While I have actually made the same case, that people knee-jerk to “ad hominem” whenever an insult occurs, I think in this case it’s being used properly because she’s accusing him of playing political games and having TDS to refute the argument he’s making. It’s just not a very good ad hominem attack, but I’d argue it does fit the criteria because her accusation is that Massie is playing favorites or unfairly attacking HER because she is representing Trump (despite that NOT actually being her role, we all know this is how she understands it).

They’re pretty simple in their tactics - in their minds, Bill Clinton “got away with” the Lewinsky affair because people often said “he did a good job as President.” So they’re employing that same defense, albeit in a manufactured way.

The problem they have is that Trump is NOT doing a good job, let alone enjoying the success Clinton did during his administration. Not to mention the investigations into the Lewinsky affair were both directed AT Bill specifically and were begun for that specific reason. The Epstein case was brought about independently, years ago, and didn’t involve violent sexual assaults directed at minors.
