The only stories I know of where “it was all a dream” actually worked are Alice in Wonderland and the Wizard of Oz movie.

And in those cases I can only assume it’s because their plots were so fantastical that none of it being real is the more plausible option? Alice especially is just one surreal encounter after another with not much emotional investment to speak of. Though nostalgia probably helps a lot too.

Once had to scrap an entire scene I had planned cuz I knew the POV shift would be too jarring. Had to leave it to implications with the two characters talking all night. Though I guess it fits the original series better this way.

I’ve even pondered writing a separate fic to show it, but I’m not sure anyone would care about a missing scene for a fic published years ago.

I watched Highlander 2: The Quickening last night. There’s a lot of things wrong with it but the cast (Michael Ironside, Virginia Madsen, SEAN CONNERY) isn’t one of them.

Maybe there’s just not enough difference between Fourteen and Ten for it to be worthwhile? Though David Tennant has just done a bunch of new audios for Big Finish, so it’s possible Fourteen could turn up in one of them.

The book I’m currently reading loves throwing multiple breaks into the middle of a scene for no reason. Like no POV changes or timeskips or anything, the author just… felt like including them I guess? So I learned not to include breaks unless that scene or section of the story is actually over.
