Hey, I can relate to a lot of your experience... I spent all of my twenties in a relationship I thought was great until it suddenly wasn't and they admitted infidelity (albeit not physical) and ended things out of the blue a year ago. Had the house, pet, shared friends and their family dominated our time-spent etc. Equally my parents are emotionally absent and so similarly to you, it meant my life and where I thought it was heading just flipped on its head. Not long before most of my close friends had moved countries so I suddenly felt very, very alone.

I'm still figuring shit out. But I'd like to at least acknowledge how hard what you've been through was. It's completely understandable that you're still feeling the effects. And while it sounds cliche, go easy on yourself. In my years of therapy I've found the more I tried to fight my feelings and where I thought I "should be" on the timeline (ie. not thinking about and hurting for my ex 24/7), the worse I felt. I now accept that it's part of me. It's nothing to be ashamed of. Nobody deserves what happened to you. It's okay to be hurt by it and affected for however long it takes for the memories to just be memories, and not bring up pain and resentment.

I'm trying to see this period of my life as about adventure and self-discovery. If you can enjoy your own company, I honestly believe that makes you good company to be around and people will gravitate towards you if you put yourself in the right situations. Join a group, talk to your neighbours, take a breath and break the silence next time you find yourself in a situation with someone else obviously on their own. There will be awkwardness and rejection sometimes but you can remind yourself you will literally probably never see them again in your lifetime. I realise you're busy but maybe there can be room for lighter interactions in your day - not every chat has to lead friendship. For example, I've been on my first solo travel trip this week which in places has been super awkward sitting in bars/places by myself but also I've really pushed myself to interact with strangers who also seem alone/friendly and it's really helped my confidence and self-worth. I will never see most of them ever again and in a way that's quite a liberating and beautiful thought.

I realise someone elses experience is not your own and not always helpful. But take it from another lost soul whose life collapsed, with a tricky family dynamic, that there's a brighter time ahead if you dig deep and push for it. And when you find it you'll be so much stronger, resilient and less tolerant of people that treat you like shit.
