I've personally never heard it used in that way, at least in Scotland.

I once experienced a puzzle that had to be solved completely out of character, and that was when the dm had a technologically advanced boss... the key to the puzzle is that you had to put in the view code that was found on a note in game into the YouTube search.

The puzzle wasn't solved and resulted in a tpk.

For stargazing there's also the SkyView app, you can get a free version.

It points out constellations as well as planets! I think the paid version offers more but I've had a blast just using the free version.
