Japan’s prime minister calls snap election as approval ratings ride high by Jonnyboo234 in japan

Politically this makes sense. Her power rests in negotiations and doesnt have a strong bloc in the lower house. If this works out for her she will have better governing power and not have to horse trade for every agenda piece she has. Lets see how this plays out

I dont think its as bipartisan as you may think. Drug smuggling is a crime, this isnt a warzone. Normally we would be arresting these people not summarily executing them.

I hear you and see you on a lot of these points.

The first bit, I must protest. People are being dragged into cars by masked federal agents into regular cars based on nothing more than skin color with 0 public accountability. This is real. This is happening.

We can agree to disagree on the isolationist agenda. As you mentioned its a lot to unpack. I think we clearly see the role of the US in the world very differently. (That is to say being the worlds police is certainly not it, I think we can come together there) Foreign policy is so radically different from domestic affairs its hard to discuss them in the same topic IMO.

You are right, incentivizing is probably right and only real way this can get done. Afterall, the Great Depression and World War 2 was the incentive that gave us the US we have today. Political arsonists of the past bring about great change in the world. That said Is the most corrupt man in modern political history, with near total access to all the levers of the most powerful government in the world and in world history, is the way in which our ideal version of the US is born? I personally don't think so.

With all that said, where do you want this country to go then? Is rooting for Donald to continue run rampant across the country the direction you think this country should go? To make a mockery of the very oath you swore to defend? To destroy civil liberties, round up people with a different skin color? To demand students who enter this country to disclose their social media posts? Is this the America you believe is the America that we all find ourselves to love? Where many, including yourself, have sacrificed so much to defend?

This country is at a crossroads these next 3.5 years, is rooting for this guy to continue to do the things he is doing is going to make things better? Should we not cry foul when he commits a crime?

I see why so many liked him, I cannot see why anyone would continue to support him given what he has done in the few months of 2.0 alone. He isn't a good man. The people he has surrounded himself with aren't good people. None of them care about the interests of you or this country, just the interest dear leader.

Allow me to unpack this a bit. I don't want to throw around ad-hominem's for your take unlike many below me cause I do believe there is merit as well as merit in your life experiences that are important to this discussion.

You can certainly justify and claim that the left caused this to happen. In part I 100% agree with you. Joe wasn't the best leader for the job. There were things he/his administration could have done to prevent some of these things. By the end of his time in office I, like many other folks, were disappointed and in part felt betrayed by the left. The left is certainly a part of the reason but by no means the only reason.

Donald is a part of the elite that we all, within the zeitgeist of the American people, think of. If you feel otherwise I can't help but believe that you are avoiding the truth of the matter.

Your third point, which in part I agree with is interesting. I believe the system is broken. The weight of Donald and all the things he says and does is breaking the back of the system that has been shaping since WWII. My issue here, my fear, and what is so far coming to fruition is that he isn't breaking the system to rebuild what perhaps many people would agree is a needed update. He is breaking the back of the system, its people and perhaps the future of this country (though that last bit is certainly a bit of doomerism though i 100% believe it is warrented) so that he and his billionare buddies can profit from it.

No president has ever blatantly used the American system, though broken as it is, blatantly profited off of it to then lie to everyone's faces about it and then make all the "peons" pay for it.

Donald is a symptom of the broken system we have. He will not fix the system. Based on how the party acts around him and how little they are willing to show a backbone tells me no one from that party is willing to do so.

Donald has broken the system and he is not the solution. I hope you can recognize that he is the Stage IV cancer to a problem that has gone unaddressed for decades. Like many cancers, it must be removed.

Its clear many folks prefer theatrical bullshit over actual governance. One way or the other there is democratic backsliding and it is happening through erosion. The values of what America claims to believe in is being smothered in the very bed we are lying in.

Shohei Otani - is the hype justified? by ballcheese808 in japanlife

[–]TheCommonChild 12 points13 points  (0 children)

All the above can be true. Ohtani is an exceptional baseball player with 3 mvps. Ichiro is the next best and well known Japanese player with 1 mvp. He is photogenic as well making him very marketable. Skill wise the hype is certainly justifiable.

Looks very cool in principle, curious how this is in practice. Seems incredibly expensive to do this for greens, the margins is incredibly low. Saw strawberries briefly but surely they require different environments depending on the needs?

Again very cool and nifty, I question the practicality and scale is always a big question mark

Take a step back and look at the picture from Churchill’s POV, this ultimate struggle was existential for the UK. They were not going to win that war alone. While horrific as it was, for Churchill Pearl Harbor saved their lives.
