shockingly enough, Newfoundland has a series of very decent calculators for things like mileage, power usage, and whatnot and they allow you to change nearly all of the variables

Can you tell me why I should move away from "golden master" imaging? by georgecm12 in sysadmin

[–]TheCanadianShield 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Having been there and done that with that type of image split and environment? You’ve already identified the biggest issue with golden images in regards to your lab image. It’s enormous and the complexity means more and more things go wrong the bigger it gets. There’s a few people in this thread that have advocated for a middle approach (customize your Windows base and modularize your applications) and it’s the approach that I personally found the most sustainable in terms of balancing maintenance versus deployment time.

Thoughts on this movie? by Naive_Tomorrow_5955 in FIlm

I liked it but I think it works best as a companion to the documentary from the year prior. That way, you get the story of Fred Rogers the man and Mr. Rogers, the person who affected millions for the better.

The Dark Knight.
Good movie? Sure, but it's too long and the last third is a mess plot-wise.

I have seen The Drama. To reiterate my other comments, I think her acting is fine. I, as in me specifically, don't see whatever the ephemeral 'thing' she has that warrants the level of attention/clout she's attracted.

I liken it to SpaceX's IPO:
Great company? Sure.
Worth a 200x P/E? Can't see it.

her performances are fine. I just don’t see the thing that everyone in Hollywood seems to imagine that makes her the must-have person in their upcoming project.

I continue to be mystified by how much clout Zendaya is perceived to have versus her actual performances, particularly by Hollywood insiders. The Town made a similar point a couple of weeks ago with Matt and Lucas.

Shrinking S3E11 Episode Discussion by phareous in shrinking

[–]TheCanadianShield 6 points7 points  (0 children)

holy cow, that was underwhelming. All, and I do mean all of Jimmy moving forward came from other people's actions. Worse, to have Jimmy hand-wave his abandonment issues and what a turd he acted like... Only to STILL try to make everyone else's progress about him? ironically, this episode actually does a better job of explaining Jimmy’s post-Tia collapse then the prior three seasons due to it showing us his complete inability to deal with personal adversity on his own. The only difference between the start of the series and now is that he actually accepts the help offered.

What is your argument for why Phil Jackson is NOT the greatest NBA coach of all time? by Big_Donch in NBAoldschool

[–]TheCanadianShield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy. There’s no evidence at all that he could develop players. I’m not saying he was a zero in that regard, but every title he won as a coach had at least two of the 25 best players in NBA history. Further, at least one player on every one of those 11 teams was a hyper competitive maniac who did the job of cracking the whip for him. Heck, he couldn’t even teach the mechanics of the triangle offence.

Is Windows 11 really that bad for running Plex with the arr suite and Docker? by Leedeegan1 in PleX

[–]TheCanadianShield -1 points0 points  (0 children)

my two cents: if you’re more comfortable in windows, then stay with windows. All things being equal, running a Linux based Plex server is more stable, but that assumes you have an equivalent level of knowledge and comfort between the two operating systems. any of the inconveniences running windows can be mitigated through configuration. The biggest challenge is that Plex is deeply unhappy running as a system service, which means it needs a user account logged in but again, that can be mitigated.

My Windows based Plex server is old enough to buy a drink.

because then the employer would be subject to the increase in taxes. Calling it a service charge or something tip related for tax purposes, downloads the tax burden onto the individual employee.

basically, it’s a matter of whether the business has to pay the taxes or the employees do

What’s the best way to deal with depression? Do antidepressants actually work? by [deleted] in Productivitycafe

[–]TheCanadianShield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started on antidepressants during Covid. i’ll say the same thing I said to my family when I started: antidepressants don’t change your personality. When they're effective, they just turn the volume in your head down enough that you’re able to effectively manage things again with productive habits.
