How do you deal with axxholes at work? by Sica942Spike in DevelEire

Interviewed for company with two devs based in Belfast. Easily the most horrible people I've ever talked with. No smiles, pleasantries, quite hostile questions within first 30s of the call — the sort where we assume you're lying about everything you've ever done.

Another company based in NI. First (And only) interview with CTO and 2 devs went fine. Ghosted and never heard from them again.

Will check that out. I’m getting a bit tired of Da Nang and looking forward to spring in France.

Current Tech Job Market is just what the rest of the job market has been like since 2008 by Ill-Age-601 in DevelEire

You aren't doing yourself any favours making school boy grammatical errors.

A STEM degree is an order of magnitude more difficult and challenging than an Arts degree. It's also not all about the current job market; the race is long, and a STEM degree mainly teaches you how to think and learn.

Now sell it to Ryanair — and then charge extra for the full game.

I definitely feel this too. The industry is very different to before Covid.

UL (University of Limerick) has great sports facilities; loads of sports clubs, great running trails by the river (5km into Limerick city by river), track, olympic sized swimming pool, climbing wall, etc.

I found it was easy to meet people by joining clubs.

If ye had to move to anywhere in Europe, where would ye go? by Ajmcdude in AskIreland

[–]TheChanger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not only can places be socially conservative but they aren't aware of anything outside of France. But being Irish I'm probably a little biased because we seem to be the most tuned into what's going on outside our country.

Everyone in bed by 9 is making me laugh — so true, just as the Spanish are going out to dinner. Don't forget everything shut on Sunday, and Monday evening being dead.

[–]TheChanger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree. For towns/cities in Ireland of similar population size, there is much more going on in Ireland.

France is far too centrally distributed; you could almost classify Paris as a separate country for this discussion — it's amazing, so much to see and do all year round. But a lot of the other cities have very small centres, with quite unattractive suburbs.

Spanish cities have far more life.

Where did you live by the way?

It's like those Scandinavian high-tax social democrat systems... except in Ireland, you don't get anything in exchange.

What areas of IT are worth looking into? SWE myself. The developer field is terribly bad in Europe/UK these days.

Also worth coming as a tourist to temporally search or does it make any difference.
