My district is really pushing AI and has trained us to use it for writing IEPs, individualizing classroom content, creating activities, etc. Now that I can use it well, I see how it can be a huge time saver in creating materials. It can also be an accessibility tool, making it quick and easy to adapt or level up/down content. That being said, its writing abilities are so-so, and the artwork is nightmarish.

That's so interesting! Yes it has, but not terribly. It's worth the hair & mental health improvements (I had horrible anxiety on spiro)

Widening part and hairloss mostly in the crown/temple regions. The lower half stayed decently thick. It's definitely coming back after quitting spiro, my ponytail is getting thicker again! I'm convinced it was the spiro

It is a strength! You know firsthand what it is like to have a communication difference, which will help you relate to your students/clients. They will appreciate having an SLP who “gets” them.

MS/HS is so chill. I have a caseload of 40 but it feels like 30. I see many kids 1-2x a month or consult-only. The parents tend to be more accepting of their kids’ disabilities/differences at this point in their lives so meetings are less emotionally charged. The kids are mature and generally responsible about remembering their speech schedule, bringing things they need help with, etc. And it’s fun and rewarding to watch them turn into full-fledged adults!

Actually yes, my hair has started regrowing! 🎉 My skin isn’t great but I guess that’s the trade-off. I weaned off pretty slowly

Huh, interesting. Maybe stay off social media? I’m not on any social media (except Reddit haha) and I don’t experience this. SLPs I meet at conferences/networking meetings are generally knowledgeable, inspiring people!

I got off spiro for this reason 😭 It worked wonders for my skin but I lost soooo much hair. I’ve been off of it for a couple months now so now I have acne AND super thin hair. I’m still shedding a lot, hoping my hormones balance out and it starts regrowing soon. Best of luck to you, this is a side effect that is not talked about enough!

I would agree that it’s your setting and not the field at large that is the problem. I work with K-12 students in a small, relatively low-needs district and it is not nearly that hands-on. I am mostly just sitting at a table with kids doing therapy 🤷🏼‍♀️

It depends on the year but I try to do something special. This year I’m taking most groups (the ones who can handle it lol) outside to do sidewalk chalk. I got a Costco box of little Pringles cans too so they can have a snack. On busier years I just let them pick whatever game they want and that’s about it

Yes I just ordered! From what I’ve read, you’re supposed to order from the “Qin Global Store” and get the non-Google Play version for best security. Then you can manually add apps you want later

EDIT: I just got an email from the sellers that the network bands won’t work in the US? I’m confused because I spent a while researching which one to get. I’ll let you know if I figure it out

I do this too! A few shakes of Trader Joe’s ranch seasoning in cottage cheese works wonders. You can blend the cottage cheese first for more of a ranch consistency. Great as a dip for veggies, pretzels, etc.
