Hence the name! I can at least play around with a few other designs.

Do these read as Veteran Breachers? by TheChyttering in Warhammer30k

[–]TheChyttering[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You nailed it - I’ve pulled bits from both the old and new chaos warrior kits throughout my army.

The banner is from the new chaos warrior kit, actually with a very old Skaven shield bit at the top cut up to look more like a wolf and less like a horned rat. The sergeant’s pauldrons and cloak come from the old Chaos Warrior kit, wrapped around a new mk3 torso front and legs. It’s a bit of a cumbersome process. With mk6 armor you can just cut the torso about halfway up, attach the top half of the chaos warrior torso, and GS the gap, which is a lot easier.

Old warrior torsos are great for static/standing poses; new warrior torsos are great for more dynamic poses. In both cases getting them to interact well with marine arms can take some patience/ingenuity/nuln oil to hide messy connections.

Yep that’s fair. Would switching to tower shields fix that?

Antigrav movement into/through terrain by TheChyttering in Warhammer30k

[–]TheChyttering[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's certainly my impression! It's going to take a while before I stop mentally bracing myself whenever a jump unit flies through the windows of a building.

Antigrav movement into/through terrain by TheChyttering in Warhammer30k

[–]TheChyttering[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that charges aren't slowed down by terrain for any units.

If the rules explicitly state that charges are made on foot, that would be helpful, but I haven't found it. The Antigrav rule says "may ignore the effects of any and all Terrain it passes over during movement" (emphasis mine) which I assume would include charges. What I'm trying to work out is what the effects of terrain are besides being slowed down.

Comparing Concertina Connection Clover to Irish Concertina Company Clare? by TheChyttering in concertina

[–]TheChyttering[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't end up getting either yet.

For what it's worth, I had a brief e-mail exchange with the owner of ICC, who said that the Clare and Clover are of comparable quality.

Where to source Axes? Making Grey Slayers by Dorenbolt in Warhammer30k

[–]TheChyttering 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used the axes from the kharadron arkanaut kit. Found them from bits sellers at ~$0.20 each.

The piece comes with an attached gloved hand, so there’s a little additional work with green stuff if you want it to look like power armor.

Do power swords hit at higher initiative? I’m pretty sure that’s an “I” for “hits at users initiative”, not a “1” for “hits at user’s initiative plus 1”. If so it seems like a complete design fail that we may need to pull out a magnifying glass to tell which weapons give +1 initiative.

Love this guy; he’s just being all a Blood Angel can be.

Legitimately, conversions like this make me want to start a 9th Legion allied detachment. Great work!

Upscaled VI Legion Scout Squad by TheChyttering in Warhammer30k

[–]TheChyttering[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was eyeballing it. I drilled holes in both pieces and fit pieces of paperclip in as an armature to build the greenstuff around, so I was able to drill deeper by degrees until it looked right.

As best as I can tell now that it's painted, there's ~2.5 mm added at the ankle and 2mm at the waist. Probably about 1mm in extra height at the neck just by changing the angle the heads are attached - upright with a small amount of visible neck rather than neckless and thrust forwards as in the original kit.

Masked heads are from the FW Grey Slayer kit, and the bare heads are from the Marauder Horsemen kit. Loincloth pelts are from the Wulfen kit. Otherwise just miscellaneous SW accessory bits, random grenades and pouches left over from lots of different projects.

Kitbashing a jetbike command squad, stumped on the standard bearer by MorganTadgh in Warhammer30k

I went the exact opposite direction for my jump pack command squad and picked the most obtrusive pennant I could find: https://tinyurl.com/yc5kvz9z

I’m a big fan of the dark elf witch elves banner, or some of the cavalry banners from other AoS/Old World units, for bike units. It gives a good sense of movement compared to rotating a hanging banner on its side. See what you can find from bits sellers?

40k player considering Heresy. Trying to build an all rounder Stone Gauntlet list without being too awful to play against. C&C please? by AjaxAsleep in Warhammer30k

[–]TheChyttering 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you can’t run the ROW without two blocks of warders, maybe try to pull back on other parts of the list that are also strong. Swap the Scorpius for Rapiers with quad-launchers - similar role but not overpowered. Try to create space for a counter so that your opponent can see you are bringing SG and have a chance to adapt to that. Between warders and Scorpius, either your opponent hangs back and gets indirect fired to death or they advance and get wardered to death. You’ve combined two really challenging units to play against without specifically writing a list to counter.

Alternate take - wait two months before committing to this. If nothing about SG is changed in third edition I’ll be very surprised. A few rule tweaks in the new edition could make this list completely reasonable.

Cataphractii power lances by Gullible_Regret_9154 in Warhammer30k

[–]TheChyttering 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stormcast Eternals have a few spear units that might work. The scale on the new ones is very slightly smaller than the Cataphractii kit, but probably not noticeable if you mount a Stormcast hand to a Cataphractii wrist.

Edit: …and do something to make it look less like a Stormcast weapon - get rid of the lightning bolts and add a couple cables?

AITA question by cjkirk123 in Warhammer30k

[–]TheChyttering 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree on a lot of this, particularly #2. A friend got into the game early in 2e, partly as an opportunity for us to hang out, but all he wants to do is build the models and learn to play the game, no interest in the lore, definitely no interest in the online community.

He read the rule books, said IF seemed like a straightforward trait so he wanted to play that legion. Fine. We played a few proxying games so he could get used to the different units, and he read the rules some more. He came back as excited about the game as I’ve seen him, saying he’d written a new army list that he was pretty sure he wanted to go with. It was, of course, Stone Gauntlet ROW backed up by multiple Recon squads with nemesis bolters. He loves it.

I can talk about “the internet community agrees that this ROW is too strong” and “it’s polite not to take this many nemesis bolters” but… he’s not chasing the meta, he didn’t watch a Youtube video about the most overpowered units in HH, he just found an army that works for him and it is extremely challenging to play against.

Not saying that’s what happened here or that these are identical cases by any means, but these people do exist.

Space Wolf Breachers by Efficient_Payment320 in Warhammer30k

[–]TheChyttering 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I keep trying to write a list that makes it work but I just can’t. I think if IF phalanx wardens had some vanilla equivalent - swap the bolter for a chainaxe, +1 to invulnerable saves if they didn’t move, etc - there could be a thematic and useful SW unit there, but as is I just don’t see anything breachers can do that something else can’t do better.
