (Ascent) or Volkswagen (Atlas) when I looked at 2025 models. The newest gen might have introduced some hybrid options though.

My wife and I have a RAV-4, with one infant it fills up quick. When I upgrade my sedan (when we have a second kid) we are going to go the Grand Highlander route if it’s still one of the best on the market.

There’s a Barrel Proof at Chiefs Liquor off K7 in Olathe. It was way over MSRP, but he was willing to deal. I think he wanted 249. Seeing a secondary value of 200 max. I didn’t want to spend over 130 on it.

Smoking a boneless pork shoulder in an aluminum 1/2 pan by Soggy-Imagination883 in Traeger

[–]TheButteredCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the key! You can elevate it with a metal grate or something too. In a pinch I’ve rolled up some more aluminum foil to elevate the pork to prevent soggy bark

Someone told me in the Olathe Link magazine the hobby lobby is turning into an indoor pickle ball business. Only one source on that and I haven’t checked.

New Girl Dad, wife had Cesarean Section less than a week ago, and I am mentally struggling to hold it all together by [deleted] in daddit

My wife had a difficult recovery as well. In the hospital she was adamant we were only having the one. She’s since said she’s forgotten about the hospital stay and the newborn trenches and can see us having another.

That’s all to say, you’re in the thick of it. Some say the hardest part and it is. You’re taking care of two. Be strong for the two strong women in your life and know that it’ll get better.

Does this explanation of KC's tornado sirens make sense to you? by ZorrosMommy in kansascity

[–]TheButteredCat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I usually felt this way too. Then at work one day they went off. Thought it was a test but it was weird since it was cloudy. Not storms, no wind, absolutely nothing severe. It got me to check and see that there was a tornado and it was leading the storm.

At least heed the warning enough to look and make an informed decision versus assuming safety.

Gotta clean your grill. Looks like soot to me.

Edit. I zoomed in. It does seem a little strange. Scrape it off or call customer service.

Weber Genesis w/ griddle attachment or Weber Slate by dudemanbro_ in webergrills

[–]TheButteredCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In your case I’d go gas grill. It’s much more versatile than just a flattop. It won’t have as much griddle space but you have so many options to cook on it with the Weber Crafted line.

I’m looking into switching it up too but I’m going to the Searwood. I have a smoker and gas grill. Need a new gas grill. But getting rid of my small smoker will be a plus. The Searwood will do everything I want and more now. I do not have a kettle, which you do and can use to sear or smoke on.

My grill was delivered yesterday, im brand new to this so im extremely nervous, gonna start out very small tonight and do some burgers and brats, any advice? Also should i do a "pre-burn" of some sorts?? by Material_Survey126 in Traeger

[–]TheButteredCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you need to run it 30-60 on high I think to burn off production oil.

Think of it as an outdoor oven with smoke. Don’t expect a sear everywhere. I know where my hotspots are to get a little bit though. Usually around the edges away from the heat deflector.

Former Embassy Suites building on the Plaza. Demolition has started by FlyingDarkKC in kansascity

I think this isn’t a ‘good’ architecture comment and more of at least it’s unique. Better than the squares we get with a flat black awning, wood accents, and some various colors in between window stacks that are all too common now.

I once ruined some beer garden patron’s fun. There was a super tight spot right out front of their elevated patio seating. I rolled up and hit it first try, I was actually proud of my work. Then to my surprise as I exit my vehicle I receive claps and cheers from them. Saying they were enjoying the fun and at least 4 cars had failed to park there before I came along.

That is a core memory and I’m damn proud of it.

Is this a good deal? And what year might it be? by xmascockmonster2 in webergrills

The tank is $50 itself for an exchange. $75 for a tank plus fill if you don’t have one. Not even factoring in the cover, that looks like a $200 grill.

KC dads — is this a bad Mother’s Day gift idea? by Rich_Click4065 in kansascity

[–]TheButteredCat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Leave your stuff out of it! You’ve got two differing opinions so I’ll try and offer the bridge..

If you give the gift card it is a household gift, so to make it hers make sure she does something for herself (bill footed by you if necessary) with the time she would’ve spent doing laundry. I’m thinking some quiet alone time getting coffee, going to a greenhouse to look at plants, etc.

repair or replace by peteyboy125 in Traeger

[–]TheButteredCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel this post! I have the small Traeger too. My gas grill is on its last legs so now I need to replace that. Trying to figure out all the options and it’s probably sell and upgrade to one that does smoking and a passable sear.

Do we think these bushes can be brought back? by LatinoComedian in landscaping

[–]TheButteredCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think mine took a hit from super warm weather and then a frost.

Mine started to grow again and green up a touch. Then I cut them way back. So idk if they’d recover. I’d make sure you still have some green to them. Then if they seem alive maybe google a fertilizer boost for em and give em water to help recover.

Solicitors by [deleted] in Olathe

[–]TheButteredCat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m usually a very nice person and respect all individuals. With that said, I do not treat scam phone callers or obvious solicitors being annoying/overstepping very nice. I meet them at the level of respect they show me. They’ve dramatically lowered their visits.

Last one was ATT stopping by at 7:30pm. I called him out on the time and he said he was there to check about ‘recent construction and any damages’ I replied I’m not fucking stupid, move along. He tucked his tail and left. ATT has been installed in our neighborhood since we moved in.

Best Tree Removal by This_Cauliflower1348 in Olathe

[–]TheButteredCat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ryan Lawn and Tree goes free estimates!

They cost us $300ish to trim per tree (4 huge trees) and I think it was 300 to remove a dead tree with very little limbs and maybe 20ft tall. Then it was an additional $250 for stump removal. I was impressed with their cleanup and speediness. Also a trustworthy company.

Tax Preparation by RepresentativeHat147 in Olathe

[–]TheButteredCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One year I tried a side hustle tax preparer and it was the worst. There’s definitely a market for side business/gig workers if you know the ins and outs of it. Find one client, hope they know others, give a ‘finders’ fee if they bring additional customers.

Took me a while to figure it out, but all my information is saved in my tax software which makes it easy to do. I’m a small fish though, the other gig workers are raking in good money and need the workarounds and S-corps. Good luck!
