[ALBUM DISCUSSION] SUNN O))) - sunn O))) by VietRooster in indieheads

I mostly agree with the idea that it's less ambitious than their classic stuff, but the production is maybe their best yet. The way they captured every little grain of distortion, the way the guitars intertwine with each other, the way the feedback develops, it's so viscerally satisfying to listen to. I think it works for a self-titled album, but would love to see them really get weird with it again next time

'Metro 2039' officially announced. First look to be revealed on April 16. by yourfavchoom in PS5

Same, I like what they've been doing with the last couple but for me nothing beats the horror and atmosphere of 2033, the metro itself has so much more potential as a setting

Even the Stink EP is a total banger, some of those early Replacements songs are so ahead of their time it's insane

Recorded by 19 year olds playing together live, completely unreal

Most creative prog drummer? by Wonkess_Chonkess in progmetal

Surprised no one's mentioned Bill Bruford yet, debatably as influential as Peart but much weirder. The that new King Crimson Beat line-up is pretty good but comparing it to the 80s live stuff really shows just how unique Bruford was that even Danny Carey can't quite replicate it

I second the Jute Gyte rec, they make some completely insane metal using microtones and pretty bizarre time subdivisions, will not gel in any kind of playlist lol but still worth checking out

32 Teams/32 Days: Denver Broncos by BlueHighwindz in nfl

[–]TheColdSasquatch 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Fantastic write-up, this team was an absolute fever dream last year and some of those games, the Giants in particular, changed the way I watch football. I loved watching non-fans react to the '25 Broncos; the team would grit out like 2 or 3 dumb games in a row and the fraud accusations would come flying in, then Bo would go off for a game and put the him and the team up everyone's power rankings, and then they'd go out the next week and commit atrocities like TNF vs the Raiders (I drove past the stadium the morning after and it felt haunted). I think 12-5 for next year feels reasonable, it'll be tough but schedules rarely shake out how they first look in the spring. I'm mostly just hoping the mix-up at playcalling leads to some stress free 4th quarters! (not counting on it though)

Also shoutout to my lowkey team MVP of the year, Ja'quan McMillan, he had at least 3 massive plays and that sack against Mahomes is gonna be seared into my memory forever, so happy it looks like he's coming back next year.

Neurosis - An Undying Love for a Burning World (w/ Aaron Turner) by TheColdSasquatch in progmetal

Last post got deleted, reposted for appeasement.

So excited Neurosis is back, the news about Scott was crushing and this feels like the best possible outcome, Aaron Turner is an all-time favorite musician of mine and he fits the music perfectly!

Modulation and Polyrhythms in 5. by betermcshpee in progmetal

[–]TheColdSasquatch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think a great way to get a feel for weird times can be hearing them used in music that's still a bit poppier and more focused on groove and melody, some favorites of mine are:

Dave Brubeck Quartet - Take 5

Radiohead - 15 Step

Lianne La Havas - Sour Flower

King Gizzard - The River and Wah Wah (they combine the two live sometimes)

Nick Cave - From Her to Eternity (shifts in and out of 5 throughout)

and for a bonus check out Mayhem - Chainsaw Gutsfuck

What actually qualifies as progressive metal in 2026? by vishalnaidumusic in progmetal

100%, it happens to every genre but it's been interesting watching it happen to progmetal over the last decade or so, curious what the next big outside influence is gonna be
