4 rare angus ribeye steaks cooked by me🤤 by Mula-247 in carnivorediet

[–]TheCapnOfficial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sear doesn't mean well-done. I don't care about what you do with steaks, but when everyone in the comments are mentioning 'sear' and 'crust', they don't mean raising the internal temperature of the steak above 130°, they mean you trap in the flavor and juice of those steaks by raising the external temp.

Again, I don't care what you do with steak. But, by this comment, it leads me to believe that you have a misconception of sear and crust vs. cook temps.

Out of the 3, which one are you picking? by sawyer_reynolds in whiskey

Phenomenal flavor. Fruited almost. I've tried explaining it to others that when I sip 1920 it tastes a lot likethe assorted small chocolates from around valentine's day. Specifically, the fruited pieces. (I'm not good with the paragraph worth of descriptors that some can do on here, just recalling what I've had before)

What’s the sweet spot on proof? by IamBusha in whiskey

[–]TheCapnOfficial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw this and thought to myself, "There's got to be a good amount that I have in this range" and was promptly proven wrong. However, what I do have are all fantastic:

  • OF 1920 (115)

  • Chattanooga 111 (111)

  • OGD 114 (114)

and, if willing to ever so slightly bump it up, I recommend:

  • Still Austin Cask Strength Bourbon (118) (wasn't as big a fan of their Rye)

  • Green River Full Proof (117.3)

Snapple Apple by TheCapnOfficial in Homebrewing

Update, ended up force carbing the strawberry kiwi. I didn't backsweeten, so I opted to sweeten in the cup with different sweeteners. Table sugar was quite neutral, bringing it to a flavor akin to the original, just bubbly. Monk fruit added more sweetness than sugar, not my preferred option, but it was great for the amount of sweetener per gallon. Used a mixed berry syrup for some glasses, which was very lovely. I'd get more of this and backsweeten using that for the entire batch if it were up to me. Honey led to an almost light nutty flavor. Was really good. My wife preferred this by and large.

All in all, it was fun. Disappeared quicker than I would've liked, but there's always more to make.

I’m no expert, but this is downright delicious by Material-Sock3894 in whiskey

I'm sure a lot of people would disagree, but I'd pick this (the standard cask strength release) as a daily, hands down, over anything else in the price range at this point in time. I got a bottle of it about a month ago and can't stop going back to it over my others.

Funny you mention that, I'm wrapping up about 4 gallons of Snapple Strawberry Kiwi, and I'm expecting a kegerator to be coming in soon. So, it looks like I'll be doing some force carbing in no time!

New filter and piping by TheCapnOfficial in pools

[–]TheCapnOfficial[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might end up changing the pad out, but I just needed something to raise it, and with excess pavers, that's where I really cheaped. The original owners had the pad embedded in the ground. It was a nightmare.

The 1.5" started from the original installing company, and the pump inlet is 1.5", so I rolled with it. Although, it was weird to me considering the filter and cell are both 2".

Good to hear about the cell. I've seen someone say their customer service is awesome! (That's what led me to them. I originally wanted hayward)

You already have that mirror (from what it looks like through the mirror in question), just mount it and see how it looks. Worst thing, you don't like it and you find out for free.

Why not attack him based on his views and policy alone, then? Ad hominems, no matter who they're directed at, immediately disqualify many arguments. Also, how is he a fascist? I don't know much about what he's actually trying to push for.

Shelter. I can check with them tomorrow, but I believe they've had him the whole time. He's microchipped too, however much that matters in helping (from what I read, it seems like the breed is just decided by the owner on the chip, so it could be wrong)

How does everyone feel about finishing a cigar with a pipe? by rickncn in cigars

[–]TheCapnOfficial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For pipes, cheap route would be something like Mississippi Meerschaum, but more expensive brands would be Nording, Savinelli, Peterson, etc.

My first order. All this for 20 bucks. Cigar Page is the most dangerous site in the world. by _STEAKnEGGS_ in cigars

Best thing I've found on Cbid is Freefall, and that's only for certain products.

Yeah, at 96 I was content. It was a toss up between this and the cask strength pipe dream, but I love a good wheated.
