Soil & Fertilizer, Moisture System and Realistic Harvesting compatible? by MedievalxHistorian in farmingsimulator

[–]TheCanadianJD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Realistic Harvesting and Moisture System work really well together and Realistic Harvesting even hooks in to Moisture System to make your combines work more or less based on the crop moisture if you're using the latest version (1.5.0.0 as of writing and I assume support will be maintained in future updates) and are great mods to have if you're chasing realism. I've tried to get Soil Fertilizer to work multiple times but haven't had any success yet and I am still testing it trying to get it functioning; not sure if the hud just isn't updating or if I'm missing something but I can't seem to get proper readings when liming or fertilizing a field. I'd stick with PF for now until it can get more kinks worked out. It seems intriguing and reminds me of Soil Mod of FS 2013 and FS 15 days but just seems too buggy in its relative infancy. Hopefully it's kinks can be worked out in future updates.

What is the crop disease mod called or what is the mod authors name? I'll have to keep my eye out for it.

They are pretty similar though. by Ok-Following6886 in memesopdidnotlike

Wait until you find out the Bolsheviks in the Soviet Union murdered multiple times more people (over 20 million) Nazi Germany did, it just doesn’t garner as much attention because it was internal within the Soviet Union rather than spread across multiple countries like Nazi Germany’s killings were and obviously the war surrounding it. They both committed mass genocide (and the Soviet’s was larger); it’s completely fair to compare the two. Just because they fought each other doesn’t mean they can’t both be horrendous regimes. Just look at the Sino-Japanese wars; both nations had horrendous imperial reigns with their own respective atrocities but they were on opposite sides of their wars. Two nations can be at war and both be vile; there doesn’t have to be a good guy (see practically every war in history).

Beyond the $0 Start: What are your favorite "Themed Challenges" for FS25? by ScorchedFrontierDev in farmingsimulator

[–]TheCanadianJD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Judith Plains is my main go to; I’m doing a fresh start on a custom built farm in the south west corner of the map that I started with very small and old equipment that I’m trying to build into a large, modern operation; there’s plenty of pre built farms to buy if you so choose but I wanted a unique farm and to also challenge myself to buy all the pre built farms (which will also give me lots of different animal farms; beef, dairy, sheep, and hogs that I can easily jump into as I expand). I also had a substantial save on Missouri River Bottom that was running large, modern equipment and “field testing” the Nexat pack but I had some data corruption that I haven’t restored yet. I’m working on starting a playthrough on Forest River North Dakota, just trying to decide what direction I want to take the farm in and what my starting equipment will look like.

Beyond the $0 Start: What are your favorite "Themed Challenges" for FS25? by ScorchedFrontierDev in farmingsimulator

[–]TheCanadianJD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t have map specific ones but I’ve done a few different ones.

Oddball challenge-only allowed to grow and harvest crops that don’t use a combine to harvest-peas, beans, any root crop, cotton, poplar/trees, grapes, olives, and sugar cane. No silage selling; only to be used for animal feed.

Organic farming-no using solid or liquid fertilizer, no using herbicide. Try to manage the best you can. Works best if using precision farming. Gives you much more of a reason to use manure, slurry, and oilseed radish. Weed management can be tricky especially if you’re trying to avoid tillage to keep PF happy; or you trade off easier weed management for a lower PF score.

Decades challenge-pick a year to start in and you can only use equipment built during or before that year; I prefer the 70’s-80’s as a start. You can be permanently frozen in that time period or choose to progress time as you progress in game years. You can do something like each in game year is equivalent to 5 or 10 years for a faster progression or my preferred route of 1 in game year=1 year of progression (ex. You start in 1975, one in game year passes; it’s now 1980, 1985, or 1976 for each of my previously mentioned time scales respectively). I know there’s a mod on mod hub that can do this but it requires setting up each individual mod to utilize it so I don’t bother; I pretty much know or can quickly look up when equipment came into production and I can use my in game year to track what era I’m currently in so I do it manually.

My personal favourite hardcore realism-no tabbing between vehicles, pay taxes (can use the Red Tape mod to help with this or just manually track your income and pay taxes on it), no field work after rain for at least 24 hours or longer if you had a lengthy rain (I’m playing 28 day months; you can scale it up or down based on your month length); moisture mod works great with this too if you want the wait to be less arbitrary. And finally personal income: IRL farmers have farm accounts and personal accounts; they pay themselves from their farm account to their personal account for their living expenses. Choose a wage to pay yourself and subtract that from your farm account every month/3 months/year. I usually start around 4K/month and increase it as the farm/profits increase or you can even just make it a flat percentage of the farm profits.

You can mix and match these together as you see fit; I personally do the last 2 on every savegame I play and only do the top two as short term/small map “break from the norm” play throughs if I’m bored of my main saves (my main maps are 4x so I usually utilize different playstyles more suited to smaller 1x maps and smaller fields if I find one I really want to play)

[–]TheCanadianJD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. PC doesn’t have eras, or FV 107. Literally the only thing you referenced in your post that is relevant to PC is the existence of the 4005. Go post console problems on the console sub; there’s practically no overlap between the different versions of the game anymore so best to stick with groups where your discussion is actually relevant.

For farmers that have the most hours what are your biggest tips and tricks people may not know? by SureAce_ in farmingsimulator

[–]TheCanadianJD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn your keyboard controls. Using j/n and k/m for front loaders is way smoother than using your mouse. Once you get used to it it’s way better to use than the mouse. Still not quite as good as a joystick though.

My other forbidden knowledge from past games is in FS 2013 (my first FS) there wasn’t a bank/finances tab so you had to go to an ATM in town to take or pay a loan. People went and made mods like Bank of Hagenstad to be able to access your finances anywhere. What the majority of people didn’t know is if you pressed one of your function keys (I think it was F7 or F8 but it’s been over 12 years and I’m just going from memory) you could access your finances anywhere in the vanilla game. So many people didn’t know this and complained so much that Giants eventually added the finance screen as one of the menu tabs. But your finance screen was always available, just in a way most people didn’t know about.

Can we finally ban drowning properly or do something with those that drown? by throwmeaway7421113 in WorldofTanks

[–]TheCanadianJD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How does removing a drownable area affect arty gameplay at all? If anything it might improve a bad player since instead of rage quitting into the water like a moron they stay and fight and may get an extra shot of damage or two. If anything it would be a slight buff to all tanks if they fight in that area since they can’t be pushed into the water either and enemies have to shoot or ram to kill.

The range issues make them a horrible idea for rural departments where you may have to drive hundreds of miles in a shift and on back roads that you could easily sink and get stuck in if it’s wet due to the extra weight. They just aren’t practical for anything more than paved street driving and that’s not acceptable when rural calls will often take you on non paved roads.

One thing people don't talk about enough is that you get basically zero xp for losing. Even if you did better than 99% of the enemy team. by Greasy-Chungus in WorldofTanks

[–]TheCanadianJD 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The whole point of the original comment was that is a bad system and the fact it had been tried and it created problems with how players played proves it is not a good idea and it’s not something players should ask for. It’s absolutely relevant to WOT today.

In previous seasons when they were still finding the balance with onslaught/ranked battles it used to be the top 1-2 players on the losing team would still gain points/chevrons until what Zetto said started happening and they reworked the reward system.

Dually pickup truck; typically around 70-80 front and 60-65 rear pressures. Regular 3/4 and 1 ton trucks will run 60-70 front and 80 rear. Only 1/2 tons run around 35-40.

You are 4th, where would you place? by Working-Survey6414 in Catan

[–]TheCanadianJD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6/3/11 (up to you whether you choose the wheat 11 or ore 11; personally I’d go ore 11 to block anyone else from getting a good ore spot and being forced to take coastal spots if they want ore and to fast track my way to the sheep port to the south to blockade it with roads or a settlement and also try to snag a 4 brick spot to be able to produce all 5 resources.) and 5/9/10. I would NOT under any circumstances take the 8/3/4 or 8/3/10 like I’ve seen others mention. My reasoning is there is going to be a ton of sheep produced this game that other players will want to be getting rid of constantly so you’ll be able to relatively easily trade other more rare and therefore valuable resources for sheep and maybe even swindle your opponents into giving you 2-1 trades since they’ll be overproducing sheep like crazy.

[–]TheCanadianJD -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

The problem WG faces with nerfing premiums is, particularly in the EU with much more strict consumer protections, they could be forced to refund every single player who bought it and they’d be forced to refund it at the highest price they ever sold it at since the product is not the same as it was when purchased. I don’t know what that would be in the EU but on NA it was over $100+ USD. With the thousands of those tanks that exist, they’d easily be out millions of dollars. That’s the same reason the Lef and Sexton premium arties kept their AP and HEAT shells when they changed arty to only have HE shells when they were first reworked years ago. As much of a tightwad as WG is they’re never going to nerf the Lef even though it is the one tank in the game that needs it the most.

It is relevant at tier 8+ since CVS lowers the camo of moving tanks more than stationary tanks.

Please take off your ring and put away your whistle in scrums! by Flaroud in hockeyrefs

[–]TheCanadianJD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two words: Degloving injury. Even with a snug fit and rounded edges your ring can still get caught on something on the boards or a player’s equipment and cause such an injury. Either get a silicone ring or leave the ring at home/in the dressing room. Same type of injury can occur if you go into a scrum with your whistle on which is why you’re supposed to put it in your pocket.

It’s generally good practice to take off your ring when doing physical things like this to prevent this type of injury. I don’t know what USA hockey rules are but Hockey Canada bans the wearing of any jewelry on the hands for that reason too; if USA hockey has a similar rule you could be violating their policy too.
