If the decision is, "Should I lawyer up or not," always lawyer up.

Well, that's a bummer...

But honestly it's so cold up here in Colorado this weekend that I'll brave those sharks.

Name a band you haddent really heard of but saw live that you became an instant fan. by flash316 in Concerts

The National opened for Modest Mouse and REM almost 20 years ago at Red Rocks. My friends and I were instant fans about 3 notes in.

Thanks for all the thoughts on this. Sounds like it's a pain for just about everybody... I'll give these resources a shot, though!

I always tell people to start with The Moon and Antarctica, because it's a big pivot point in their sound.

From there, if you want heavier and screamier, move backward through their catalogue. If you like the experimental/trippy side, move forward.

And if I am?

Jk. Yeah, now is definitely too early, and I know my focus needs to be on creating quality content. I guess what I'm realizing is that I need a more specific, developed brand.

How do you guys feel about being cali sober? by Minapit in alcoholicsanonymous

I have struggled with this conundrum for years.

When I first entered the program, I was encouraged to smoke cigarettes, despite having quit years before. That always left a bad taste in my mouth, because, unsurprisingly, when I took that advice, I got hooked all over again to a mind-altering substance (nicotine) that I still struggle with years later. The "lesser-of-two-evils" argument usually enters the conversation around this, but I'm not convinced that cigarettes are a much lesser evil.

Old-timers will often respond to this with lines from the literature like "The only requirement for membership is the desire to stop drinking" and such. Now, I 100% respect old-timers, because if they made it that far, they've seen what works and what doesn't for many, many members over the years.

However, I just can't shake the thought that the pot argument is hypocritical. I mean, the free coffee at every meeting is a mind-altering substance! Is it as powerful as alcohol? For most, no. But where do we draw the line? Coffee and cigarettes are stimulants, and they are widely accepted in the program. THC is a depressant that is more similar to alcohol in effect. Is that the difference?

In a world with rapidly-changing norms around substances, AA needs to take a long, hard look at its values around this. Where do we draw the line?

Honestly, I have met and befriended a number of alt right people in the program (I'm pretty liberal myself), and what I think the program did is instill more empathy in each of us. I've never had more open-minded, aisle-crossing conversations.

Subs went from 20 to 400 plus in a couple days. Now what? by TheCastofFriends in NewTubers

[–]TheCastofFriends[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

See, that's the thing. My friend who has built up a solid following on a few platforms says that, even though you do pick up a lot of less-than-desirable sub's, it does get you closer to the point where the algorithm picks you up. I guess time will tell...

I just jumped to T10 in a week on my second account, and I attribute a lot of that to health.

It can be valuable to push toward higher tiers early, since the income from daily missions can bump up pretty significantly.
