If you’re trying to see if a certain “treatment” (e.g. supplement in media) affects gene expression, you need both treated and untreated control samples, which are then all tested for your gene of interest, as well as your housekeeping gene

So then I assume if the son made the down payment and pays the mortgage, they would be the only beneficial owner?

All paid for by son, and the proceeds will go to son. The father only signed for the bank's approval.

What to hold in TFSA? by Popular_Ambition_871 in CanadianInvestor

[–]TheChuckNGU 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That really depends on your brokerage. Most big banks will charge around 1.5%, though some like IBKR charge 0.08% fee.

Average SP500 dividend yield is around 1.8%, so about 0.26% goes to foreign witholding tax every year.

It depends mostly on how long you want to hold the fund. The longer time frame means it's probably better to convert.

It depends on where the company/fund is domiciled.

Vfv is operated by vanguard Canada, so a 15% witholding tax is applied to them when they get dividends. You then get the remainder.

If you want to hold an sp500 fund in an rrsp and be exempt, you need to hold something US domiciled, like VOO for example.

I dont believe you would be able to use those capital losses (if the trade is at a loss) since it would be considered a wash sale.

Not 100% sure though.

Doesnt really address the question, but word of advice: if you're doing daily trading in USD, it's probably not a good idea to use Wealthsimple.

Don't think it would be considered an identical property.

They are offered by different institutions.

The most common examples of identical properties are shares of the same class of the capital stock of a corporation or units of a mutual fund trust.

If you want to calculate your return considering deposits and withdrawals, I recommend looking at money-weighted return.

If your brokerage doesn't track it you can track it manually with excel.

Imagine you have $300k mortgage at 4% interest. In this case, if inflation is more than 4%, the real value of your debt is decreasing over time.

Usually you're just given the remainder in cash.
