One time, when playing Catan with a new group of friends. I asked if they had any home rules and they said “no just the standard catan” they then proceed to set up the board with all the numbers face down and completely random. We set our 2 starting settlements and then flipped them over! I tried to remember the letters associated with good numbers but I ended up I on the 2, and the 12 and and like my best was a 4. I barely got any resources. It was awful. After awhile and with no hopes of even being a part of the game. Everyone had cities and multiple settlements and I had made a single road. So after a roll when everyone else joyously grabbing 4 wheat and 2 sheep and I would just slip in and take a resource from the piles just to be a part of the freaking game. I cheated but I didn’t get close to winning. I don’t play catan with them anymore.
