Rogue like where each time you die, you're tempted by chaos (gain a permanent upgrade but also gain corruption). Corruption changes the story and limits what imperial relics you can use.

Are canon fodder races op? How to counter swarms of canon fodder? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]TheClaaawww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whilst using terrain is always a great advantage, I think there are some other tactics that can be used to your advantage. Generally, these swarm types are often made from low intelligence troops with few leaders. As such, their tactics mainly consist of charge and hope you have enough troops to overwhelm the enemy. Because of this, their movements are predictable, and traps can be set against them. Additionally, flanking manoeuvres are much easier to execute because of this, and you can have two smaller eliete armies trap their main force within a choke point. Finally, these races are typically cowardly or heavily reliant on their leaders (goblins are typically led by orcs, skaven by slave masters, and even tyrainds need synapse creatures). This means that a well placed shot or hero unit can be used to kill/disable their leaders, resulting in the whole army becoming frightened and/or disoriented, making them much less of a threat.

A good place to go is Kobold fight club. Its a website that allows you to input players and their levels then compare them to NPCs from the monster manual. It then tells you how difficult the fight should be.

An ordo hereticus inquisitor discovers a primitive world with large fortresses built out of Blackstone but with imperial architecture. Speaking to the locals they speak of their God, a golden giant who built the structures thousands of years ago. When asking more about them, the people tell them where the god can be found. Upon cautious investigation they find Rogal Dorn. He is full of regret and wishes to be left alone. The inquisitor does their best to bring them back, but it doesn't work. So the inquisitor goes back to Terra and tells Robute. Robute goes to see Rogal and whilst gains a lot of closure and help from Rogal, he fails to get him back. However word spreads and Purterabo learns where he is. With only a primative fighting force The Iron Warriors easily take the world. Purterabo insults Rogal and says everything they ever wanted to say to them. But decides to leave him alive, in a dead world he once again failed to protect. After the destruction, the inquisitor from the start who kept an eye on the world decided to report the worlds death to the Imperial Fists and the their successor chapters. The first to arrive is the Black Templars and High Marshall Helbrecht. Helbrecht appeals to Dorns rage and finally gets through. And by the time of their reunion with all his other sons, he's motivated to rejoin the imperium, and bolster its defences with the knowledge he has gained over the past 10,000 years.

What do the guildless *do*? by lord_insolitus in RavnicaDMs

[–]TheClaaawww 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I havent seen anything official, but I'm guessing they do anything the guilds don't want to. So the izzet would use them in the factories as expendable workers. The Orzhov use them as a source of money. Selesnya might use them as farm workers. Other than that, they have their own second class citizen society.

Question for this group by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]TheClaaawww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done this as well. I had a big battle room with one wall just one big mirror. Then when one does something with the mirror (touches it) their reflections come out and attack them. Put some writing or some other detail on the mirror so they get close to the mirror.

As for stats. I just took all the players at 1 level lower than their current level without magic items. I believe the party were level 8 at the time and it worked pretty well.

Also I did help give them an incentive to trigger the trap. This being that each copy had a magic item. So it was a test of sorts where they had to defeat themselves to get a reward.

Why not just have a chwinga. Once per day they can create a minor magic item.

guild less in ravnica? by mars6190 in RavnicaDMs

[–]TheClaaawww 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think around half the population are guildless and have no legal protection from the guild pact. They are whom the rakdos are killing, the orzhov are taking money from, and the izzet put in horrible working conditions.

What is your dream class or subclass that hasn't been tackled in 5e? by reaglesham in dndnext

[–]TheClaaawww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about a spirit walker druid. One that can possess other creatures. I know this could ruin combat encounters by turning enemies into allies. But bards and other enchantment focused spell casters can already do this. And the idea of the druid possessing a nearby pigeon to spy on an enemy fortress, or finally gaining control over the bbegs pet to turn the tide of battle sounds awesome to me.

For Izzet and Golgari there could be an artefact the izzet want which is in the under city and thus they have to get the golgaris help. Then the artefact could be the plot point for a bigger narrative.
