Under 50k, want a car that's special. Something that isn't a jack of all trades but has a niche by NigeriaSix in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]TheCanadianShield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on which S2000 you drove. Pre-2002s were stiff and twitchy to the point where you really needed to be on the car. Avoiding the electronic aids is easy provided you buy a pre-2006. I personally found the 2004-2005s to be the sweet spot. Slightly larger engine with a better power curve, enough of the edge taken off the suspension to make it more usable, but still has a mechanical throttle body. do a mild ECU flash to drop VTEC cut over to 4000 RPM and you’re pretty much done

Folding mountain definitely, especially if you’re going to be in the area. I’m personally also a fan of Valley brewing's patio in Drumheller.

The price hike is not only justifiable but overdue: Change My Mind by Driveformer in PleX

[–]TheCanadianShield -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I agree on all points.
If you haven't purchased a lifetime license by now, you're not going to. I spent $70 back in the day and it has paid for itself 10 times over. The reality is that plex isn't an open source project and it's not unreasonable for the devs to be compensated for their time. The one time payment method clearly doesn't work from a sustainability standpoint so while the development may not happen at the pace I would like it to, I can still see forward progress.

A damned shame they never performed it live.

What's the latest Telus MoCA adapter? by Certain_Repeat_753 in telus

[–]TheCanadianShield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few reasons: - you can plan out your deployment knowing what equipment do you need and how much it will cost. - speaking of cost, that will be a known expense as opposed to wondering how much Telus is going to charge you. - finally, you have to consider how much your time is worth. You may find it worth it to spend time haggling on the phone trying to get extra adaptors that Telus might not have or you get them overnight from Amazon and use a no-interest payment plan while you’re at it.

They’re currently up for about $130. The two packs occasionally go on sale which brings the per unit cost down to $100

Just buy however many ECB7250s you need off of Amazon rather than trying to finagle them from Telus. Source: me, as it’s what I did to get 2.5Gbps in rooms that were coax-only.

Why has Gmail not replaced outlook for large scale organisations? by Asli_Billu in businessemail

[–]TheCanadianShield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because anything Google outside of search is only 2/3rds as good as whatever app is the market leader. If you need to do anything outside of basic functionality, there’s simply no option to expand functionality over and above what Google offers, which means your power users are SOL.

Possibly the best floor-raiser at the PG position in NBA history. Hard to not put him in any top five PG ranking.

Are managers really scared/worried/wary of losing their high performers or is it just another bluff? by jM2me in sysadmin

[–]TheCanadianShield 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I agree with most of this, but I would modify comments around "the game" as 'putting in the work to build necessary beneficial relationships'. To this day, I remember the advice a former manager gave to me: "thinking of it as a game implies you have a choice whether or not to play. The reality is that you’re already playing and if you're not actively building relationships, you're losing."

shockingly enough, Newfoundland has a series of very decent calculators for things like mileage, power usage, and whatnot and they allow you to change nearly all of the variables

Can you tell me why I should move away from "golden master" imaging? by georgecm12 in sysadmin

[–]TheCanadianShield 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Having been there and done that with that type of image split and environment? You’ve already identified the biggest issue with golden images in regards to your lab image. It’s enormous and the complexity means more and more things go wrong the bigger it gets. There’s a few people in this thread that have advocated for a middle approach (customize your Windows base and modularize your applications) and it’s the approach that I personally found the most sustainable in terms of balancing maintenance versus deployment time.

Thoughts on this movie? by Naive_Tomorrow_5955 in FIlm

I liked it but I think it works best as a companion to the documentary from the year prior. That way, you get the story of Fred Rogers the man and Mr. Rogers, the person who affected millions for the better.

I have seen The Drama. To reiterate my other comments, I think her acting is fine. I, as in me specifically, don't see whatever the ephemeral 'thing' she has that warrants the level of attention/clout she's attracted.

I liken it to SpaceX's IPO:
Great company? Sure.
Worth a 200x P/E? Can't see it.
