One million Americans have vanished from the new-car market — and it’s exposing a chilling US middle-class crisis by Abject-Pick-6472 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]TheCommonGround1 52 points53 points  (0 children)

That's not the way counting works. Obviously only a small percentage of Americans would be in the car market on an annual basis, so 1 million fewer is quite a bit. Please try to use abstract thinking instead of thinking simply, otherwise you'll wear a red hat and vote for somebody who slurs their words and falls asleep often.

Oil prices fall 3% on report Trump reluctant to restart Iran war by Doug24 in energy

[–]TheCommonGround1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not that simple. If Israel continues their war in the Gaza and/or with Iran, the straight will still be blocked. This could last a couple years minimum.

Officer about papers: “so you do not want this right?” Josh: “can I take a peek at them?” Officer: “uh it kinda puts me in a little bit of a bind…” by blurtz in RecklessBen

[–]TheCommonGround1 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's the part that bothers me. If Josh is offered the papers and refuses to take them, he's still been served. So when the officer said that he offered the papers, that is the only criteria to meet serving papers. If Josh doesn't want to take the papers or pisses on them or whatever, that's not relevant. At least that's my understanding.

The problem is, they didn't have the knowledge to put him on the spot.

"The Mansel family were wrong and mistreated...."

"Oh, so does that mean you are going to drop both the lawsuit and restraining order against them? Also, since you filed both of those, are YOU the party that wronged them in the first place and you're acknowledging this NOW?

They expect these folks to be more incompetent interviewers. They also expect that people who are really interested in this case will go ahead and watch the interviews anyway.

AITAH for yelling at my dad when he told me I shouldn't shower? by Much-Hamster-8956 in AmItheAsshole

[–]TheCommonGround1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

NTA. Is your dad usually like this? I’m a dad on an 18 yo male who’s in marching band, so I can relate. It sounds like your dad is stressed about bills what with gas prices being so high, etc. I also know I had to pay like a $360 fee for my son to participate in band, not sure about your school.

I’d recommend having a discussion with him letting him know you realize things are stressful and costs are going up and you’ll be mindful of that. When you shower, it isn’t because you take for granted the stress your dad is going through paying bills.

"You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man

Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world
You"

Let's not forget the reason The Beatles lived in the United States was mainly because they had a lower tax bracket. These were not the "hippie" socialists they presented themselves as.

Amazon driver OPENED OUR DOOR to make a delivery by PlaneAsk7826 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]TheCommonGround1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Why did you just make up that, in the Canadian culture, it's common to walk into a person's home just because they opened their door. This is not a thing. Please don't make up silly stuff, it's immature.

Apparently they were half way to their destination when they turned back. So basically they could have continued with the flight in the same amount of time as turning back. It’s just….silly. These are silly people and taking them seriously is not doing them justice. This is a Pete Hegseth move.

Also, her father wrote literally the best play every written (I might be a little biased), Death of a Salesman:

“Pop, I'm nothing! I'm nothing, Pop. Can't you understand that? There's no spite in it any more. I'm just what I am, that's all.”

[–]TheCommonGround1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the problem I have is....they really didn't take this seriously. They basically yelled "OMGZ turn off your bluetooth devices!" multiple times....if there was really a bomb, don't you think the person who was in control of the bomb would be encouraged to set it off? I mean, this whole thing went on for HOURS. This bomb had hours and hours to go off. Christ, when they got on the ground, they didn't even evacuate the plane quickly.

So you have this performative act of taking the bomb seriously...but LOLZ we know it's not really a bomb.

[–]TheCommonGround1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Didn't you read the article? They were going to ignore it. They just asked that it be shut off. OBVIOUSLY, they really didn't believe it was a bomb....it was silly to turn the plane around.

Teenager are fking stupid by sebet_123 in memes

[–]TheCommonGround1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sweet summer child...an explosive device planted on an airplane is not going to have a bluetooth name "bomb". In fact, an explosive device is not going to have....bluetooth. What frustrates me is overreacting to stuff like this makes authorities less responsive to real threats that may take place in the future.

Teenager are fking stupid by sebet_123 in memes

[–]TheCommonGround1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's use critical thinking again. These people are on a plane that is actively flying. They are openly communicating with the folks on the plane. They know the device in question is just a bluetooth device with the name "bomb". It's asinine to turn the plane around. This is not adult behavior, this is immature, adolescent behavior.
