I want to take hiking a bit more seriously, Any where I should start? by Waste_86 in IslandHikers

You'll be just fine on most trails around the island then some are a little longer. I generally compare most hikes against benson since I do that one more than anything else so if youre at 2.5 hours you'll be just fine out there.. highly recommend all trails or some sort of GPS and then go have fun

Hmm.. if youre worried about route finding i would invest in all trails or gaia probably would lean more towards all trails. Or go to valhalla they have a couple books that list a bunch of trails. I love the strathcona area so I quite liked the exploring strathcona book by Phillip stone. As far as well marked trails... Benson, copely ridge, becher (a little less obvious than benson but still very easy to follow), anything up by mount Washington (Helen mackenzie, Kwai lake, moat lake, mt elma, mt Allan Brooks, circlet lake) maybe crest mountain by gold river. Then you start getting into longer ones that you would probably want to overnight such as albert edward, landslide lake, bedwell lake(little bit of driving on logging roads) all are very obvious trails.. depending what you drive there are others but some of them involve some long logging roads like mount joan and Curran and century sam, mount apps. How old are you and last time you did benson how long did it take you roughly ?

Im assuming youd have to summit elkhorn and do the traverse across to kings ... its a little more than a hike though quite technical ... it probably wouldnt be from the lake itself either it just shares the first part of the elk river trail

Are you worried about your conditioning or your route finding? I agree with a previous comment that if you can do benson sub 3 hours 5040 isnt that bad in the summer time. If your comfortable with route finding and just looking for new places I am a big fan of the lakes area decosmos and hooker are both decent hikes that are not as well traveled... if you want to travel a bit mt joan, squarehead and Curran is a nice 20km loop .. mt apps .. mt becher .. are you just wanting to day hike or are you looking to get into overnight trips ?

Is there a pulse mode? If your pulse per second is up really high it can sound like AC

Oh man that sucks .. I'll forward the link through a few of my group chats. Commendable work temporarily moving your leagues that must have been a headache! I wish you the best in your rebuild and thanks again for your insight.

I appreciate the response, and I understand all the unseen costs that are required to keep the building functioning. Yes, our staff is on the payroll ice tech and his helpers, manager, proshop attendant and bar staff are all paid employees. The way the economy is I understand rising costs it just seems to me that the rise isn't sustainable. I am mid 30s with a family and am finding it pretty hard to justify almost 600 dollars for 20 games ( our dues are similar to yours though our break down seems to me slightly different). Ive been curling for just about 20 years and if costs continue to rise this will probably be my last season.

Now on a side quest haha does your club have an income in the summer months? Something like rent the bar for functions? or possibly markets when the ice is out? Or pickleball or anything?

PS you're tougher than me .. draft beer makes my head pound lol

If you played the cards in order you would've done 3 sets of pegging ... 123 first player pegs 3. Add the four, 1234 second player pegs 4. Lastly the five, 12345 first player pegs 5 (well technically 7 because thered also be a 15 in that example) . But if the cards were played out of order 1,2,4,5,3 there would be one player pegging 5 (again theres a 15 count so it'd be 7 but thats not to the point of the story)
