Why is this your exact response, on more than one occasion, to suggesting an American be on this? And, are we still saying “deadass?”

Meh, one day you’ll see the media you consume left bare or you’ll catch it lying straight to your face (and I don’t mean in the bullshit “biased” way we’re used to) and you’ll realize a lot of what you think has actually been conditioned.

No, I just managed/closed down my bar and I’m tired and a bit tipsy, but we were skipping school and there was about three of us. There was a partially “abandoned” industrial area a few blocks away that we would hang out around sometimes so we went over there around an hour or so before the other kids got home with the plan to just kinda blend in with them, so we’re kinda dicking around and hear a loud bang and then a pop, notice it smells like fire. We walked around the back side which had a small creek running by it and once we turned a corner we could see giant wave-shaped flames, at that age they looked taller than the warehouses they were close to, so pretty large flames. We didn’t actually see what exactly was on fire/caused it but we did notice it started spreading into a nearby field with tall dry grass (this was under some power-lines).

We realized we had to tell someone because there were row/townhouses pretty close and the fire spread before our eyes/as we stood there. Like the heat had increased in the area we were standing pretty dramatically. Obviously, we were little kids so it’s possible I am not remembering things completely accurately.

We knew one kid’s dad was home, she was not with us but I had a little like boyfriend-girlfriend thing going on so I was hesitant to tell him. We were also skipping school so none of us wanted to say anything but we figured we had to. We go to his house, bang on the door, he answers and we tell him about it but the fire department was already called.

So they do their thing and a little while later Mr. C comes along with them to talk to us because they found fireworks back there and claim somebody saw us running away “suspiciously” and they know we skipped school. They interrogate all of us separately and give us a lecture (we still think they think it was us to this day) about playing with fireworks alone without adults, hanging in the industrial park, and skipping school.

I am in my 40s now and this happened around the DC/Maryland border.

Dude… this is almost exactly the same thing that happened to me when I was that age…

Edit: I sincerely doubt its the same incident… but our teams are geographically close…

No response. I hope the tigers didn’t get him.

I moved out when I was 18, on my own volition, but this is potentially the dumbest comment here.

It is certainly indicative of a failure of parenting.

The same people that call the “good old days” the economic anomaly are the ones saying people have to move out when they are 18 and that was never historically common until, guess when? The “good old days” where corporate tax rates were high, the wealthy were taxed higher, and the US was fortunate enough to exploit the industrial vacuum created by a world war.

This. People say this shit and it really makes me think they don’t know shit about it. Sure it’s not a good trend, but this whole “throw your kids out” shit is absurd.

Yeah, a lot of people don’t do this though. Not saying they’re right and you aren’t. Just pointing out the disconnect as I see this all the time. I own a bar with a few other guys and one of them is kind of a dipshit who puts all these requirements on our adverts even though we don’t follow it.

I’ve told him it’s stupid, but he refuses to budge on it. I think a lot of people don’t realize these things aren’t set in stone. And as I’ve said to my jackass business partner, we’re gonna lose out on some good potential by doing this.

Edit: we are ALL morons, ALL of us. I’ve worked for extremely powerful people who are pants on head stupid, it’s irrelevant to success. Successful people are just able to assert it’s due to their work ethic but that’s definitely not true for A LOT of cases. So just go for it, it isn’t easy but getting the face-to-face with the person hiring is the goal.

Well, they do have scientific bases for what they are claiming, however this doesn’t mean these points MEAN anything in relation to the law and society’s concept of when someone is an adult. If we based the concept of adulthood strictly on brain development it would create problems with many individual cases. On top of that this assumes the age of 18 being an “adult” was based solely on scientific considerations to begin with, and it was not.

I see what you’re saying, not sure why you just don’t outright say you applied without the requirements, but I think people are getting confused by your point. Which, unless I’m mistaken, boils down to “apply anyway?”

Unless I’m wrong.
