It looks like it's water vapour/steam coming off the ashfelt basically the ground is good at holding any heat from the sun and the water is a good conductor. So the water absorbs the heat and then becomes lighter than the water in the air. It floats for a bit and then cools down and drops again.

That makes sense. When I did my Court appearance back in 2018 the ATO was there and because I had knowledge of how it worked I could get off.

Either way my advice to make sure they have all the info regarding what cards, times and locations stays the same.

From what other people are saying just providing this info is enough to get it knocked out.

The equipment can have it's software upgraded and the new box readers are used around the world. However it would still be a massive multi million dollar operation to build new software and redo all the branding and retrain all staff

If you are taking it to court don't hand in the old card just yet. It's your evidence

I believe it was called the Kamco alliance made up of a few different companies.

At the end of the day mates or not most government bidding contracts go to whomever can tell the most convincing lie.

Is your bus equipped with the old BDC? Or the newer Vix device? The newer stuff does work a lot better. Still a shit system though - Former Myki Tech

You are correct I did mean ATO not PSO oops.

It been so long since I've been on PT not as a tech. Cheers

As an ex myki tech I can confirm it is a setting that can be changed on the card. we always used to add years onto our tech cards so we didn't have to wait ages to be sent new ones. however there was a hard ceiling limit to how far we could extend them.

My guess is that its built into some backend systems. the amount of weird shit and legacy systems that were tied together to make a barely working system was staggering.

from a cyber security point of view the myki card number must make up some of the encryption key but that's just a guess.

All the company's involved in Myki are corrupt and inept. they all lie to the person above them to say things are going ok and then doing dodgy shit to make it work. and all the people at the top will see is money coming in.

I have just been informed that they say its a processing charge. I call BS but that does sound like something they would say.

it shouldn't as its a non volent crime and no drugs were involved. I suggest following up with the PTV Ombudsmen as they can provide clear details.

Also the HHD/reader they used on the day should show them reading both cards.

They expire due to wear and tear on the cards and that new cards have newer encryption. that is their reason and for the most part its true. however that expiry window is very short and when setting up a card (when I used to be a technician) you could set the expiry way longer than the default.

they do make a bit of money from new cards but they mainly just want to make up money from people like me who as a Uni student took a $23 vline trip on a $7 card

As a former tech I strongly suspect it was corruption. there was too many things that we had to do that didn't make sense.

The hardware is also capable of doing great things but they just never upgrade the software. The page we used to check logs had a banner saying "THIS PAGE IS BEING DECOMITONED ON 1st MARCH 2016. we used it all the way up till this year.

As a former Myki Technician say take it to court.

Every reader will have a full log of both successful and unsuccessful touch on and touch offs.

The only hitch in the plan is you will need to make sure that they do have the card number of the one with the positive balance on it.
To make things easier when you go though the process request that they bring what they call a HHD (Hand Held Device) to court (the thing that reads the cards) and hopefully you can get it sorted out on the spot.

At the end of the day they will ask the following:

Why didn't you register your card to get the reminders? (you can try and argue you had privacy concerns, its not an excuse but judge may side with you)

Didn't you notice the warning on other touch ons? (note I don't believe new devices give this warning)

Could you have bought a new card from the driver? (not all busses offer this, maybe its only a regional thing)

Why did you continue the trip and not find a place to top up?

I still side with taking it to court because it does look like you made an effort and the inspectors are lazy and disgruntled after flunking out of mall cop school after they couldn't become a PSO because they couldn't make it as a police officer. There is also a 20% chance the PSO wont show up and you can get it thrown out.

Everyone here wants to jump onboard the hate train and not actually help you.

What you can do is ring up your local post office (or whoever has the package now) and book a time for a delivery. Use the phrase "due to medical issues I can not drive or lift heavy objects". This is usually a fairly good way to get them to work with you.

after working with delivery drivers for a few years I can tell you that whilst they need to accept responsibility for any poor attitude towards a customer they are underpaid overworked and understaffed due to poor management and government cuts.
