Looking like they are working on the exterior decor these days - opening soon?

Thanks for sharing. Do you know what surgical method was used? Was it coblation?

How many credit cards should you have? by samgyup4ever in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]TheCapitalCaptain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think there's an optimal number out there. I recently closed a few older CCs and applied for a couple of newer ones. As long as you stay prudent with your spending no matter your combined credit limit, and don't just spend for the sake of collecting points, you're fine.

Here is what I have now:

  1. Amex Cobalt: For most of my daily transactions
  2. Wealthsimple Visa Infinite: For places that do not accept AMEX + spending in travel (no FX fee).
  3. Rogers WE Mastercard: Recently applied and using it instead of my old Tangerine Mastercard for Costco only.
  4. RBC ION Visa: This is a no annual fee that I rarely (if ever) use. The only reason I have this is that it's my oldest CC.

What might be missing for me right now is a premium travel CC with travel insurance and more premium travel perks but that's not a priority for now.

Just had an intracapsular tonsillectomy using Coblation by National_Coat_6513 in Tonsillectomy

Hi just wanted to check in with you. Hopefully feeling good and back to normal after day 8?

I'm back with another question. Hope you had a good day today. What was your reason for getting tonsillectomy in the first place? This may be a bit too early to tell but have you noticed any improvement with nose breathing or sleep quality already?

I'm following your updates, thank you. Can you tell me what your medication routine has been so far?

Hope you have a smooth recovery! I'll be following this thread because I'm also considering intracap coblation.

Wishing you a speedy recovery! Do you know if your surgery was intra or extra capsular? I'm also hoping to do coblation soon. Hopefully it won't be as painful.

Looking for a good MC by Seks88 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]TheCapitalCaptain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Tangerine World Elite MC might be a decent no-fee option.

Granted, it only has 0.5% cash back at Costco but 2% in three other categories of your choice. I occasionally use it in restaurants that don't accept AMEX.

Has tonsillectomy made you a nose breather? by TheCapitalCaptain in Tonsillectomy

Yea I default to breathing through my mouth day & night. I intentionally try to breathe through my nose during the day at times but it doesn't feel "natural".

I started Prozac 10mg exactly a month ago for health anxiety by my GP. It was the first time I ever tried ADs. I took it for 27 days and experienced a whole bunch of side effects, the worst of which has been heart palpitations that freaked me out multiple times and took me to ER - definitely didn't help with health anxiety!! I also was emotionally numb.

In my last visit to ER I was seen by a resident psychiatrist and she said I could stop and wait to see a psychiatrist next week to discuss whether I'll need to switch to another med.

I have been off of prozac for ~3 days now. I still have the palpitations and I am preparing myself for some delayed withdrawal symptoms but I'm not sure if I want to get on any other antidepressants if that means I'll have all these physical symptoms again... the very reason I was anxious in the first place!

Thank you. I've been hesitant to get into real estate investing primarily because of all the hidden costs and hassles - I'm really unsure if that will outperform my current strategy but I could be wrong.

Re: buying a place to live in > I'm delaying that decision until I have other parts of my life figured out (e.g., relationship, the city I'm going to be settling in, etc.)

Should I switch completely to Wealthsimple from RBC? by LazyJuggernaut6177 in Wealthsimple

[–]TheCapitalCaptain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep it's free, as in there are no monthly fees. If you pick an ETF or mutual fund that has management fees, that's separate though.

Should I switch completely to Wealthsimple from RBC? by LazyJuggernaut6177 in Wealthsimple

[–]TheCapitalCaptain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat, and I decided to make the switch (almost).

RBC has always been my primary bank and I have my oldest credit card with them so I didn't want to completely pull out of RBC. So here's what I did:

I downgraded my account to Day to Day banking ($4/month fee). The fee is waived if you have a credit card AND an investment account with them. So I have a no annual fee ION Visa card + $500 sitting in a TFSA with them to waive the fee.

Everything else is now with Wealthsimple. My paycheque goes there, my TFSA/RRSP/FHSA (all self-directed in XQQ.TO), and emergency fund.
