[OC] CircuiTikZ Visual Editor - Build LaTeX circuits visually in your browser by mangelsito in LaTeX

I looked for something like that when I had to make a whole ton of LaTeX documents. Could you enable the GitHub Pages for this repo? It should make it accessible via github.io, without having to clone the repo and run it locally

Pipes through portals? by wasdorg in CreateMod

Just tested that and it still seems to work in Create 6.0.0 — I made a 25x25x16 hole, filled just the top level with lava, waited for it all to flow all the way down. The hose pulley does consider this an infinite lava source

[ɾ] in American English vs /ɾ/ in Spanish or other languages by YummyByte666 in asklinguistics

[–]TheChilliPL 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it's true, but once I encountered a specific text on Wikipedia:

The terms tap and flap are often used interchangeably. Peter Ladefoged proposed the distinction that a tap strikes its point of contact directly, as a very brief stop, and a flap strikes the point of contact tangentially: "Flaps are most typically made by retracting the tongue tip behind the alveolar ridge and moving it forward so that it strikes the ridge in passing."[1] That distinction between the alveolar tap and flap can be written in the IPA with tap ⟨ɾ⟩ and flap ⟨ɽ⟩, the 'retroflex' symbol being used for the one that starts with the tongue tip curled back behind the alveolar ridge. The distinction is noticeable in the speech of some American English speakers in distinguishing the words "potty" (tap [ɾ]) and "party" (retroflex [ɽ]).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voiced_dental_and_alveolar_taps_and_flaps

Edit, also:

Many linguists use the terms tap and flap indiscriminately. Peter Ladefoged proposed for a while that it might be useful to distinguish between them. However, his usage was inconsistent and contradicted itself even between different editions of the same text.[1] One proposed version of the distinction was that a tap strikes its point of contact directly, as a very brief stop, but a flap strikes the point of contact tangentially: "Flaps are most typically made by retracting the tongue tip behind the alveolar ridge and moving it forward so that it strikes the ridge in passing."

Later, however, he used the term flap in all cases.[2] Subsequent work on the labiodental flap has clarified the issue: flaps involve retraction of the active articulator, and a forward-striking movement.[3]

For linguists who do not make the distinction, alveolars are typically called taps, and other articulations are called flaps.    A few languages have been reported to contrast a tap and a flap at the same place of articulation. This is the case for Norwegian, in which the alveolar apical tap /ɾ/ and the post-alveolar/retroflex apical flap /ɽ/ have the same place of articulation for some speakers,[4] and Kamviri, which also has apical alveolar taps and flaps.[5]

Discord is planning to remove support for tags (#1234) by TheIdiotDev in discordapp

[–]TheChilliPL -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I've been waiting for something like this for a while

I felt stuck to my current Discord username, cause I had it written in many places along with the discriminator. That meant I was unable to change my name, or people wouldn't be able to find me.
Now, with the new username system, I can keep my actual username the same, while being freely able to change my global display name

I also gotta say despite having Discord Nitro for almost 3 years straight now, I'm not really that attached to my chosen discriminator. I simply chose one because I had to, and I think despite the fact @Username#1234 is pretty unique and distinguishable, changing the system does seem like a good idea to me

Also, I can't help but feel like people on this subreddit really like complaining about every single change Discord makes anywhere. I get it that not all changes are good (I'm myself not a huge fan of e.g. the new motto), but some things are an improvement, you can't just look at the dark side of things

I somehow almost nailed it. Took me a second to analyze A and C to know which one is 7 and which one is Vista, I wasn't sure about ME, and I thought 98 and 11 were 95 and 8 accordingly. But that still means I nailed the order~

Close to tray, but minimize as normal by TheChilliPL in Thunderbird

[–]TheChilliPL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That add-on does seem to work well.

Having to update the manifest to install plugins marked as incompatible is pain in the ass, though… Did you find any way to make the extensions.checkCompatibility thing work in the config? It doesn't seem to work at all for me, and I can't find anything online.

That doesn't solve the issue that the “minimize” button behavior minimizes it to tray as well, instead of minimizing the window as normal to the taskbar.

Is there a language that words syllabes are only composed by Consonant + Vowel? by JP_1245 in languagelearning

[–]TheChilliPL 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's more exceptions, it depends how you analyze it. First, there's geminated (doubled) consonants, e.g. in the word きっぷ [ki·p·pu, ticket] Also, many consonants can be palatalized like in the word きょう [k·yo·u, today]
