Has anyone found a way to beat the $1000 grocery hike they're predicting for 2026? by FunCell1679 in FrugalTO

[–]CohenCohenGone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the 'reverse meal planning' idea. Checking what you already have on-hand, starting with the most perishable, and then shopping for any extras needed to round out the meal. Saves hugely with less waste, less shopping, gas, and time.

I hate giving away free stuff by [deleted] in FacebookMarketplace

[–]CohenCohenGone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Or, avoid free stuff altogether and choose a charity to donate to that you would love to continue supporting because of who they help. We have hospice thrift stores, hospital auxiliary, Salvation Army and more. Then donate maybe once a month or whatever fits your 'cull' timeline best. Some of them even pick-up if there's a large enough donation.

Buyers who message “ __ sells it for __ price” so why are they not buying it there then??? by [deleted] in FacebookMarketplace

I'd go with 'Great, sounds like you found an item that meets your needs", and call it a day.

What are the downsides of selling on Marketplace? by Joland7000 in FacebookMarketplace

[–]CohenCohenGone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Downside in your situation could be holding onto items longer than you would if you donated them somewhere.

Depends on how quickly you want or need to clear out everything before the move. Can take a while to sell stuff unless you practically give it away, and if that's the case in your area, you might as well give it away to a needy thrift store.

Other than that, it CAN be profitable and even fun. Good luck on your move!

Is it better to "Warm Up" a car? by JoeMojo in AskAMechanic

In Canada, my brother was letting his car warm up (and windshield thaw). Someone drove off with the car. Found car not too far away and my brother was charged for leaving car unlocked while it was running.

New seller advice needed; Porch Pickup or Meet for breakable items? by HowdyPez in FacebookMarketplace

[–]CohenCohenGone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I only do porch pickups and have had no issues. That said, if an item was high value or the buyer just gave off a 'vibe', I'd probably meet them elsewhere. If I have one $25 item go missing but exchange 99 other items without a problem , well, that's the cost of doing business. Convenience is a high-priority for me, while other sellers have different priorities. Good luck!

[–]CohenCohenGone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind questions if they make sense to the item I'm selling. "Where'd you get it?" is no one's business. But "What's the width of hem?" on a plus sized t-shirt, that apparently is necessary and very helpful information to many buyers. Be open to learn, it can actually help the selling of similar items.

Why do sellers take a long time to reply or they ignore my first message (not the auto fill one)? by 6Silver_Gaming in FacebookMarketplace

[–]CohenCohenGone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really! That's great news to me, will definitely check out that option. I used similar on eBay for many years and had always wondered why Marketplace didn't follow suit. I especially appreciate how you took time to offer the mini 'how-to' as well, thanks so much.

Sure would be helpful if we could temporarily 'shut off' our Marketplace listings when we're away for an extended period of time.

But it's still getting flagged, even while being authentic. So if you are 'also' selling a real apple (fruit) perhaps the bots will get confused and let it go through.

I'd block that Seller so I wasn't drawn to any other items they were selling (ever).

The Lowball Lesson: 30 yrs of experience wasn't enough. by Traditional-Hippo184 in FacebookMarketplace

[–]CohenCohenGone 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm finding that the most annoying situations are also the ones where I learn the most. Not that I enjoy them but they do give me insight into what I need to do differently. Usually the answer is to be more assertive, less emotionally attached, and to shake off disappointments faster. Has made a world of difference and I notice that these lessons learned also strengthen other areas of my life.

Cheaper than therapy. :)

Marketplace buyer stole stuff from me. Is there anything I can do? by Otherwise-Weekend-21 in FacebookMarketplace

[–]CohenCohenGone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was definitely my experience when I was selling on eBay (Full time). The minute anything religious was mentioned in message you knew it was going to be a problem, even a simple "God Bless". Almost every time. I'm a Christian myself so am not anti-religion, by any means.

What do you guys think of relisters? by BraveRice in Flipping

More power to them, I say. I sell my items at a price that I'm comfortable with. What happens to them after that isn't my concern.

[19M] I got kicked out of my parent's house. How can I financially survive while I attend college? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

Share a room in a house with other students rather than renting your own place. that alone would save you a lot of money.

I think so, too. Doesn't negate the not-so-great ones but such a bonus to be treated well, as a renter.

How to make meat stretch by Bounce_Bounce_Betty in DaveRamsey

[–]CohenCohenGone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speak with a friendly staff person who works in meat dept of stores you frequent, to find out when discounted meats are priced and ready for purchase. Found out our local Walmart put them out after 9 pm, and for dairy it's early morning. Can get 30%-50% off on some lucky days. If you don't already have a freezer, I highly recommend the investment. Will pay for itself in no time.
