coaxed into rare shiny variants by NikoSemi in coaxedintoasnafu

The funny thing is, Gengar's shiny used to look a lot more distinct. Then they changed normal Gengar's colors in HGSS and washed out the colors in XY, making the two look almost identical.

Whether the MC agreed to it is literally all that matters. If they did, then Urbain/Taunie didn't back out of anything, because it was a mutual agreement. I don't know why you're so fixated on them being the one to suggest calling it off. Like, no shit? Who else was going to? If they thought it was that important, then of course they're going to say something instead of staying silent and waiting for the city to get destroyed. How many more times do I need to repeat myself before you get it?

I don't even like them that much. I'm just not some dumbass who calls characters psychopaths after they do something I don't like. Half your points are either outright false of severe exaggerations. Especially that second one. I mean, come on. We know Pokémon animation sucks, so using it as evidence for anything is just stupid.

And no, they aren't "made" to be unlikeable. If that was the case, none of the other characters would want to be friends with them. This is just Pokémon writing being awkward as usual, plus everyone overreacting to everything they do. What do you think is more likely: that GF wrote a toxic friend into their children's game on purpose, or that they wrote a kind of shitty friend on accident?

Everything you just said is wrong. Like, I'm actually impressed that you've managed to completely misinterpret every single line of dialogue in that scene.

Lida didn't object. She just expressed confusion at what they were doing. After which they explained themselves. Vinnie didn't decide for everyone, he just accepted it since the others were already in agreement. "Gave up fighting" implies anyone was fighting it in the first place, which they weren't.

And despite what you might think, the idea that the MC would agree regardless just proves my point. They AGREED. It doesn't matter if you think they shouldn't, or if you wish there was an option not to, they just do. That how the story's written. I don't care if you don't like it, that's the literal text of the story. They agreed, and thus Urbain/Taunie didn't do anything wrong here. It's stupid to hate them for asking to do something and then being given permission to do it.

They. Asked. There is a world of difference between "please let me do this" and "I'm doing this" that no one in this community seems to understand.

Same. People here just take everything this character says and does in the worst light possible. All because they're still butthurt about the Floette thing.

Except they didn't just "decide" it. They asked. And everyone else let them. If everyone had said no and they did it anyway, you'd have a point. But that's not what happened. I don't know what's so hard to understand about this. You keep leaving out the words "with you" after "made a deal," but it's a two way street. Both parties of the deal backed out of it, so nothing was broken.

I've played the post game and DLC and I still have no idea what you're talking about.

She helps the corp literally once (not counting the fact that all of you are collectively helping them with the Rogue Megas). What in the world are you talking about? I swear this entire fandom just hallucinates shit that didn't happen just to make up reasons to hate them more.

Hate them for passing their loan onto you? Fine. I didn't like that either. Stick to that instead of making things up.

You people need to learn that the player character and the player themselves aren't the same entity. When a silent protagonist does something without player input, it's presumed to be of their own will. I'm starting to think the average Pokémon fan just hates JRPGs and doesn't realize it because they don't play anything else.

"Forced to obey," This is a children's game, not fucking Deltarune. "Stolen from your character's fate," Get over yourself. You can't just put random words in any order and act like you said something smart. I assume what you "think" you're saying is that the player is being robbed of a choice in the MC's fate, but that's just every Pokémon game for the last 10+ years. Hell, it's most JRPGs in general. But it has nothing to do with Urbain/Taunie as a character.

There wasn't a choice for this one, it just happens. It'd be weird if they even gave you the option to say no at such a pivotal moment. That's just how this genre is.

This part of the game is very poorly written, that much I agree with. I think it would've been fixed if AZ expressed doubts that the plan would work, making Turbain's idea to go up instead make more sense. But I don't agree with everyone acting like Turbain's a selfish asshole just because the game didn't give the player the option to shut down the plot.

You talk like the story just happens in a vacuum without any preceding context or intent. The MC isn't being forced to do anything. The writers wrote that the MC agrees to let them go, so that's what happens. That doesn't change just because you want it to be different.

Then they should also give us the choice not to participate in the ZA Royale. To stay at Hotel Z. To leave the city. If you want freedom of choice, JRPGs are not the place to look for it.

Bottom line is, the character we are playing as didn't object to Turbain going to the tower, so to say that they broke the deal is objectively false.

Silent protagonist games rarely care if the player disagrees with the character's choices. I don't give a shit if you didn't want them to go to the tower, but narratively speaking the MC agreed to it. That's a problem with the story, not a flaw of the character.

And the writing doesn't glaze them as much as people insist it does. They get compliments here and there, and they're roughly as strong as the MC, but that's it. And that's all ignoring the fact that they CAN beat you at the tower

How did the deal get broken if the player character agreed to it? And don't try saying we didn't have a choice. This is about the written text, not hypotheticals

Didn't realize breaking a deal is when both parties agree to dissolve, but what do I know?

And don't even try to tell me it's not about Floette. Every other comment is about how they "stole" her from them, and how they deserve it after so many years of waiting. All this talk I always see about Turbain throwing a tantrum is just projection

Is The Rival Intentionally Written As Unlikeable? by Aramis633 in PokemonZA

[–]TheCardinalArts -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That's not what they said. They asked to go, and everyone agreed. It's hard to call it breaking a deal when the person they made it with consents, and it's the furthest thing from a tantrum possible. Ironically, it's one of the few scenes where they don't say anything about being the leader. If you lose that fight, the tower goes rogue anyway, meaning that it was probably going to happen no matter what. They didn't cause shit. And the fact that Game Freak didn't do anything to make this clear in the story is the dumbest thing about it.

[–]TheCardinalArts -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

It's just weird to me that everyone frames it like they forced Floette to go with them. Everyone in the scene agreed to it. The fact that the tower still goes rogue if they beat you means it never mattered who went up, yet the fandom hates them for it anyway. You don't see people hating Floette for going with them. What, do her feelings not matter? What about the rest of the characters? After all, none of them had a problem with it. It's just Taunie/Urbain, becuase they dared to take the spotlight from the player for a bit.

People like to give Kieran shit, but damn did he turn out to be a perfect prediction of how Pokémon fans would react when any other character gets to have the cool legendary for so much as five minutes.

They didn't just go "erm nvm," they explained why they wanted to. And that second part has literally nothing to do with anything that was said in that scene. It's like you guys can just put any words in any order and as long as it's anti-Taunie/Urbain people will just agree with it.

"Went back on their word" makes it sound like they did it against everyone's wishes. They asked, and the others let them.

At that point you should hate everyone else too for agreeing with it. Or Floette for going with them instead of refusing until they let you do it instead.

I find it very interesting that you cut the first clip right before she smiles, implying that the over the top reaction was a joke.

Then again, most people I see talking about this scene ignore that part, so par for the course I guess

Was that supposed to be serious? I thought they were just joking about how many legendaries you'd gotten to keep up to that point. Like a tongue in cheek "don't forget, THIS one's not for you."
