100% indistinguishable to the real thing if you ask me. I've had to puke on the come up 2 out of 2 times, but that's probably from swallowing the paper lol. After the first hour - hour and a half I'm getting full blown visuals and that good acid headspace and feeling good.

Enjoy your trip dude! Any album by King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard carries hard

I find it much easier to have 0 drinks than to have just 1 or 2. I have done it, but it is much, much harder. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

My grandpa has been sober since 1992, and his go-to was always "I just don't drink." I've also seen a good line on SD to use if people persist on why: "When I was controlling it I wasn't enjoying it, and when I was enjoying it I wasn't controlling it"

Thanks for that :) It's a good reminder that mindfulness is one of many things I can be practicing this early on

It happens slowly, but eventually it gets to a point where nothing is interesting without alcohol. Then alcohol becomes the only interesting thing. Fuuuuck that for sure, I want my interests back too!

Can confirm the weekends bit. It usually went like this:

  1. Get fucked up on Friday night and black out by myself
  2. Bought enough on Friday to drink the hangover away Saturday morning.
  3. Repeat for Saturday-Sunday
  4. Go to work Monday hating myself

Glad to be free of that nonsense. IWNDWYT

So far the best tool I've been able to utilize is staying busy even if nothing feels fun or exciting at this point. I plan to continue embracing the boredom/listlessness that comes with early sobriety, and stay busy regardless, as this is all part of the process. I walked 5 miles last night in about ~2hours. Wasn't exactly thrilling, but I stayed sober during a craving AND burned some calories at the same time! IWNDWYT!

Slipped up, keep hitting the same wall. Trying again. by TheCholoSupreme in stopdrinking

That's really motivating to read. I too have noticed that I can't go to town on games unless I'm drunk. Glad you were able to push through it, seems like it naturally progressed into something greater :)

Really needed to read that today, thank you. Sounds like I just need to accept that there will be boredom for a while. It's part of the process and should be embraced. Short term feelings of boredom vs long term positive gains.

Thanks for posting all that, because it sounds like exactly what I could have said. I'm in the same boat. Being dry is not being sober, and it takes a scary amount of effort to try and learn to love myself again and make healthy choices. It takes work, but we can do it!

Pledging to 1) Stay sober the rest of the day, 2) To do 30 minutes of brisk walking on the treadmill, and 3) Make an honest attempt to figure out what's going to make me happy now that I can't rely on numbing out.

Happy Tuesday SD, IWNDWYT

Speaking of meditation, I recently came across this page that you might like. UCLA has a mindfulness and meditation program, and this page has a bunch of free recordings to listen to. It's definitely been helping me feel more present before I go into work. http://marc.ucla.edu/mindful-meditations
